The Weekend is Close

Just under four hours left in the work week. The weekend is almost here.

I’m not sure what the plan is. I want to get an eye exam. I haven’t had a chance to try and book anything yet so it probably isn’t going to happen. Our passports are going to expire soon and we need to get new pictures done so we can send them in with the renewal application. Good thing I got my hair cut, huh?

Guitar, guitar center, trade in the strat, all that stuff. I’m Nana Sitting again on Sunday night but we can get a lot of stuff done between the time I get home tonight and the time I come back on Sunday. Granted, we could also get a lot of flaking and resting and relaxing in too.

So many options, you know?

June Song Again

I wrote last night that my hearthis.at account had run out of upload space and that I would get around to creating a second account. I don’t remember doing this, but it turns out I already made a second account. Did I time travel back from the future and do it so that it would be there when I needed it? Am I Marty McFly? Am I one of The Avengers?

No and no.

Here’s the crappy song.

Hockey Depression

The Montreal Canadiens have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. As if life weren’t difficult enough already.

They beat Vegas in overtime last night. It’s Montreal’s first trip to the finals since 1993. It’s the first Canadian team to make the finals since 2011 when the heroic, glorious Boston Bruins beat Vancouver.

For my money, anything short of a Bruins cup win feels like misery. The only way it could be worse is if the Montreal Canadiens win it. The last Bruins cup was in 2011. The last Canadiens cup was in 1993. The fact that their drought has been longer than ours is a literally a source of bliss for me. It’s the only thing that can soothe the pain of the Bruins not being the champs. Remember a couple of years ago when the Bruins lost in the finals to St Louis (gag)? As heart breaking and gut wrenching as that loss was, at least we could still say that we had won more recently than Montreal.

The other semi final series has its game seven tonight. Tampa Bay vs Long Island. I am still very much in Tampa’s corner, but if the Islanders should win it and advance to the finals I will be 100% an Islanders fan for a couple of weeks. Even though they are the bastards who eliminated my Bruins, and even though they are from (gag) New York.

As Princess Leia once said (via a hologram stored in R2-D2) to Obi-Wan Kenobi, “this is our most desperate hour.” The Montreal Canadiens must be stopped. They must be stopped!

New Song for June

I think I had a little too much caffeine this afternoon. It’s late but I’m not really tired at all. The Vegas Knights and Montreal Canadiens are going to overtime in game six. Vegas has to win. Vegas. Must. Win.

So in my non-sleepiness I mixed a song. The Record Every Month Challenge thingie will have an entry from me for June.

No Change for Me (Part 1)

Note how the link to the song is a link and not a little embedded audio player. Why is that? Well, kids, I found out the hard way that hearthis.at has an upload limit for free accounts and I’ve reached it. I’ll make a second free account and somehow link them together, but not tonight. Tonight I am not up for that challenge. Tonight we’ll just settle for a link to alonetone.

Thursday Night

I’m Nana sitting tonight. She seems okay, but she’s up and about and usually when she’s up an about around 10:00 it’s because she’s having a rough time. We’ll see.

I’ve watched two episodes of Black Summer. So far season two holds with the better episodes from season one. No clue what’s going on. Characters have names but I have no idea what they are. Zero character development, zero actual story, just segment after segment of super intensity. It’s stressful. I wish the episodes were shorter. You need a break from the tension, you know?

Tonight is game six of the Montreal vs Vegas playoff series. The Canadiens are up 3-2 in the series and up 2-1 in the game. If ever there was a time for Vegas to morph into the greatest hockey team ever, now is the time. The Canadiens cannot advance. They. Cannot. Advance. Come on, Vegas. Get your shit together.

I’ve been flipping back and forth between the hockey game and the Red Sox vs Rays game. No score in the bottom of the seventh and the Rays are threatening. I am not sure what the story was, but Nick Pivetta had a no hitter going in the bottom of the sixth and they relieved him with two outs and one on (via an error). What was the deal with that? Was he hurt? Was he on a pitch count? What the hell, bro?

Apple Pissed Me Off

How’s that for a click bait title? Good?

I have the Apple News widget on my iPhone. It just gave me a headline talking about some idiotic covid-19 conspiracy. What the fuck is that, thought me. It was a Fox News story. Why the fuck is a Fox News story showing up on a News app? What idiot at Apple let that right wing nazi propaganda bullshit company onto their news app? Thanks for insulting my intelligence, Apple. What the fuck? I am so pissed off right now I can’t even. Why not just put adam nazi jones or some bullshit like that? News? News, my ass. What the hell, Apple. You need to be better than this. This is unacceptable.

Around the Block

I drove around the block today. By “the block” I actually mean about 25% of the city, but it’s kinda a block if you squint a little.

Lots of construction downtown. New sidewalks, maybe?

It’s another gorgeous day out there. A really good day for a half day from work, a doctor’s appointment, a haircut, and an inspection sticker for the Mazda. Also a drive around the block.

Visits

The last time I was here was May 1, 2021 and I think it was the first business I went to post-vaccine.

The last time I was here was March 14, 2020 and it was one of, if not the, last business I visited before locking down completely for the pandemic.

Haircut: complete. State auto inspection: in progress.

Half Day

I still have a ton of stuff going on at work, but I also have a half day today (dr. appointment in the afternoon). I’m going to have some time to kill and I want to try and fill it with something more productive than Netflix, although the second season of Black Summer* is out and the reviews are good.

I already started the laundry. I already started the dishes. I already took out the trash. I already made the bed. I already shaved off a week’s worth of facial hair and let me tell you it feels wonderful to not be itchy anymore.

I probably won’t have time for an eye exam. I don’t think I’ll have time to wait in line for a car inspection. If I could guarantee a quick turn around I could definitely do it, but if there’s a line… nope. Maybe I can sneak in a hair cut. That would help. It has been 55 days. 7.8 weeks. I am definitely due. Maybe.

Who am I kidding… I am going to watch stupid Black Summer, aren’t I.

*I watched the first season of Black Summer without knowing what it was. Had I known it was connected to Zombie Nation I would have taken a hard pass, but fortunately the tone of the show wasn’t stupid like Z Nation. Although two of the eight episodes were among the dumbest things I’ve ever subjected myself to. I swear the last two seasons of Fear the Walking Dead are a “hold my beer” response to the episode in the school and the one with the heist. The rest of the season was pretty good though, and a couple of the episodes were great.
