User Manual

Remember two posts back when I asked if anyone had a user manual for my father’s old camera?

I found it.

Pentax K1000. Now all I need to do is find someplace that develops film. Weeeeeee!

ADDENDUM: That manual is actually a service manual. The owner manual lives here.

Trying Not to Scream

Today has been a day like a kick in the balls is a warm summer breeze. I’m trying not to scream over here.

Work was nuts. I’m having issues with an insurance company. My mother has had an eventful day at her current place. Jen had a whatwhatwhat moment that I won’t discuss. Even Harry had something at work that was groan-worthy.

It’s been one of those days all around.

It’s been one of those days and I am okay with it. I’m fine and dandy.

Why?

Because episode six, the series finale(?), of Obi-Wan Kenobi is out and Harry has come over to watch it with us. Once my work day is over, in about 11 minutes or so, we’re going to take it for a spin.

Insert the ominous sound of Darth Vader breathing here.

Fireworks

Disney+ had a live broadcast of the fireworks at Epcot tonight. Jen and I watched the whole thing. It was more of a concert video than a fireworks show, but it was fun.

I mentioned before that we are planning on going to Orlando in January. Watching this thing tonight has taken our excitement level for the trip and shot it through the roof.

Jen is a Disney nut. I really am not, but I do enjoy going to the resort. I mean, there is a Star Wars area… they made it just for me. Still, I am feeling it just as much as she is. I suppose it could be partly due to the fact that we’ve been locked down for 2.5 years and haven’t even considered a trip anywhere. The last trip we went on was in February 2020. That was Disneyworld too. We got home just a few days before the real world came to its screeching halt.

The idea of going back is pretty much taking hold of both of us. The excitement is getting silly, and we’re still almost six months away.

Film

My sister was at my parents house in Tewksbury today cleaning out one of the dressers. She sent a text to me and my brother. She said she found Dad’s old Pentax 35mm camera, do either of us want it?

HELL YES, I WANT IT!

I don’t think it works. I seem to remember it was a pain in the ass to use. I don’t care, I want it.

A film camera. I had a little point and shoot film camera back in 2000 or so. I took it to a Halloween party and one of the people I was with dropped it and broke it. I got it fixed and let my parents take it to Las Vegas with them and one of them dropped it (on top of the Hoover Dam) and broke it again. That was the end of my film camera experience.

Can you still buy rolls of film? Can you still get film developed? Will I have to learn how to do it myself? How much do those funky red lights and stuff cost?

I am willing to bet that if I take this camera home with me, it will never get used. It’s still totally worth it though. I seem to remember Dad letting me use it at Niagara Falls. I think Jen and I will have to go back there so that I can relive that memory.

Say cheese.

Monday Monday

It’s Monday and I’m back on trackish.

I slept a little late this morning and got a slow start. I got a little juice into my system along with my morning vitamins. I went through the morning routine and did a little laundry. I had everything wrapped up by 8:15 so I started my walking in place thing. I got all 30 minutes in and was feeling pretty good. I tried to help Jen find a charger for her MacBook Pro, and then I punched into work. I went through a good chunk of the weekend email and then grabbed half of a protein shake. I have a meeting at 10:00. I don’t know if I am going to be able to get any food in before then, but at least I’ll have some protein and some more liquid. I wonder if today might see a protein shake in place of breakfast. We’ll see.

Things I want to do today include going grocery shopping after work, maybe spending the first few minutes of my lunch break on the exercise bike. I have been wanting to up the exercise, and the bike is the way to do it. Is today the day I make it happen? Could be.

I wanted to play guitar this weekend and I failed. I spent a lot of time with my parents, and the rest of the time I spent hanging out with my wife. Time well spent. We finished The Offer, which surprised us both which how much we enjoyed it. Then we binged all 10 episodes of How I Met Your Father. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. I think I had exactly one laugh out loud moment through the whole 10 episodes, but I did like it. When season two happens I’ll watch it if Jen wants to watch it. I also finally started season three of The Boys. There are five episodes out right now and I am half way through episode three. Butcher as a Sup? Nooooo.

Okay. Time to get some working in. Have a good Monday. In the immortal words of U2, don’t let the bastards get you down! Huzzah!

Happy Fathers Day

Are all the dads out there having a Happy Fathers day? I hope so. I have been so focused on my mother’s situation that I haven’t been spending enough time on my father’s. Today I got to spend a couple of hours just hanging out with him. We watched a few innings of the Red Sox game together. It was lovely. I need to do more of that.

As for all of the other dads out there, I hope today is a good day. I would like to note that my father always comments about how it never rains on Mothers Day, but it always rains on Fathers day. True to form, it did rain in our neck of the woods this morning.

So have a happy Fathers Day, fathers and try to keep dry.

Good Morning

Friday morning, almost time for work.

I need to go to the weight loss clinic at lunch to get them to send a document to my insurance company. I am wondering if I will have a spare few seconds to step on one of their scales. We will have to see.

I am hoping that after work I will be able to see my mother. I haven’t been to the new location yet. I feel absolutely terrible about that. On Wednesday she wasn’t in her room. On Thursday I was praying to the porcelain god. Today is the day, damn it.

I closed my exercise ring for today with a 30 minute marching in place while watching yesterday’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode. I am feeling really good about getting the full 30 minutes finished in one shot. I feel like I am starting to push myself more. My average heart rate is getting higher with each new day, and my legs are feeling more like jelly after I finish. I want to start spending some time on the exercise bike too, but I kinda want to keep my close-the-ring-in-one-shot streak going. We’ll see how it goes.

As for Star Trek, this episode had a very small retcon of one of the movies… the worst movie… I didn’t check to see if Shatner directed this one or not, but let’s see where they take it. It was pretty good today.

Lifting Heavy Stuff

Look at me, lifting heavy stuff like a boss.

I celebrated my sixth weekaversary by weighing myself. I was down 4.4 pounds and happy about it. I then (finally) changed the cat’s litter box. It was beyond time. Patches, sorry about that buddy. Enjoy shitting in your clean box, my furry friend.

After the litter box I took a big box that had been sitting at the top of our driveway for at least five of the six weeks. It’s just a folding card table, but it weighed a little more than 25 pounds so it sat under the overhang next to our porch and waited. Now it’s in the cellar. I haven’t actually unboxed it yet, but it’s finally inside.

I had one more lifting item on my agenda but I pushed that off until lunch. I did my 30 minutes of walking in place and then it was about 8:50 and time for work. Jen did ask me to do one lifting thing for her. She asked me to move a monitor off of her desk and replace it with another one. I don’t think they were above the 25 pound threshold, but one of them might have been in the ball park.

Come lunch time I took a few minutes to make a phone call and then finished my heavy stuff agenda for the day. I moved the Vox AC15 amplifier from my cellar music nook to the storage closet (for now) and replaced it with the gigantic Fender Bassbreaker 18/30. That big sucker is probably 50 pounds or so (Google tells me its exactly 50 pounds) and it was far and away the heaviest chore of the morning. It’s also the loudest. Is there a cause and effect thing there?

No. No there isn’t.

Okay, lunch break is over. Time to get back to work. I might sneak in some loud guitar playing tonight, but there is a new episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the Stanley Cup Finals start tonight. So… maybe not. We’ll see.
