Stalling

I have nothing to write about tonight but I’m sitting here typing this drivel because I still have about 10 minutes of exercise to do and I just don’t want to.

I am watching Star Trek Discovery. Season three. Season four just ended so I am way behind. I’ll get caught up. We cancelled our Paramount+ account last year but I had to re-up in order to watch Star Trek Picard. Now I’m taking advantage of it to get caught up on everything else, Trekkie speaking.

I also started watching Dead Like Me again. I am not sure why. It just seemed like the right thing to do. It’s been 20 years since that show premiered. Back then I was in a long stretch of total ambivalence toward television. Then one night I was awake in the wee hours of the morning, just flipping through the channels, wishing there was a baseball game or a hockey game (I forget what time of year it was) to watch even though it was probably 3am. I don’t know why I stopped on Showtime, but I did and an hour or so later I was hooked on a TV show for the first time in ages. It’s all been down hill since then.

Speaking of hockey… I could go for a Bruins game. I have to wait until tomorrow. Fortunately I won’t have to wait much longer than that for baseball. The Red Sox have a spring training game on Thursday. I’ll take that over a lock out any day.

I haven’t played guitar in 16 days. What is wrong with me?

Okay. Time to exercise. Crud.

Almost Free

I am 11 minutes away from two days off. The Bruins pummeled the best team in hockey today. It was glorious. Boston 5, Colorado 1. I want to do some more guitar playing tonight but I also want to spend some time trying to figure out which circuit breakers power the kitchen and the dining room. I also want to find out if either of those breakers also control the living room because the living room has the router and if they are on separate breakers I can have my doctors appointment tomorrow (if it’s tomorrow and not Wednesday) and Jen can work without disruption. Fingers crossed on that puppy.

Eight minutes left now. I’m ready. Come to papa, vacation days.

Still Quiet

Lunch time post. There are a few more people here than there were the last time I posted. One other member of my group is here too but we don’t sit anywhere near each other. If we yell we can talk to each other, but we’re not being rude like that. I feel a lot more Covid-safe than I did the last two times I was here, and by no means did I feel Covid-unsafe before. Whatevs.

I have vacation time booked for the next two days. There are things going on that I want to take care of, but right now I am so looking forward to what amounts to a mid-week weekend. I have a doctors appointment but I don’t know when. They sent me Zoom meeting invites for both days. They are closed today for the holiday (Presidents Day) so I have to figure it out first thing tomorrow. We also have an electrician coming for another kitchen/dining room fix quote. I am really nervous that the doctors appointment was actually moved to tomorrow (I booked it for Wednesday and no one asked me to change it) and it’s going to happen while our power is off and internet is down. That would suck. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

The Bruins are celebrating Presidents day with an afternoon match up with the overpowering Colorado Avalanche. It’s halfway through the second period and the Bruins are up 2-0. The next couple of games are on the West coast. A win today could be a nice little treat considering I won’t be able to listen to the West games.

Okay, back at it. Three hours and three minutes to go.

Bad Day for the Bruins

The Bruins are getting the shit kicked out of them against the Whalers tonight. It’s just a bad day for the Bruins all around.

Bergeron is out with a head injury.

Marchand was suspended for six games for being a friggin’ idiot against Pittsburgh the other night.

Tuukka Rask put an end to his comeback attempt and called it a career.

And now they are getting spanked like a naughty kid in a movie about some Victorian era orphanage.

Yeah, it’s a bad day for the Bruins.

I Really Am Bad Luck

It happens so often that I can’t believe I fall for it.

I put the Bruins on the TV and immediately they cough up the lead. It just happened again. I checked the score and they were up 2-0 over Pittsburgh. I do something else for a little while and, without me knowing it, Pittsburgh tied the game at 2. I bring up nesngo.nesn.com/ on the internet browser of my choice and BAM! Immediately Pittsburgh scores to take the lead.

Damn it! Why am I such a bad luck charm for the Bruins?? Why??

The Winter Classic at Fenway Park 2: The Reckoning

It was announced today that the 2023 NHL Winter Classic will be held at Fenway Park… again. Fenway Park was the home of the game in 2010 when the Bruins beat the Flyers 2-1 on a legendary (to Bruins fans at least) overtime goal by Marco Sturm. Massachusetts also hosted the Winter Classic one other time, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, but we won’t be talking about that shit of a game.

I will watch the game if I can. January 1st… we may be in Disney World, though that probably won’t happen until a couple of days later? I wonder if we’ll be on a plane. Hmmmmm. If we are visiting The Mouse, maybe I will watch the game from the hotel room (he said kiddingly).

The tweet doesn’t say who we’ll be playing, but given that the guy who owns the Red Sox and Fenway Park now owns the Pittsburgh Penguins, how much do you wanna bet we will play the Pittsburgh Penguins?

The Bruins Got Slaughtered

I wanted to watch the Bruins game today but for some reason I thought it was an afternoon start when it was a 7:00pm. By the time the game started, Jen and I were hanging out in the living room and cleaning up cat vomit. Gross.

I kept an eye on the score though. I wish I hadn’t. They lost to Dallas, 6-1. Gross.

On an unrelated note, on January 13th I wrote a post about Tuukka Rask returning to the line up, and hat tricks on consecutive days. I also left a note to myself that I had opened a new jug of distilled water for the CPAP machine. I wanted to see how long it would last. I emptied it a minute ago. I don’t have to open a new jug tonight but I will tomorrow.

So it lasted from the 13th through the 30th. 18 nights of use. Good to know.

The Bruins Win

The Bruins beat the Coyotes 2-1. Hard to believe it was that close against a team that bad. I’ll take it though.

The question now is, why am I still awake? The game is over. Go to bed.

My Apple Watch is charged. I was waiting for that but it’s done so go to bed.

I’m listening to music, but I can do that in the morning. Go to sleep.

I’ve got a little cut on the inside of my upper lip. Now that’s a good reason to still be awake, but it’s not that good a reason. Go to sleep.

Okay already. I’ll go to sleep. Sheesh, lay off, you jerk.

Good night.

Bruins Nerves

The Bruins have a 2-1 lead over Arizona, four minutes into the third period.

That’s good, right?

Sort of. I mean sure being in the lead is good and all. It’s Arizona though. They are barely an NHL team. The Bruins should be up by 10 by now.

Back on the power play. Can we pad this lead a little, guys?
