AppleTV+ Was Messing With Me

There are so many good Science Fiction shows on AppleTV+. It’s a little crazy. Severance, For All Mankind, Silo, Foundation, Invasion. They are all killer shows. The latest is Constellation, which is weirding me out like mad. There will be eight episodes in this first season. Episode Seven was released today.

So there I was, trying to watch the new episode while sitting up in bed. Suddenly, without warning or provocation, the video started lagging. It went from, huh? to bad to worse quickly. I closed the app and opened it again. When it launched the episode it crashed. I tried again. It wouldn’t launch the episode at all.

I did what The IT Crowd always said to do, I turned my computer off and on again. Reboot city, population me. Did it work? Nope. When the episode tried to launch, the AppleTV+ app crashed. Over and over again.

Shit.

I tried to outsmart it. I know, thought me, I’ll watch something else on another app for a while. That will make AppleTV+ jealous so that it will work for me the next time I try it.

Success. Five minutes or so of Penny Dreadful season two episode five was all it took to guilt AppleTV+ into working again. I was able to finish the new episode of Constellation.

Don’t be a jerk, AppleTV+. I needs me my Sci Fi.

November’s End

I can’t believe it’s here, but we’re just over three hours away from December. Another year, another winter, another season of me wishing it were summer again. Ugh. It was cold enough in the cellar today during the work day that I turned on the little space heater for the first time. Again… ugh.

My Star Trek Deep Space 9 rewatch has reached the first mirror universe episode. The first one is a classic. All of the 10000 that followed, including the ones in Discovery demonstrate the law of diminishing returns. They just get dumber and more boring as they go. Again, again… ugh.

Side note, I am watching DS9 on the Paramount app on my AppleTV. It’s an ad-supported plan. It’s been so long since I’ve watched commercial television that I forgot the wonder of the mute button. Thankfully the AppleTV remote has one. Every time a commercial starts, I hit mute and… sigh of relief.

Change of subject, the Bruins have lost three straight games. Tonight they look to end the losing streak in a match up with the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks are pitiful this season. This is just what we need. We are up 2-0 after two periods. Again, just what we needed.

I have had two crappy nights sleep in a row. Here’s hoping that a good DS9 episode and a Bruins win will be followed by a rare good nights sleep. Fingers crossed.

NESN on AppleTV

Why didn’t anyone tell me that NESN has an AppleTV app?

I just installed it and now I am watching spring training Red Sox baseball on my AppleTV! Will regular season games be blacked out by MLB? Will regular season Bruins games be blacked out? I have the account I’m using for the app tied to our Verizon cable account and NESN is in that package, so I don’t think so.

The next B’s game is Thursday. Fingers crossed until then.

Baseball

The Red Sox are down 1-0 in the second. The Blue Jays are spanking the Orioles, the Yankees are scoreless, and the Mariners are losing.

Come on, Red Sox. Let’s get it together.

I asked my father if he has any clue what happens if we end in a four way tie. He hasn’t a clue either. I doubt anyone does.

We had a FaceTime call with Harry and we are hoping to have another with Bellana. Jen and I have both closed our exercise rings, which is awesome. We’ve got two episodes of The Walking Dead tonight (one from the main show and one from World Beyond), Jen and I are caught up on Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. I’m up to date on all the shows I’m watching on my own.

I haven’t played guitar at all this weekend. I need to, soon. I did get a flu shot yesterday. I’m qualified for a Covid-19 booster starting Thursday, so the flu shot was kinda like practice*.

The Red Sox are still down 1-0 after 2.5 innings. Not worried at all**.

And that’s where we are right now.

* No it wasn’t.

** Yes I am. I’m totally worried. I’ve been a Sox fan since the 70’s. The multiple championships since 2004 haven’t cured me of all of the heartbreak.
