Doctor Robin

Robin (Hipsta-Kitty) is trying to watch Doctor Who with me. I’m on the last serial in season nine. The next thing on the series list is the 10th anniversary celebration where they brought back the first two actors who played The Doctor. Fitting as we’re getting the 60th anniversary episode in a couple of months, and the last episode I watched from the current series had a bunch of past Doctor actors come back as well. It’s like a small world or something.

One More to Go

My epic binge watch of the new Doctor Who show ends tonight. One episode to go and then I’ll be caught up until new episodes air in November.

I still have 7355427846428 episodes of the original series left though.

Less Than Nine Hours to Go

It’s just after 8:30am on the Friday before Labor Day weekend and I haven’t punched in to work yet. I had a few things to do first. I went with Harry to the garage to drop off his rental car and pick up his car. It’s all set and it looks as good as new. He just left to go back to Burlington. He’s going to miss his first class this morning, but that’s about the only downside to this visit. All is well again.

I’m less than nine hours away from a three day weekend. I just finished season 11 of the new Doctor Who. I have 20 episodes over two seasons left to go and then I’ll be all caught up. I’m on episode 17 of season seven of the original show. Eight episodes left in this season and something like 2346123472572 episodes left in the full series. I don’t expect to finish either series this weekend, but I can pretty much guarantee I’ll be done with the new show in a week or so which means I will be 100% caught up before the next episode airs in November.

What about the music project? I have 27 songs finished and 39 total in progress. I have four more songs ready to mix and I hope to crank them all out tonight. I have 30 days left, including today, and a ton of work still to go, but I think I am more or less on pace to finish on time. I’ll have a few days at Disney World where it will be tough to make progress, but I think I will be okay. I should note that even though I took over two weeks off in August, I still managed to finish an RPM Challenge Rules album in a month as I started and finished 12 songs within the calendar month. I started and finished 10 in July too. In order to hit 50 songs over all I will need to start and finish 11 songs in September. Three album in a months in a row isn’t a bad place to be. I think once this project is finished I will try to get back into the last re-recording project which has been left hanging for a little more than a year now.

I mentioned in the last post that my stomach has been a little less than 100% this morning. I had some trouble with water early on and had to deal with a minor bout of The Foamies after taking my vitamins. I only got eight ounces of water in during my exercise, but afterwards I was okay for breakfast and I am feeling much better now. I’ve managed another eight ounces since I came home from Harry’s auto shop. I think we’re back on track today. I might have a hamburger on the grill for lunch today. We’ll see how it goes.

Okay, it’s 8:50am now and I have to be punched into work by 9:00. I think I’ll hit publish on this masterpiece of an update and get my work day started. Lots to do today, lots to do. Eight hours and 40 minutes to go until the long weekend.

You can do it, Robbie! You can do it!

Random Doctor Who Occurrence or Odd Coincidence

Funny things happen when you binge watch two different versions of the same television show. Well… maybe not, but when you’re a weird ass nerd like I am maybe uninteresting things seem like interestingly funny-ish things. I don’t know.

I think I* wrote about this a couple of weeks ago, but while binging both the original Doctor Who and the current Doctor Who series, I had this moment when I hit points in each show where they changed Doctors. In the old show, I started season four where Hartnell turns into Troughton and in the new show I hit season eight where Smith becomes Capaldi.

Strangely, even though the two shows have vastly different episodes counts per season, it literally just happened again. Yesterday I hit season seven of the old show where Troughton became Pertwee, and a few minutes ago the new show hit season 11 where Capaldi becomes Whittaker. That’s a funny coincidence, isn’t it? Weird, right?

There’s an even weirder coincidence in the current plots of both shows. Six full seasons through the original show and for the first time The Doctor doesn’t have a TARDIS. The story line is that he is being punished for something and it was taken away from him. He’s going to get it back eventually, but I think he’s going to be TARDIS-free for a couple of years. I didn’t see that coming. The weird plot coincidence is that the last shot in season 10 of the new show is The Doctor getting thrown out of the TARDIS just before it blows up (does it actually blow up? I don’t know yet) which means that when we start season 11 The Doctor is also TARDIS-free. Again, I didn’t see that coming.

I mean… how weird is all of that? I know it’s not actually weird or funny or anything, and I am just a total nerd who sees things that aren’t really there. It’s nothing but I just figured I’d write it down so that 10 years from now I’ll read this post and think, “oh yeah, I ‘member that” and then move on with the rest of my life.

*The right shift key on my MacBook Pro keyboard is acting funny again. It took me three tries to type “I” without getting “i” instead. It seems to be working fine now though. Aren’t you thrilled?

Productive Morning

Talk about a case of the Mondays gone wrong, right?

I got up early, did my exercise, watched a Doctor Who (priorities, yeah?), ate breakfast, wrote a blog post, showered, went to the grocery store and got a few things that we forgot to put on the shopping list yesterday, took a photo for today’s photo a day challenge entry…

355/365
355/365

…Came home and put away the groceries, went down cellar and put rhythm guitars onto two songs that I started fiddling out last night, put lead guitars onto one song from last month, took a couple of obligatory I-played-guitar-today photos, and punched into work with about 10 minutes to spare.

Here’s hoping the work day is that productive too. Let’s keep the motivation rolling! Happy Monday, gentle readers!

Sunday Stuff

Hey, it’s Sunday. What’s going on today?

My plans for today included going out in the morning and taking some pictures, playing guitar and working on the 50/90 challenge, going grocery shopping, and finishing two seasons of Doctor Who.

How am I doing?

Welp, I didn’t take the camera out today. I could have. I was up early and the weather was great. I just couldn’t get myself moving to do it. I just stayed home. Sorry.

In my defense though, while staying home I played a TON of guitar. I worked on seven songs, as I posted earlier, and recorded a mountain of really shitty guitar tracks. I have been ignoring 50/90 over the last three weeks, and probably screwed myself out of completing the challenge again, but we’re still trucking along. I have also mixed two songs today. Maybe starting tomorrow I’ll get back to the daily update posts to try and guilt myself into making more progress. Who knows.

As for the TV stuff, I finished season five of the old Doctor Who this morning while faux jogging (pronounced yogging), and then after I came home from grocery shopping I finished season nine of the new Doctor Who series. Both TV goals for today, complete! Now I have one more season to go on the second doctor in the old show, and one more season to go on the twelfth doctor on the new show. I am ready for regenerations on both shows, even though I am enjoying both doctors. It’s weird. As soon as I get a new doctor, I want another new doctor. I guess I am just an asshole.

I’m writing this at around 3:30pm. What am I going to achieve with the rest of the day? Probably nothing. Harry is still here. He’s going to his father’s house tonight, for a while at least. Jen and I will have dinner together. Other than that, there’s a new That Pedal Show that I haven’t seen yet. Maybe I’ll watch that now.

Random Thursday Thoughts

Just jotting down some smallish, random thoughts on a Thursday afternoon.

My stomach is being a jerk today. Gas. Bad gas. Lots of bad gas. My stomach is a bit upset. A little bit of pain. Nothing bad, just gassy. Super gassy. Pardon the T.M.I. of it all. I just felt the need to share.

In the interest of daily creative behavior like the photo a day challenge and my current 1400+ day posting streak on this little bloggie, I was wondering if I should post a daily haiku. What do you think?

One haiku each day
You know, to keep the brain loose
Could be worth a shot

I have watched a lot of Doctor Who today. Like, an alarming amount of Doctor Who. A frightening amount of Doctor Who. Both the original series and the new series. So much Doctor Who. I may have a Who problem.

We brought Harry’s car to the shop today. Here’s hoping they get the work finished before he has to go back to work next week. I may have to drive him back to Burlington after I finish work one night, and then turn around and drive home right away. That could be a long night. I will do it with a smile on my face, but… yeah, that would be a long night.

The cats have been super affectionate today. I am not sure why. It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but it is definitely a welcome development.

Cybermen

Doctor Who, the original series, season four episode two, the first appearance of the Cybermen…

Sweet Christmas, that is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! Hysterical! What a stroke of costuming genius!

So Much Doctor

I flaked out in a huge way today. Apart from going grocery shopping and helping a tiny bit with cooking dinner, I didn’t do anything productive today. Well, I did add a few new song ideas to the fifty songs in ninety days challenge pipeline, but outside of that it was just a marathon of Doctor Who.

I watched a couple of episodes of season seven of the current series, and a shite tonne of episodes of season three of the original series. I haven’t gotten to the point where either of my current season doctors change actors, but I am getting there.

Tomorrow will hopefully be a little more musical, and I also kinda need a haircut before our wedding weekend next week. Maybe I’ll take care of that. We’ll see.

For now though, first doctor, season three, episode 40: The Savages Part 3. Let’s see what hi-jinx the first Doctor gets up to in this one.

Sleepy Wednesday Night

Today has been a long day. I am tired. I had a little problem eating dinner tonight but after a little more than an hour break after coughing up a small ocean of foamie saliva, I was able to eat the last of my protein goal. I have hit all of my health goals today so it’s good in that case. Now I just need to get some sleep.

I haven’t done any music challenge work in two days. Tomorrow I’ll get back into it, I promise. There’s so much left to do. I think I can say I am behind the pace of my three previous 50/90 successes. I’ll catch up soon enough.

The long range forecast is calling for good weather this weekend. Maybe some post-sunrise golden hour photography? I keep thinking about going into the city and walking around the Back Bay. It might be odd doing it that early in the morning, but the plus side is I should be able to get in and out of town easy enough, and I might even get some street parking, and I won’t need to worry about crowds looking at me funny. Yeah, maybe a 6:00am photo walk up and down Boylston and Newbury streets? That could be fun. I could do that on Saturday morning, then maybe Kenmore Square or the theater district on Sunday? Who knows.

For tonight though, I am trying to finish a Doctor Who season three serial from 1965. I am starting to get close to the end of the run for the first Doctor. The NuWho binge watch started season seven earlier tonight. I am starting to get near the end of the run for the 11th Doctor. I am ready for both of them to change. Tomorrow morning while I exercise before work though, it will be the musical episode of Star Trek: Brave New Worlds with songs written by Kay Hanley and Tom Polce of Letter to Cleo. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
