Covid Booster: The Day After: Still Alive (Mostly)

Just checking in. I’m still sort of alive. Mostly, at least. The foggy head is lessening a little, but the body aches are still holding on. My arm, where I took the shot, is still killing me. There’s a constant dull ache, but any time I forget about it and try to use it it kicks my ass.

Mostly I am just exhausted. I got a lot of sleep last night but my sleep numbers were sucky. My sleeping heart rate dip, which should average between 10-20%, and 20-30% is a kick ass, actually went the wrong way. It went up 7%. Crud, huh?

The only productive thing I’ve done is 30 minutes of exercise. That ring is closed. My move (calorie) app isn’t even close though. It’s only 57% complete. I expect that at some point tonight I am going to have to do another 30 minute walk.

Other than that I’ve just spent the day staring at the television. I watched all five episodes of Star Wars: Andor. This week’s episode is going to be awesome. When I finished that I needed something else to veg out to so I started rewatching Falcon and Winter Soldier. I just started episode four. I think I can get through the whole season today. Once that’s done… Loki? We’ll see. We have The Walking Dead tonight (only seven episodes left!) and House of the Dragon so we’ll see if I can get to either of those tonight.

Covid Booster: The Day After

I had a Covid-19 booster shot yesterday, the Omicron specific sucker, and boy do I feel like shit today. Body aches, brain fog, and holy crap is the arm I got the shot in sore. File under: Ouch.

It’s a safe bet that today is going to be spent sitting in the living room pretending to watch the TV. I came up with a list of things to do today, mostly musical stuff, and then I actually got out of bed, felt my head swim, and rewrote the list. Today I am going to watch the five episodes of Star Wars Andor while pretending I am not 55% asleep.

Patches was kind enough to let me take her picture, so I don’t have to worry about the photo a day thing. Wasn’t that nice of her? Good kitty.

Milestone Achieved

Last night, as expected, I achieved another post-weight loss surgery milestone.

I ate pasta.

Oh the glory! I only ate a tiny bit. 1.5 ounces to be exact. There was a little red sauce and about four ounces of meatballs as well. Protein, dontchaknow. No stomach issues. No nausea. No anything but happiness. Tiny amounts of pasta are back on the menu, boys!

In today’s episode of That Pedal Show, which was almost exactly the length of time I needed for my morning walkies, Dan buys a new Telecaster and gets it refretted, rewired, and has a pickup respun.

Oh, has that lit me up or what. Both of my 70’s Gibsons needs to be refretted, one needs to be rewired, and one is in line to get new pickups. I want to sell my USA Stratocaster to pay for some, if not all, of this work but I’ve been afraid to actually list the guitar anywhere. After watching today’s show… the guitar might go up for sale this weekend. We’ll have to see. There’s a distinct possibility that today’s photo-a-day submission might be for-sale pics of the Strat. I am equal parts excited about this and really scared to do it. I honestly have no clue how much I should ask for.

Speaking of this coming weekend (eight hours and 11 minutes to go!), the agenda includes hanging new curtains in the living room and getting a flu shot and the new Covid booster. I expect to be wiped out for at least some of the weekend. We’re trying to arrange things so that the worst of the vaccine push back will happen over night while we’re sleeping… or at least trying to sleep. I’ll let you know how that goes. My first three shots didn’t really affect me. The fourth did. It wasn’t terrible, but I definitely felt ill the next day. Fingers crossed.

Vaccine Booster Blues

I am sure that only getting about 4.5 hours of sleep last night has really exacerbated this whole thing, but I feel sick and feverish and not terribly good. Granted, if I hadn’t already been off today I likely would have made it through the work day without calling in, but I would not have been terribly useful.

The handyman we hired to do the 10,000 jobs we still have planned has been in the cellar all afternoon. We keep hearing loud metallic crashes as he takes down chunks of the drop ceiling grid. We’ve also been hearing lots of banging and crashing as he rips down ugly paneling. I can’t wait to see his progress after he leaves tonight. It’s going to be effin’ glorious.

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

Captain America: The First Avenger isn’t even close to as good as the two Cap’n flicks that followed it. Those two might be my favorite over all (excepting the mega one-two punch of Infinity War and Endgame, of course) but I still really like it. I like the steampunky, low-tech vibe of it.

Next is Captain Marvel. The rest of my family thinks this one is pretty blah, but I like it. I think that might be nostalgia for the 90’s or something. I just dig it. Of course it could also be because I’m 100% a cat guy. Maybe. Meow, brah.

Boost

I almost missed this, but the CDC (I think it was the CDC at least) came up with new guidelines covering a second booster shot. If your first booster was more than four months ago, and you are over 50 years old, go get yourself a second booster.

Hey… I am over 50, and my booster was a few days shy of six months ago. I qualify.

3:00pm at a CVS in Salem. Booster #2. Bring it.

Was it the Booster Shot?

I don’t feel sick. At no time since getting the booster shot on Thursday evening at 8:00pm have I felt sick. I was a little alergyish on Friday morning, as I sometimes am when I first wake up, but I never felt sick.

Having said that, is the booster shot I got on Thursday the reason I am so wiped out today? I got the shot Thursday night, they say you might start feeling something after 12 hours. After 14 hours I was outside mowing the lawn, and I did that off and on for a few hours. As out of shape and grossly overweight as I am, mowing the lawn requires me to work my ass off. I did in fact work my ass off. Big time. Last night I got a good nights sleep, better than I usually get, and today when I got up and got my shit together I had to go out to run an errand at an actual store. Covid safety was not pleased with that, but I had a mask and I social distanced the shit out of the joint. Then when I got home I jumped right into my planned project for the morning: Cleaning the holy hell out of the shower. It took forever, and it also took a lot of my very fat and grotesquely out of shape self getting up and down off the floor. Much like the lawn yesterday, today’s task kicked my ass.

I’ve been a mess ever since. My legs are dead weight, my back and shoulders are killing me. I can barely move, and I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open.

My question then: Am I still feeling the effects of the shot? If fatigue is a side effect, is that where all of this is coming from? I’m guessing not, but who knows.

My second question: If I am still feeling the effects of the shot, does it change my opinion on whether or not you should get the shot? Fuck no, it does not. Get the damned shot and stop being a science denying idiot. The shot works. Get it. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not put the health of your friends and neighbors in jeopardy. Get the mother fucking shot. End rant. Or as HTML would say if rant was an actual tag, </rant>.

Booster

I am not yet quite qualified to get a Covid-19 vaccine booster shot. I have to wait a couple of weeks, I think.

I really want it. I really want it.

I want my band to get back together. The whole writing/recording demoes thing is starting to get old. I need to play loud with three friends who are playing along at a similarly loud volume.

I need a shave. I need to play live music. I need a booster shot. I need to delete Facebook. I just decided a few minutes ago that I am going to experiment with a full week away from the bookfayce. I am going to delete it from my iPhone and my iPad and close the tabs on my computers that I keep open. Hold on, give me a second… Okay, it’s off my phone and my iPad and it’s no longer open on this computer. Let’s give it seven days and see how disconnected and awful I feel. Conversely, I could say to give it seven days and see how less depressing life seems. Seven days without nazis. Well… I’m not deleting Twitter yet, so there are still nazis to piss me off.

When did this booster shot post turn into an anti-facebook post? I don’t know, but I still want the booster so… there’s that.

Okay, back to work.

Pro-Evil Demonstration

Jen and I went for a drive. No destination, just a drive. We went north on 93 to exit four then got off the highway and took route 28 home.

We passed a hospital. Outside of the hospital was a group of people with signs reading no forced vax.

I shit you not. They were outside of a fucking hospital holding a fucking anti-vaccine demonstration. They are literally pro murder. They are literally pro evil. I wouldn’t have been upset if the hospital staff took a fire hose to the lot of them.

I Need to Keep My Mouth Shut

Five minutes after I published the last post, the one saying I’m 12 hours away from the end of my Covid-19 mini quarantine adventure, I found out there was a second potential exposure last Friday.

It doesn’t change anything. I wasn’t involved, but members of my family were and it was the day we were moving my parents so however minimal the contact was, and however unlikely the source actually had Covid-19 at that point, it’s still shitty.

Again, it doesn’t change anything. It didn’t effect me. It’s just the universe kicking me when I am down, right? Stupid universe.

So I am just going to shut my mouth and watch a super hero TV show and exercise for 12 minutes to close my 30 minute activity ring and then go to bed and not think about karma or any crap like that and just shut my freakin’ mouth.

Blah.

12 Hours

Hang on to your butts, folks. The least optimistic human in the world is about to get all optimistic on your ass.

Approximately 12 hours from now my Covid-19 mini quarantine is going to be over.

Approximately 12 hours from now I am going to come storming into the house, run right to my wife’s office, scoop her up into my arms and give her a richter 10 sized smooch.

Approximately 12 hours from now I am going to still be working in my step son’s room because I won’t have time to rearrange everything before work starts, but at some point after work ends I’ll move everything back and life will go back to normal.

Can I get a hells yes?

I’m not even considering the possibility of things going wrong in the morning because I don’t have Covid-19 and there is no way I am failing and testing positive. Nope. No way in hell.

This is me being overly cautions, and also putting that kick ass Pfizer vaccine to work for me. Covid free, babie. You’ll see.
