Clean Bill of Health

We are home. Patches is out of the cat carrier. She is hiding somewhere and she wants nothing to do with me for a while. She did let us pet her a little before she ran off, so there’s no hard feelings toward the gestapo fat ass who jailed her for almost two hours.

Clean bill of health. She’s fine. Nothing wrong apart from being old. She’s around 14 years old, we think, so it’s natural that she’d be slowing down. No joint issues, no vision issues, no obvious pain. She’s all good.

Good job, my brave little kitty. Sorry about the whole locking you in a cage thing. Meow.

Day Off

It’s 8:53am. Time to punch into work, so I think I’ll go over to Netflix and pop on a show.

HA!

I’m off today!

Some music, some TV, some cleaning, some stressing over Bellana flying to The Netherlands, some cat stress due to needing to take her to the vet.

I have a full day ahead, he said sarcastically. I think I’ll go get some breakfast.

Note: While I am being all gloaty and stuff today. Rest assured I’ll be paying for it with stress tomorrow. What goes around comes around and all that.

Lunch Time Brain Dead

I feel like I should be posting something as my Tuesday lunch break comes to an end. I can’t come up with anything though. There are a few little things. Today hasn’t been the painful day I was fearing it would be. There have been a couple of annoying things at work, but nothing we can’t handle. Bellana left us yesterday and won’t be back until Summer. We still have Harry around for a few days, but we’re driving him back to school on Sunday and then we’re kidless for a couple of months.

I have avoided using retail therapy to cheer myself up, but junk food is another story. We had ice cream last night. I’ve had a lot of chocolate today. I need to stop this crap and start being more careful. The first weight loss surgery appointment is next week, but it’s only to drop off paperwork. The real first appointment is next month. Sigh.

I am off work tomorrow. That’s nice. I took the day off just in case Bellana ended up needing a ride to the airport. She doesn’t, so I am free. Patches has a vet appointment and I still have to get two Christmas presents for two of my nephews over to my sister’s house. I am trying to stay as Covid safe as humanly possible until Harry is back at school. I think the vet appointment is a curbside thing but I am not sure. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow, huh?

Okay. I guess I came up with something to talk about after all. Time to get back to work. That bug ain’t gonna fix itself.

She’s Leaving

Bellana is packing up the car. She’s about to leave. We won’t see her again until July.

I stole a pic of her Minecraft water bottle to remember her by.

She left. Her roommate picked her up and they just drove off. She is going to have an amazing experience. I’m going to miss her like mad, but it will worth it when she has the best time ever.

Europe

Today is going to be one of those confusing empty nester kind of days that I do so love to write about.

Ugh.

Bellana is going to Europe for the next semester. She’s in a study abroad program. It’s going to be an epic experience for her even though it will be lessened quite a bit by our ol’ pal Covid. I am very excited for her, obviously. As a former career college student I must say that I am a tiny bit jealous. Mostly though I am just going to miss her. School in Vermont seems far away, but a 3-4 hour drive is nothing compared to a flight across the Atlantic Ocean. If we need to get to her while she’s in Vermont we can do it. In Europe? Eh, not so much.

Her flight isn’t for a couple of days, but she is going on this adventure with one of her roommates and she is going to spend tonight and tomorrow at his place as they finalize all the last minute details. She’s leaving this afternoon. This weekend was actually a Dad weekend but she came and stayed at our house yesterday as a little bonus. I am super thankful that we got an extra day.

So it’s back to being very happy and excited and proud and also sad all at the same time. It’s like Ron Weasley said, (paraphrasing) one person can’t feel all of that at once, they’ll explode.

Ka’Boom, babie

Tomorrow’s To-Do List

Tomorrow’s to-do list is pretty simple.

  • Car music. The first of 2022
  • Help Jen make breakfast
  • Help Bellana with any pre-Europe tasks that she may need help with.
  • Laundry, I think. I ripped a pair of jeans on Friday. I’m down to two. I had to order more. I ordered some new shirts too. Hmm, does rush.com’s store have anything in my size?
  • Jen and Bellana are planning on cooking dinner together. Help them if they need help.
  • Play the guitar.

That’s a pretty attainable set of goals for a Sunday, right?

Like a Great Ball of Anti-Fire

Jen came up with a project today, and like all times when Jen comes up with a project she kicked it’s ass back to the stone age like the Boss Queen that she is.

She decided her office and the living room had too many power strips and extension chords. They don’t any more. She rearranged all of the wiring everywhere and when she was done we have the same number of things plugged in but with one power strip and two big extension chords left over. It was pretty amazing to watch. She’s pretty amazing in general, but this was really cool.

You should be in awe of my wife, just like I am.

Changing the subject, did the Flickr iOS app go screwy for anyone else today? The auto upload stopped working. I think it was because I took a slow mo video this morning. The same video file made YouTube act weird too. I cleared out my phone’s photo album (everything is backed up), logged out of Flickr, took a new picture, logged back in, and everything was okay again. Weird.

One Crazy Friday

It’s 3:59pm and I am more or less free to break for lunch for the first time. What a day!

The kids are back to their dad’s for the weekend. It’s sad. Bellana will be coming over for some of the weekend so that’s good, but she’s off to study abroad next week so that’s sad but it’s also happy. This empty nest stuff just messes with my head in the worst ways.

I did a little shoveling this morning. Bellana did more. She was able to make it to her appointment and everything went safe and well. I expected that she and Harry would have to do some shoveling so they could get out to head to dad’s but wouldn’t you know it, some guy was going door to door asking to shovel driveways. If he wants to do it, then go for it. I had enough cash on hand to pay him, so off he went. He didn’t do all that great a job, but every snow flake he moved is one that I don’t have to move so it’s a win for me regardless. Also, who still carries cash? What’s the matter with you, Robert? Get with the 21st century, would ya?

91 minutes until the weekend. I can make it, I know I can. Here’s hoping I get to play a lot of guitar over the next couple of days. Every time it snows I feel like I should play to balance out the snow hate with some music love. Just keep me right in the middle, like lukewarm water*.

*If you haven’t seen This is Spinal Tap then we really can’t be friends. I mean, we can still relate on some level, but we really can’t be besties or anything like that.

Snow

Snow… shit; I’m still only in snow.*

We got a few inches last night and we’re supposed to get a few more today. I saw a news report that said Norwood had six inches before 6:00am, but that’s about 45 miles from here. That’s practically a different ecosystem.

I haven’t even put my coat on and my back is already killing me. I just took some Tylenol. Somehow I doubt it will save me. Bellana has an appointment this morning, and at some point later today both kids will go back to dad’s for the weekend. I am not going to be able to shovel everything before work, but maybe I can give them a head start.

Oh and yes, by writing this I am stalling like a boss. You readers are smart cookies. You all saw right through my little ruse.

I Don’t appreciate your ruse ma’am

*Saigon… shit; I’m still only in Saigon.

You knew where that one came from too. Ya’ll are smart cookies, just like I said.

Stay Up

Jen has to stay up a little late. I’m trying to stay up with her but I can’t do it. It makes me sad.

I’m also starting a new mask and filter in Mr CPAP machine so once I Konk out I’ll maybe stay out for hours.

Look at me, letting everyone down again.
