New Tune

I’m sharing this one because I’m 90% sure I have written it at least once in the past. Possibly in the not so distant past. Also, because I threw it together very quickly and now that it’s done I have like 10 ideas for changes to it and if it weren’t part of a song writing challenge in the final days I might have just started over but nope, here it is, crap and all.

One other 50/90 note… I put rhythm guitars onto two songs tonight… I now have rhythm guitars on 50 songs. Two weeks left and I have enough songs with significant progress made and I am dangerously close to finishing this puppy. Now watch me blow it somehow.

Hosed

Work has been insane this week. Since Friday, really. In:Sane.

I took a minute to check on the Lake Asshole Bucket. It was maybe 15% full. I put the wet vac’s hose into the bucket and sucked all of that shit right up. Bucket:Empty. That worked much better than trying to get the blender out from under the pipe without spilling anything (which was impossible).

The dehumidifier is still cranking away. I had to empty it once. The floor is pretty much dry. Oh happy day.

Two weeks (approximately) until they come to replace the water heater. Two weeks of Lake Asshole monitoring.

Now I will have time to have dinner with the love of my life, watch What If with the love of my life and possibly with my step son (via a watch party), and then add lead guitars to the four songs that are currently ready for them. The finished 50/90 song count is currently sitting at 38. Four more are ready for leads, six are ready for vocals (car music in the morning?), and two barely exist.

Hopefully going to make a push over the next couple of days… assuming work lets me. Have I mentioned work has been insane this week? In:Sane.

To Do Tomorrow

  • Car music before work!
  • Put out the trash barrels (probably before the car music)
  • Empty the wetvac and clean up whatever the dehumidifier doesn’t get tonight
  • Empty the dehumidifier
  • Go to work
  • Meetings most of the day but still need to work on the huge division-wide nightmare of an issue (that we totally have in hand at the moment… barring any unforeseen problems)
  • Show the plumber where I think the source of Lake Asshole is
  • Make dinner with my love
  • Have dinner with my love
  • Maybe pay a quick visit to my parents’ new place (I still need to post that huge thing I wrote back on September 3rd, explaining all that went on, but posting that is not on this to do list)
  • Maybe, if time allows, track a few guitar parts or maybe mix another song. I mixed two songs tonight. I shared the one that sucked least.
  • Try to decide if entries in a bulleted list should end in a period or not. What do the grammar nazis say? I think it should be punctuated, but when I do it just feels wrong.
    • See what I mean?
  • Go to sleep and then do it all again on Wednesday

Cookie

Rush did a song on their first record called In the Mood. It was a dumb Little Rock and Roll song that doesn’t fit in stylistically with the band they morphed into a short time later but it’s fun and it became a concert staple that appeared in set lists off and on for most of their career.

The hook includes the brilliant, Geddy Lee penned (ad libbed?), line “hey baby it’s a quarter to eight, I feel I’m in the mood” (fucking epic).

On many bootlegged occasions over the decades the word baby was changed to something that sounded like “cookie.”

Now Alex has an Instagram and he posts this:

Was the line changes to cookie or Chuckie? Did they mess with the line to make it about Al’s wife?

I don’t know, but…. Fucking epic.

Oh, the Crazy

For the last few months, going to work has often seemed like a break from all the rest of the stuff going on in the world. That is kind of the opposite of normal, right? Being away from work is supposed to be the more enjoyable part of your day.

Welp, we’re officially back to normal! Oh, the crazy stress right now. My head is spinning! WHEEEEEEEEE!

Jen just made an appointment with a plumber to come and look at the source of lake asshole. They are coming for the first look tomorrow. Oh happiness! I am so looking forward to a day when I can go into the cellar without getting my feet wet. That’s going to be a good day.

So much music work to do. So little time. When am I going to finish all this stuff off? When, oh when?

Audience

Between singing in the car this morning, writing lyrics this afternoon, and playing guitar tonight, I have honestly lost track of everything I’ve done today.

It was cool though, I had an audience while I was tracking guitars. I was down cellar because I was too lazy to set up the bedroom rig that I partially cannibalized for the cellar rig and as I was playing along I noticed this big honkin’ spider hanging out at the base of the stairs, just grooving along.

It was not, as far as I could tell, from Mars.*

*If you don’t get that reference… well I don’t even know what to tell you.

Car Music Today, Car Music Tomorrow

I did some car music today. Five songs. I had eight ready to go and I think I could have managed one more, but the MacBook was running hot and the internal fan was freaking out and when I brought up what would have been the sixth song there were a ton of lyrics to sing and I figured I’d error on the side of caution.

I have 18 days left this month and a ton of stuff left to do. I don’t know how much time I’ll have today, but for this coming week? Guitars, car music vocals, mixing. All of it. It’s going to be like an avalanche of getting shit done.

Because if it isn’t I am going to end up being right on the cusp of finishing the challenge and I’ll still fail… and I really don’t want that to happen.
