What Will Go Wrong?

The kids are coming over today.
There’s a new Star Wars show premiering today, The Book of Boba Fett.
We are going to have the Christmas dinner we were supposed to have on Christmas but didn’t.
It’s not too cold out (forecast calls for mid to high 30s).
I got a pretty good night’s sleep last night.
I put down all of the midi tracks for two songs this morning before work.

That’s a lot of good stuff for a Wednesday, don’t you think?

I wonder what’s going to come along and blow the happy vibes?

Hang in there, kids. Only two more work days until New Years Eve.

Chef Lardo

The chicken is in the oven, the veggies are all prepped. I have about 7.5 minutes before I have to start prepping the quinoa, and I typo’d the word “the” twice in the first sentence.

Yup, it’s time for bed.

It’s December 6th today and the weather is weird. It was raining and blah all day, but it was also warm. The temps were in the high 50’s. I actually thought about opening up some windows, and I had my little desktop fan on for a while. How crazy is that?

Today at lunch I read about a mini-galaxy with a black hole at the center that is almost as big as ours. That does not compute, but it is also awesomely cool. There was a lot of online buzz about the two Walking Dead shows from last night. Well… not Fear, that show was atrocious and pretty much everyone agrees. No, the item of interest happened a couple hours after the episode aired when they announced the original lead character, who was supposed to have been killed off three years ago, is coming back. Oh good. I sure the writing they use to pull that off will be stellar. Yes.

Also, lots of buzz about the end of World Beyond. Specifically the post credit scene where we visit another country for the first time, and a tie in to the original show’s season one finale. It’s interesting and all, but it seems odd to give us a cliff hanger at the end of a show that literally no longer exists. I mean, it would have worked better if they told us where we could expect the pay off to come from. As it is we know there’s a road trip spin off from the main show coming, an anthology show which seems like a convenient excuse to bring back dead characters without retconning the way the morons at Fear are about to, and a set of hypothetical, near mythical movies. Safe to assume any payoff would be in the theaters, but who the hell knows. Whatever, the end of World Beyond was pretty satisfying and on the whole the two seasons ended in a way that makes me happy I stuck with it.

Okay. Time to prep the quinoa. Enough of this TV recap bullshit. It’s time for Chef Lard Ass to get-a-cookin’!

My Favorite Winter Weather Event

There isn’t much I like about winter weather, but last night we got a little taste of one thing I do actually really enjoy.

I checked the forecast at one point yesterday because the weather was looking a little iffy and the kids had a long drive back to school. It said we were going to get 1-2 inches of snow, but it wouldn’t start until long after the kids were off the road. That was good, even though all snow is bad.

I woke up this morning expecting to see some fresh snow on the ground. When I looked out the window I saw that there wasn’t any fresh snow. The forecast was wrong. It didn’t snow, or if it did it didn’t stick.

Ah, now that’s a happy way to start a Monday!

Just six months to go until Spring, kids. Bring it on!

Another Reason to Hate Autumn

It’s Autumn. Fall. I really don’t like Fall. I kinda hate it. Here’s one reason.

We caved in and had a landscaping team clean up our yard today. The main reason they were here was to fix and clean the rain gutters on our roof, but they also cleared the yard. Awesome.

Less than an hour after they left I looked out the window and it was literally raining leaves. It was the front of the house. We don’t have any trees in the front of the house. Two doors down from us they have a huge oak tree. The leaves were falling off that tree and the wind was blowing them all the way to our yard. At this rate, within a day or two you won’t be able to tell that our lawn was clear today.

Fall sucks.

One slightly related note. In our back yard the leaves fall off the trees in the woods and the wind blows them all right against the house. The yard itself is usually not too bad, but the base of the house is a leafy mountain. There are some windows along the foundation of the house but only one of them can actually be seen from the living space in the cellar, the rest are in the storage areas. After the landscape folks left, and at the start of my lunch break, I went down stairs to put some laundry on. I couldn’t believe how much light there was down there. Turns out that one window was free of leaves for the first time in a year and you could actually see through it. It was kinda cool. Of course, by the end of the week the window will be blocked again. Yippee.

Having a Day

I am having a day, my readers and only friends. I am having a day.

It’s 47 degrees outside. I don’t know what the temperature is inside, but it’s not too bad. I’m still in Harry’s room and expect to be here through the rest of the work day. It’s not exactly chilly in here. It’s basically kind of pleasant, but it’s not what you would call warm. I’ve walked to the bedroom once or twice just to experience a little more warmth, but it hasn’t been a necessity or anything. The temperature is more than comfortable.

That didn’t stop me from shaking for about two hours this morning. Work got crazy for a while there. Crazy. It’s 2:51 and I am on my lunch. That implies that the morning was busy enough for me to push off food for an hour. Me. Pushed off eating. Yeah. Crazy.

Okay. Lunch break over. Quick check in with the universe over too. I’m heading back in again. Cover me, Porkins!

More Nothing

Another lunch break with out much to talk about. We had plans to go up to Burlington to see the kids this weekend, but the weather is looking bad and thanks to Covid we want to stay outside so we’re looking at rescheduling. I guess I don’t quite need to have Bellana’s Fall laundry done tonight after all. I’ll still try though.

This is going to be broken record-esque. but my back and my shoulders and my legs are killing me and I haven’t don’t any of my exercise yet today. Not good, Robert. Not good.

I started a new candle yesterday. When I lit it again this morning I started a time lapse video. I’ll post it later today and you can bask in the glory of the glorious gloriousness of the candle burning time lapse iPad video.

This has felt like a super long week, but it hasn’t been particularly long at all. I think the start of October just makes everything suck. Not that September’s generally any better. Hang on to it as long as you can though. Don’t leave, September! Stay with me!

I haven’t a clue what I’m talking about anymore.

Okay, back to work. Lunch break is over.

Are We Ready?

Raise your hand if you’re ready for the hurricane that’s about to meteorologically bitch slap us.

<pause while people respond>

<pause while I tally the results>

As suspected, zero people are ready for this hurricane that is about to dump an ocean of ass all over us.

I cleaned up the latest incarnation of Pond Asshole in the cellar. Pretty much guaranteed that after that prick Henri takes a gigantic piss on New England it’s going to re-graduate to Lake Asshole.

At least I am home.

To do list for today:

  • Write this post
  • Put new strings on my sweet new Les Paul
  • Record tons of guitar tracks for 50/90
  • Laundry
  • Try to stay on top of Pond/Lake Asshole
  • Try not to let the hurricane ruin everything
  • Play some World of Warcraft with the love of my life
  • Try not to get too excited about Bellana coming home tomorrow.

More Hurricane Fun

We could be getting hit with an actual hurricane on Sunday. We got hit with the dying remains of one yesterday, and now here comes Henri. Read about it here.

So we had rain almost every day in July. August has been better, but still ridiculously rainy. Our cellar has had water in it for over a month now, and here comes an honest to goodness hurricane.

How’s about a big giant fuck you to mother nature, huh? I think she’s earned it. Asshole.

In honor of this meteorological kick in the balls, here is a song inspired by a hurricane…

…and here is another song inspired by a different hurricane…
