There is an episode of How I Met Your Mother where Lily thinks Marshall (her husband) is cheating because she finds credit card receipts showing that he is checking into hotels every work day. Turns out the truth is that he’s checking into hotels so that he can take a shit in private. He’s too embarrassed to take care of business at the office and he can’t just go home and do it, so he goes to hotels.

I want to state publicly that the writer of that episode is a genius. Never has there been a work of fiction that reflected real life as perfectly as this. It may be the most relatable 22 minutes of television ever made. Absolute genius.

In closing, here are a couple of sleeping cat pics I took last night.

Get Well Soon

We have a cat named Robin. She was not named after English guitar hero Robin Trower*.

Robin Trower had a US tour booked for this fall and he has a 50th anniversary expanded edition of his biggest record, Bridge of Sighs, due to hit the stores tomorrow. I did not buy tickets to his show in my neck of the woods, on October 5th (which is also my sister’s birthday), but I was thinking about it. Strongly. I saw him live once in 1988 (I think) and would love to see him one more time before he packs it in.

Unfortunately, just the other day he had to cancel the tour. He has a health issue that requires surgery and has the possibility of a long recovery period. It seems I may have missed my chance to see him one more time. Crud.

Get well soon, Mr Trower. Come back and see us soon, and maybe bring a Les Paul with you. I mean you used to play Gibsons back in your Procol Harem days. I know you’ve been pretty much 100% Strat since then, but maybe it might be fun to be nostalgic for the old days, eh?

*Robin the cat was not named after Robin Trower. She was named after Robin Sparkles.

Binge Watch

This post has two meanings. One is literal, the other is a test of some changes I made.

The literal part…

Jen and I have completed our epic binge watch of all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother. The ending still sucks, even though they telegraphed it over the course of the entire series, and littered the last season with obvious hints. Oh well.

The question now is… what next? Should we binge watch another show, and if so what show should we binge watch? Part of me wants to suggest a Star Trek series, partly because they run long, partly because it’s totally different from a sit com, and partly because the last TV show I watched was an episode of Picard so it’s sort of on my brain.

What do you think? Make suggestions. Comments are open.

The test involves cross posting to Twitter. Specifically, not cross posting to Twitter. I don’t know if the elon muskhole experience is going to drive me away from Twitter or not, but I am setting myself up to go, just in case.

All Nighter

It’s 5:57am. As of two minutes ago I have officially pulled an all nighter.

I’m 50 years, 11 months, and five days old.

In the immortal words of Roger Murtaugh, I am too old for this shit.*

*Thats a reference to the Lethal Weapon movie series. Replace the word shit with stuff and it’s a reference to How I Met Your Mother

Bed Time-ish

I’d like to be going to sleep right now but I want to let my watch charge to 100% before I do. It’s at 83% right now, but it did just take a WatchOS update so that’s cool.

An unrelated aside: did you know that on the show How I Met Your Mother, nearly every time Barney spews out some ridiculous made up statistic it’s 83%? Sometimes it’s 8.3, but usually 83. Sorry, my watch battery made me think of that, and Jen and I are binging the holy hell out of that show right now.

Sorry, what was I talking about?

The Bruins lossed again tonight. I’m afraid to read a recap and find which players will be out injured next. It seems like every game costs us another player or two.

The Red Sox won at least. We are 2-3 right now, but at least we have a better record than Baltimore. That’s pretty sweet.

I’m watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. I’m not going to be able to finish it tonight. It’s quarter to 11:00 and I still have an hour to go. The question in the morning will be finish Guardians or watch the new episode of MoonKnight.

It’s going to be a tough call, man.
