Something to Play Along With

Just saving this for later, as this blog sometimes serves as a browser/machine independent collection of bookmarks for me…

That’s a playlist of my band rehearsing each of the songs currently on our new-singer-audition-to-do-list. I haven’t listened to any of it yet so I don’t even know if the takes are complete or not, and I don’t know if they sound good enough to actually make anything out, and I don’t know if we made any colossal screw ups or anything.

In other words, this playlist might be a waste of time, but I did it during my lunch break so it is morally on the up and up.

I have a wordpress.com blog for the old band too. Maybe I’ll post it there for funzies.

RPM Challenge Postscript

Okay, it’s March 9th which means this post is about nine days late. Here’s my final mention of the 2024 RPM Challenge.

Two playlists. One is the “album” I submitted to the RPM Challenge website. The album is called The Potato Situation, after something Jen said to me about making dinner that was really funny and I decided would live on forever in album title form. 10 songs. One or two might be better than crap. The rest are meh at best.

The second playlist is also 10 songs and officially qualifies as an RPM Challenge win in it’s own right, but I did not submit it to the website. Why? Because these are the 10 songs that weren’t good enough to make the final cut. As meh as the official album is, these are worse. There are some really boring stinkers in this pile, but the point of the challenge is to ignore your internal censor and just make stuff happen. In that respect, this playlist is a winner.

And there you have it, folks. Two, 10 song playlists representing two sides of the same project coin… or something like that. Another successful February. I wish the quality were a little better, but I’m happy with the win. I’ll take it.

Now I can get back to the Quarantine Tunes Volume Seven that I’ve been picking away at for a couple of years. Maybe I’ll mix a song or two this weekend. We’ll see.

Random Thursday Thoughts

The first random thought on this fine Thursday afternoon is that it actually is Thursday and not Friday or Saturday. I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago that my inner calendar/clock is a mess this week and I am not quite sure why, but I was convinced all day Tuesday that it was Thursday, and then I was also convinced all day Wednesday that it was Thursday. Now that it actually is Thursday I can’t decide if my brain is convinced that it is Friday or Saturday, which doesn’t make sense because I don’t work on Saturdays but I’ve been working all day today and still at times I’ve felt like it was Saturday.

My brain is broken. Here’s a cat to make it feel better…

Most work days fine me playing podcasts through the Apple HomePod that’s next to my desk in the new office space in my step son’s room. The last couple of days have been different. I’ve been listening to music. Today has been a playlist made up of all of Peter Gabriel’s original, non-soundtrack, non-cover/tribute records both as a solo artist and with Genesis. I made this playlist a few days ago with the idea being I would shuffle it. Today I started from the first track of his first solo record and let it run. The transition from his second record to his third is utterly stunning. The first two records are good. Not great, but good. The third… it’s weirder, it’s a totally different sound/approach/feel, and it is so infinitely better than what he did in the few years before it that it made my head spin a little. I just started album number five… So… I think it’s safe to say it is the masterpiece of his solo career and again the improvement is dazzling.

Here’s a cat to help you appreciate Peter Gabriel the freakin’ legend…

It is January 25th today. It is 50 degrees outside. I actually went outside without a jacket on this morning. Granted, my shoes sank into the mud field that once was my yard, but other than that it was nice. This time of year the air can actually be painful if you go outside for a couple of quick minutes and are not bundled up. Today did not hurt at all.

Okay, that will do for random thoughts as my lunch break ends. I have some paperwork to finish up today and then I am making hamburgers for dinner. My wife made that request last night and I am more than happy to oblige.

Happy Thursday afternoon, everyone… assuming it actually is Thursday. Who knows, right?

Lifehouse

I made a playlist out of songs that might have been part of The Who’s abandoned Lifehouse movie soundtrack. The word is that two Who albums are made up of aborted attempts at bringing Lifehouse together, Who’s Next and Who Are you. There are a bunch of outtakes from Who’s Next that were also part of the project, and a few other songs from throughout their career. This is incomplete and the running order is sort of random, but it’s as valid as anything else (with the exception of Pete Townshend’s Lifehouse Chronicles demo collection).

New Playlist

Here’s that four song playlist I said I’d be putting up on bandcamp. I have no idea why it’s only pulling in the first song. I’m too frustrated and pissed off to figure it out now.

Oh wait, I think I figured it out. Duh. Robbie es Moron.

Alonetone Playlists are Fun

Did I mention that I found a way to get around wordpress.com’s no flash policy in regards to posting playlists from alonetone.com? Did I mention how happy I am about that?

Here’s some more Break Even for your listening pleasure:

I Can Post My Alonetone Playlists on WordPress.com!!!!

Oh happy, glorious day!
