Trashy

At least it’s not just us.

I mentioned yesterday how the morning trash pickup didn’t happen at the usual time. They usually get here between 7:30-8:00am, but yesterday they didn’t arrive until after 2:00pm. Last week they didn’t show up until Thursday. Two whole days late.

What’s going on? Do they not like my street? Did a resident of my neighborhood say something mean about one of their mothers?

Nope. It’s not just us. The Lawrence Eagle Tribune posted this story:

Perry says city on verge of breaking Methuen JRM trash contract

So that’s not good at all, but at least now I have a clue what’s going on. I really don’t know any of the details behind this mayor vs trash feud, but I am aware of it now and that is good.

Kinda Bummed Out

I wasn’t going to talk about this until it happened but now it’s not happening so I guess I’m in the clear.

Over the last few months we had been saving money to get our cellar re-finished. We need new floor tiles, new wall board, new dropped ceiling frame and tiles, new ceiling lights, and some electrical upgrades. There was also hopes of walling off the laundry nook and adding a new closet.

We had a dollar figure in mind and we started talking to a contractor about an estimate. The guy was super psyched and his attitude was a little infectious. I was getting a good feeling about the whole thing.

He sent his estimate tonight. It was our dollar figure times three. That hissing sound you hear is the air escaping my balloon.

Shit.

40 Hours and Counting

I took the trash out to the street this morning. It hasn’t been picked up yet. Last week I took it to the street on Tuesday morning and it didn’t get picked up until Thursday. I’m curious to find out when they will come for it this time, but that’s not the point of this message.

When I took the trash to the street I took a minute to inspect the new shed-like-thingie that I put together on Sunday. At the time I set the over under for the squirrels gnawing their way into it at 12 hours. How is it holding up?

Well, kids, I hope you all picked the over because we’re into the second day and it is still completely free of holes! Wow! Now I have to admit that I only inspected the inside and the roof. There may be places on the side where invasion work has started but the rodents just haven’t made it through yet. That’s a possibility. Still, the furry little pricks have yet to make it inside. Give a tip of the hat to the Tupperware-like structure for holding up against the assault! Good on ya, bro!

Lights Out

It’s almost midnight. Time to turn in. I can already sense it’s going to be another bad night’s sleep.

Not much on the agenda for tomorrow. Put out the trash, go to work, attend a couple of zoom meetings, work on a couple of projects, at the end of the day cook dinner, maybe spend some time with my love, maybe play some guitar (poorly), tell myself I’ll go to bed early, then still be up and writing a post at midnight.

Okay, Robert. Lights out. Go to sleep. You’re Monday is over.

Good night, everyone.

Diabetic Solidarity on The CW

I’ve kinda fallen off the wagon on the DC Comics shows on The CW. Supergirl just wrapped up and I still have half of the last season to go (waiting on Netflix). The Flash starts up again soon. Boatwoman, I think, is already back. Is it? I got partway through season two and lost steam.

One show I don’t watch is Stargirl. I watched the premier episode last year and it didn’t do much for me. Now I think I might have to try again for reasons that have nothing to do with comics or television or anything. I heard today that the woman who plays the lead role has type 1 diabetes… just like Harry. It makes me want to watch the show and do business with their sponsors. Solidarity, am I right? If she does half as well at managing her diabetes as Harry does managing his then she is doing awesome.

I don’t know why, but when I read about this today it gave me a bit of a hell yeah feeling. Season one is on HBO. I think I’ll give it another try.
