No Snow… Yet

When I checked the weather this morning it called for a foot of snow starting this evening and running all the way through to tomorrow night.

It’s 11:32pm now and there still is no snow. The forecast is now calling for about six inches starting early tomorrow morning.

Here’s hoping the forecast continues to be wrong and we get an early spring instead.

Fingers crossed.

Random Thoughts

How do you tell if your two cats are playing with each other, or actively tying to kill each other? One second they appear to be trying their hardest to tear each other’s throats out with their teeth, and the next second they are curled up together, grooming each other. I don’t get it. All I know for sure is that the kitten likes to stir up shit any chance she gets, and every now and then the bigger cat will turn the tables and ambush the kitten in ways that nearly make her shit herself. It’s scary and entertaining at the same time.

Harry’s coming home tonight. Just for one night. He’s having computer troubles and Jen is going to troubleshoot with him. That’s all. It’s going to be great to have him here though, even if it is a super short visit.

The weather sucks. It’s going to be super cold tomorrow, and we have another snow storm on the horizon. Hopefully I’ll be through with the car music by then. Hopefully the weather will start to improve once February ends, but we all know that Spring doesn’t come to New England anymore until mid-May at best. I want Summer. I want to move to San Diego where it’s summer all the time.

The Red Sox are playing their first Spring Training game right now. The annual beat-the-hell-out-of-a-college-team kick off to the grapefruit league season. They have a 5-3 lead over Northeastern University in the middle of the sixth inning. I am looking forward to the Red Sox season, even though it is clear we have another last place finish in our future. The fun part about Spring Training is the clean slate. Sure, our roster is a nightmare, but until you start losing games that matter, the possibilities are still very much endless. Speaking of San Diego, now that Xander Bogarts is a Padre, maybe it’s time to become a fan for real. I mean it is one of only three non-Boston stadiums I’ve ever been to. There’s personal history there. Maybe.

So television. I am currently trying to keep up with the following shows: The Last of Us, Star Wars The Bad Batch, Star Trek Picard, Poker Face, The Flash, Extraordinary, and You (season three, I am a full season behind). I may also get back into Star Trek Discovery but I’m a full season behind there too. The Mandalorian is coming back next week so we’ll add that to the mix as well. Yellowjackets season two is on the horizon too. On top of those shows, I have a weird compulsion to start binge re-watching The X-Files and Star Trek Deep Space Nine as well. Why am I torturing myself like this?

I haven’t shot any film since Disney World. I blame the weather. I still have a bunch of rolls saved up. I had way more than I needed for Disney so there’s still a nice supply available. I want to get some more black and white film to play with too, and once the weather starts clearing I am going to go WAY off the deep end, with both film and digital. I just need to find a way to convince people to go with me. Like a photography club or something, but just with people I actually know rather than random folks in some online club.

I want to go wander around Boston. I want to go wander around New York. I want to go wander around the mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont. I want to go wandering around the coast of Maine. I want to go wander around the coast of Massachusetts. I want to go back to Washington. I want to go back to San Diego and Los Angeles. I want to go to San Francisco for the first time. I want to go to Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington for the first time too. I just want to go places. Covid screwed us out of three years of exploring. I want to make up for lost time.

Okay. Back to work, Robert. Only 2.5 hours to go until the weekend when you’ll see Harry and do a mountain of work on music and spend quality time with the love of your life. Get on with it!

Mother Nature is a Dick

I got up early today so I could get my faux jogging (yogging) in and still have time for car music. Then I looked outside and it was snowing, and the snow was sticking, and I’m not going out for a drive in the snow.

Well doesn’t that just suck ass.

I Couldn’t Put it Off Any Longer

I fought against it for as long as I could, but I just couldn’t hold it off any longer.

I shoveled the driveway. Today wasn’t the first snow of the season, but it was the first snow that needed shoveling. I didn’t want to, but I just had to.

I am happy that the first shoveling didn’t happen until the later half of January, but I am sad that it still had to happen. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it won’t happen again until after our new windows are installed next month.

Cross those fingers, kids.

Oh, Ya Big Baby

I was going to go out shooting some film this morning, but after I finished my morning faux joggin’ I completely wussed out. Why? I just don’t wanna go out in the cold. You big baby.

I did something to my shoulder today and I have no idea what. It hurts. Why? I didn’t do anything to deserve it, other than being 51 years old when stuff just randomly starts breaking down.

We’re supposed to get a huge storm sometime tomorrow, I think. I don’t know if it’s rain or snow or both. It might mess up some plans for the weekend, but I can’t tell one way or another yet. I hate snow. I really, really hate snow.

The kids are coming home this weekend. Bellana’s car is dead so we will be selling her (“selling”) one of ours. I want to get it tuned up for her. There’s a software recall and I have an appointment to get that done on Saturday. I want to get an oil change too, and have the tires checked. They should be fine but let’s make sure. The other car needs an oil change too and the wiper blades are falling off. So this weekend’s theme is kids and cars, to start with at least.

Did I mention that I’ve lost 200 pounds since January? I was on cloud nine all day long yesterday. I still am. I even went to the facebook to gloat a little. People are asking for before/after pics. I might give the people what they want. I gloated on post.news too. I was the first person on that network to use the hash tag #GastricBypass, but a few fellow surgical survivors said hello. That made me happy.

We are 20 days away from leaving for Florida. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to travel for the first time in almost three years. I can’t wait to spend two whole weeks with the kids. I can’t wait to experience Disney World with the love of my life once again. Did I ever mention that my original plan for proposing to Jen involved the World Showcase at Epcot? In the end I did it at home because I just couldn’t wait anymore, but we did reenact the proposal I had in mind when we took a trip there with Larry and Nawal a few weeks later. Also, and this is very important, I can’t wait to be warm. I know it is not going to be scorching, but it is going to be a whole hell of a lot warmer there than it is here.

I feel like I should have 100 other things to write about this morning, but I’m drawing blanks left and right. My shoulder is really bugging me. I think I pulled a muscle or something. It’s annoying the crap out of me. I’ll get over it, someday. Mostly I’m just really happy that I don’t have to drive into the office today. I am working from home for the rest of this week and the first three days next week. I have to go in next Thursday but hopefully that will only be for half of the day. Starting next month though (after I get back from Florida) we will be going into the office on Wednesdays. Every Wednesday for the foreseeable future. That’s seriously depressing, but I’ll rise above it, somehow.

Okay. I am going to finish my breakfast and then spend half an hour or so gazing longingly at my weight tracking spreadsheet. Specifically the Total Since the First Check In cell where the number is over 200. Ah, what a thing that is.

Dusting

I took a few backyard snow pictures with Dad’s camera. Then I took pretty much the same pictures with my DSLR. Yeah, I am a nerd. An obsessed, uber nerd.

The bird feeders were more than half full on Saturday afternoon. Now on Monday morning they are both empty. Birds are pigs, eh?

Snow and Spirit

We got a little snow yesterday. Not a lot, just enough to more or less cover the ground. There are still spots where some leaves and grass are sticking up, but the ground is more or less white. It’s not the first snow we’ve had this season, but it’s the first that was still there the next morning. I was thinking of going out to shoot some film photos this morning but the roads are icy and I don’t wanna. Stupid snow. I hate snow.

You would think that a little snow on December 11th/12th combined with wrapping a bunch of presents over the last two days would give me a smidgen of christmas spirit. Nope. Nothing. I am notoriously late in developing that particular seasonal spirit but I’ve been trying to make it happen this year. I’ve been plugging in all of the lights most nights and watching christmas specials with Jen and all of that, but it’s just not getting through this year. It will, eventually, but I was kinda hoping to not have to wait until christmas eve, the way I often do.

Last year Jen was having trouble getting into it and we spent an evening driving around looking at people’s lights and that helped a little. I am guessing we’ll need to do that again this year. If the weather cooperates maybe we could drive to Stoneham and check out the displays at the Stone Zoo. Maybe we could go into Boston and take a stroll through the park and down Comm Ave. I don’t know. Something. The kids are coming home from school this weekend but we haven’t worked out a schedule yet. We know they will spend most of their time at Dad’s to start with as they will be spending two weeks in Florida with us just after New Year, so we want to be fair to their other house. Maybe if we get some time with them before the holiday I can talk everyone into going for a lights drive. Maybe having them nearby will be enough to make me feel a little holiday spirited.

I’m sure I’ll let you know.

It’s possible that my current lack of spirit has something to do with a savage gift wrapping injury I sustained on Saturday.

Paper cut.

Wrapping paper cut.

Ouch, babie. Ouch.

A Christmas Present Wrapping Injury. Really.
