Hall of Fame

David Ortiz is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He was the greatest post season performer I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. He was the best clutch hitter, period.

I’m still conflicted though. I’m one of those miserable assholes who wants steroid users kept out of the hall. Ortiz never tested positive, but a year before the testing officially went into effect they tested the testing process. A few years later the names of the players who tested positive during the test leaked and his name was on it.

Is that enough? I’ve been asking myself that question for five years and now that the moment of truth has arrived I think I’m okay with it. If that makes me a hypocrite then I guess I’m a hypocrite.

It’s not me being a Red Sox homer though. I’m 100% against Roger Clemens getting in and no one rooted for him more than I did when he played for the Red Sox. I was also one of those miserable old pricks who was seriously hoping he’d come back for one year to end his career with us.

Speaking of Roger, he, Bonds, and Sosa, steroids users all, failed to get in on their 10th try which means they are off the ballot. There are still a couple of ways for them to get in, but for now at least they are out. I’m fine with that.

The important thing though is that David Ortiz is a Hall of Famer. Congratulations, Big Papi.

Goodnight

The Bruins lost tonight. I didn’t get any music done. I’m not planning on car music tomorrow. I got a chunk of my work project done but not enough to feel comfortable.

I’m going to bed. I can’t keep my eyes open.

Good night, universe. Talk to you tomorrow.

Another RPM Gimmick Idea

I pretty much always use the same time effects on all of my tracks when I mix a song. I like a super short slap back echo on vocal tracks, a dotted eighth note delay on lead guitars, and a short room style reverb on everything. I don’t want my mixes to sound dry, but I do like them to sound almost dry. I want the mixes to sound like they could be a band playing in a small club or a rehearsal room. For as long as I’ve been doing this stuff, that’s been my go-to goal.

I was listening to some Rush the other day. Moving Pictures. I was kinda taken by the reverb. There is a lot of reverb on those tracks. It’s never overpowering or in your face, but it’s there. Maybe this years RPM will include a little experimenting with different reverb types and lengths.

Maybe.

I Don’t Like Mondays

Raise your hand if you like Mondays. I’ll wait.

I suppose there are folks who work weekends and have Mondays off who might like Mondays. For the rest of the working world? Mondays suck.

I am about to have a tough couple of days. I am not going to say I left a project until the last minute, but I may have left a project to the second to last minute and now the clock is close to running out. Shit. I had been doing so much better with planning and scheduling and not letting myself get tied up in things that keep me from what I need to do. Things have been weird this month. Let’s blame it on that, m’kay?

There’s not much else going on today. Here’s hoping for a burst of professional productivity. Happy Monday, everyone.

Hit it, Max.

Why is Cobra Kai a Good Show?

Jen and I just finished the new season of Cobra Kai on Netflix.

My question for the universe: Why is Cobra Kai a good show? I don’t get it. The premise is utterly idiotic. It’s basically based on a gag from the show How I Met Your Mother where one character wrongly thought that the bad guy in many famous movies is really the good guy and Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid was a tragic hero instead of a stereotypical 80’s movie villain.

So why is it good? Also, it functions on the suspension of disbelief that an entire region of California is out of their brains obsessed with high school karate tournaments. Like…. No!

Everything about the show should be awful at worst and just dumb at best.

But it’s not. It’s absolutely riveting! It’s so good!

Why???? I don’t understand!!
