Intermittent Fasting Update

I have about an hour and a half left in my 14th consecutive intermittent fast. Two weeks seems like a huge deal for some reason. I figured I’d try it for a week and then I lost a bunch of weight on the first week. Cool! The second week’s weight loss would be better described as tiny, but there was weight loss. Every bit helps.

Two weeks. Jen tried it for a couple of days and stopped. She didn’t feel good. I hadn’t had that problem until yesterday. By hour 14 or 15 yesterday I wasn’t feeling all that great. By 15.5 I was actually feeling a little foggy. I was really hungry and it was messing with my head. So far today I don’t feel bad at all. I’m not sure what happened yesterday, but if that becomes a regular thing I’m going to stop all together. I didn’t like the way I felt yesterday.

We’re also keeping up with the daily exercise. It’s just walking in place, but it definitely helps. When I started this two weeks ago I would go for five minutes and then have to sit down. Today I did 12 minutes before it hurt my back too much to go on. That was great, but let’s see how I feel when I have to do another round during lunch. I might be down to five minutes (or less) again. We’ll see.

Mistake?

On my first two nights of intermittent fasting I had a snack just before the eating window closed at 9:00pm. Today I didn’t. In fact, the last food I ate tonight was dinner at around 6:00pm… which means my 16 hour fast is going to end up more like 19 hours.

Did I make a mistake here? We will see.

Two Fast, Too Furious

The title of the post is just a pun. No one is furious. Unless you count being furious at the dictator cheeto for being recorded saying that Covid was a killer all the way back in February. That’s not what you get furious about. What you get furious about is that 50% of the idiots who vote still think he’s doing a great job, the fucking dogs.

Anyway.

51 minutes ago I finished my second intermittent fast. Two days in a row of no eating between 9:00pm and 1:00pm the next day. Something tells me that I’m going to get sick of this really quick, but for today… Two fast, too furious. Or something like that.

I’ve started having a little problem with my Apple Watch. Yesterday it froze on me. It went to sleep and wouldn’t wake up. I rebooted and everything was fine… or so I thought. About an hour later I saw a no-connection error icon. What? I checked my iPhone and sure enough the phone and the watch were not connected via bluetooth. I re-connected them and it was fine for a while but eventually it disconnected again.

I went to Wise Master Google and it told me to just toggle the bluetooth function on my iphone. That seems to have worked so far, at least for a couple of hours, but I have been having a little bit of an issue connecting to Siri. Its only working when my phone and I are in the same room. Weird.

My step son just wrapped up his second day of school. He did it all from his room. He’s in the living room doing music theory homework on the electric piano right now. As of today the full remote schooling is still just for this week. For now though, it’s such a relief to know he’s not going into the coronaviral plague pit otherwise known as the high school. I really don’t want him to go back, at least not without a vaccine, and not a rushed-poison-election-year-gimmick vaccine. I’m so tired of this.

So how are you all doing?

One Fast Down

Raise your hand if you recently completed your first 16 hour fast and have then rewarded yourself with a nice lunch and some Pringles. Yeah, I dig that isn’t really within the spirit of the thing, but one piece at a time, am I right? I’ve also done a couple of walking-in-place sessions. I’d like to do it for 30 minutes a day (which will close the exercise ring on my Apple Watch), but being as criminally out of shape as I am, I don’t see that happening. I might be able to pull off 15 minutes a day for now. We’ll see.

So the Walking Dead announced today that it is ending after the next season. There will be a couple of spin offs following so it will effectively go on in another form. One show will center on Daryl and Carol. Another will be anthology style and could fill in back story for characters we already know. Interesting, but if it were up to me I’d just follow Judith. Also, will the comic’s end come into play? They’d have to bring a certain local sheriff back for that.

Bob Woodward, of Woodward and Bernstein and Watergate fame, has a new book coming out next week. It’s called Rage and it includes direct interviews with the fascist Cheeto in chief himself. Those interviews include one from February where the American Nazi Impeached prick tells Woodward that COVID-19 is a killer and five times worse than the flu. There’s another from March where he admits to downplaying the severity of the situation. Fuck him. Fuck him right in his pasty orange goo ass.

Car Music

I had six songs ready for vocals. This morning, while sitting in the movie theater parking lot, I cranked out four of them… poorly… as usual.

It was foggy out so it was a little harder to see people around me. I saw a couple of dog walkers and a jogger, but that was it. There was a tractor trailer parked near my usual spot so I went someplace new on the other side of the lot. A mall security car did a slowish drive by. I don’t think he was checking on me, I think he was just slow.

On an unrelated note, I have not had breakfast. The last food I ate was just before 9:00pm. I won’t eat anything until lunch at 1:00pm. I am officially trying this 16:8 fasting shit on for size. Also, I am really hungry. Four hours to go!

Not Today, Maybe Tomorrow

I fully intended to get up early today and do car vocals. I actually did get up early but… As I mentioned last night… that last song I worked on… the lyrics were so bad. It just took the umph out of the situation, you know? I need to rewrite.

So… fasting. What’s up with that? Give yourself an eight hour window each day where you can eat to your heart’s (stomach’s?) content, then the other 16 hours you don’t eat. In my 56 seconds worth of Google “research” it looks like most people set their eating window at 1pm-9pm. Outside of breakfast, that works okay for me. I want to cut down on between meal sowing. Something like this could gimmick me into cutting back some. Also, my 56 seconds showed me that zero calorie drinks (water, diet soda) are allowed during the fasting times.

I found an app I wanted to try to use to help. I thought you’d plug in times and it would tell you when to eat. It doesn’t. You turn it on when you’re fasting starts (9pm) and it tells you when it’s over. Okay… I guess I’ll start this fad tonight at 9pm. consider today’s breakfast my breakie swan song. What the hell, it’s quarantine. Let’s jump on this (a/any) stupid bus.

After my horrid performance trying to predict the winners of the second round of the NHL playoffs, I went into the third round with a tiny bit of optimism. Then on Sunday night the West series started and my pick lost game one. That’s okay, I guess. It’s just putting my pick into a statistical hole that is too big for the majority of teams to crawl out of but that’s okay, right? Ugh. I had this bad feeling that when the East series started up last night there would be another crushing loss. I checked the score just before bed. Would Tampa crush my heart again? Nope. They were up 7-2. I checked the final score today. They won 8-2. I feel a tiny bit better now.

Television. Season two of The Boys is out. I forgot that Amazon released shows weekly. Crap. At least they put out three on the first day. They are good so far, but now I have to wait for Friday for episode four. On top of that, Jen and I started watching Cobra Kai. We plowed through the first season. It is so much better than I thought it would be. I expected it to be goofy and silly and a bit of a farce. It was, sort of. Not a lot though. It was just good. Yeah we saw the series finale coming miles away, but it didn’t lessen the effect. I’m looking forward to season two, and season three is supposed to be on the way. I’m paused on The Watchmen for the moment, but I’ll get back to it. Same with Breaking Bad. Eventually I’ll get to Lovecraft Country too. For now though… I’m up to season four episode 15 of Agents of Shield. The rewatch continues.

For now though. Let’s have a good work day on this, the first work day after Labor Day. The first work day after the symbolic last day of Summer. Today is probably in my top three least favorite days of the year.

Ugh.
