No More Beeps

The smoke alarms stayed quiet for the rest of the night. I lost an hour sleep but that’s worth it for not having the house burn down. We briefly had a theory for what happened (other than it needed a battery swap). I put the dishwasher on before we went to bed and it looks like something small and plastic fell off the rack and landed close to the heat coil. That seemed likely until we did the math. The dishwasher would have been finished a few hours before the alarm went off. Oh well.

Fear the Walking Dead wasn’t terrible last night. It wasn’t good, but it was fair. Other than the laughably stupid light house thing where they decided light houses point straight down, of course. My beef is the same beef that I’ve beefed since Scott Gimple took over as show runner on the main show in season four. Last night was the season premier and we saw exactly one main cast member. One. The season is 16 episodes and the cast is lucky (I should put that word in quotes) if they work in half of them. This one had a character I was interested in, a little at least, but there will be entire episodes that don’t have a single character worth watching. It’s the Gimple way. World Beyond was fair at best too. We’re three episodes into the final season and we basically spent the whole hour introducing new people. Maybe when we look back on the whole thing we’ll realize we learned something important this week, but it sure just feels like prep work right now. Uh. Why do I care?

Red Sox/Astros ALCS game three is tonight at Fenway. Eduardo Rodriguez goes for the Red Sox. We need a big game from everyone tonight. We took the home field advantage away from them with the game two win, we need to hold it. The fewer trips to Houston we have to make, the better. Are you feeling the hype? I am.

Okay, folks. Time to go to work. Have a good one.

Late Sleeper

I went to bed last night a little before midnight. I woke up once around 6:00 but went right back to sleep. Next thing I know it’s 9:00. Eight hours and 45 minutes of sleep, six hours and 30 minutes of restful sleep, and a sleeping heart rate dip of 30%. That might be the best night’s sleep I’ve had since I started paying attention.

We have a scheduled FaceTime with Harry this afternoon and we’re planning a Great British Bake Off watch party too. Other than that… we’re plans free. So some TV, some World of Warcraft? Maybe some more guitar. How about definitely some more guitar.

I started watching two shows that have pretty completely hooked me. Midnight Mass and Y the Last Man. Midnight Mass took a couple of episodes to grab me, but Y the Last Man was more or less instant. There is one more episode of Titans to go and I don’t know how many more episodes of What We Do in the Shadows. Walking Dead World Beyond is on tonight. That’s okay. Fear the Walking Dead comes back tonight too and I don’t know what to think about it. Season five is still the worst season of television I have ever made myself watch. Season six started out better but spiraled right down the toilet and may have ended up worse than season five. Why am I bothering with season seven? It can’t be worse, can it? At the same time, it can’t be good either, can it?

The Red Sox are not playing today. It’s a travel day. The Bruins finally opened their season last night and they don’t play again until Wednesday. No Boston sports for me tonight. Suddenly that feels weird.

I’m having a bad time with the intermittent fasting this weekend. I thought I was going to be driving to Vermont yesterday so I stopped the fast and had breakfast. Today I slept late and did it again. Two sub 16 hour fasts in a row. I think that was the first time I’ve done that in 13 months.

So what am I getting at with all of this?

It’s going to be a lazy Sunday and I like it. Go play your guitars, kids.

Red Sox Win Game Two

The Red Sox beat the Astros in game two, 9-5. They were up 9-0 early and kept letting Houston creep back, but they ran out of time. Game three is Monday night in Boston.

Now that the game is over we’ve moved on to the Bruins game. The opening game of the season is tied at one after two periods.

Just for completeness sake, UMass Lowell’s men’s ice hockey opening weekend was postponed because the other team had a Covid-19 outbreak.

And in closing, check out my cat.

Game Two After Five Innings

Last night I posted that the Red Sox had the lead after five innings, then I fell asleep and they lost. Whoops.

Tonight I am again posting that they have the lead after five innings. This time it’s 9-3. The Sox have scored all of their runs via long ball. Two grand slams and a solo shot. I am cautiously optimistic that we can hold a six run lead, but who the hell knows? With Houston’s offense and our bullpen?

Fingers crossed, as always.

Go Red Sox. Let’s hold the lead this time.

Losing After One Inning

For the third start in a row it looks like Chris Sale just doesn’t have it. He threw about 300 pitches in the bottom of the first. I don’t think it was as bad as the last couple of outings, but it was rough.

The Red Sox are down 1-0 after one inning, though they did get a couple of hits and leave the bases loaded in the top of the first.

Let’s get that run back.

I promise I am not going to sit here at my desk and live blog the entire game tonight. Really, I promise I won’t do that. I’m just a little hyped up right now. Please forgive me if I over do it, m’kay? Thanks.

Fox Stream

So I guess you can stream Fox on your computer if you have a cable subscription you can sign into. That’s good to know. I brought it up in my browser and watched three minutes of pre-game coverage before they went to commercials for the first time. Three minutes of Joe Buck is enough to make me want to gouge my eyes out with rusty nails.

Maybe I’ll switch back to radio.

Also, is Fox using a drone on the field during the warm up? I’ll pay any player up to $1.00 to smash it. You can use a ball, or a bat, or your fist, or you could karate roundhouse kick it. However you want to kill that stupid thing, you could earn yourself a crisp new $1.00 bill.

Oh yeah… game on.

Let’s go Red Sox.
