Bruins Nerves

The Bruins have a 2-1 lead over Arizona, four minutes into the third period.

That’s good, right?

Sort of. I mean sure being in the lead is good and all. It’s Arizona though. They are barely an NHL team. The Bruins should be up by 10 by now.

Back on the power play. Can we pad this lead a little, guys?

How’s Thursday Treating You?

I had my guard up when I logged in to work. I was out yesterday but word got to me about a potentially ugly issue. I expected it to explode all over the place as soon as I punched in. Nope. It turned out to be just slightly more than nothing and it was all wrapped up. Talk about a relief! That didn’t fix the other thing that I was expecting to be difficult today, but it did take some pressure off. Good job, everyone!

I’m eating fruit with lunch again. Aren’t you proud of me? Green grapes for the win. I think that’s the only fruit I actually like. Well, apples and oranges are good too, but green grapes are my first choice… and my second, third, and fourth choices. I just like ’em. Grapes good, chocolate bad, he said, entirely without conviction. Ugh.

Is everyone watching The Peacemaker on HBO? I think there is a new episode coming out today. It’s a spin off of The Suicide Squad, so if you don’t like humorous takes on ultra-violence then you might not enjoy it. Is anyone else finding it as hilariously funny as I am? It’s a comic character, right? Are the comics this funny?

Is there anything else going on? The Bruins lost to Colorado in overtime last night. The game didn’t start until 10pm Eastern time but I still managed to listen to the first period. Colorado appears to be the best hockey team on the planet right now and we survived long enough to go to overtime. That sort of feels like a moral victory, even if moral victories are still losses in the standings.

Major League Baseball is still locked out. Crickets.

I’ve been too busy to get any exercise in today. I hate leaving it until after work, but guess where today is headed. Go on, guess.

Okay, back to work with you.

Lazy Sunday

It’s Sunday and Jen and I are just hanging out in the office. We’re in the midst of a grande experiment to improve one facet of our existence. It’s something incredibly important that everyone deals with every day……..

Pillows.

We’re trying to up our pillow game, big time. Jen ordered some pillows the other day and we used them last night. They were very firm. Much firmer than we’ve ever used before. Jen didn’t like them. I haven’t really decided yet. Too firm? Maybe. Too firm to use? I don’t know. We are trying another set of pillows next that are a little squishier. I expect they will be Goldilox: just right.

What else is going on? I am going to have a painful week at work this week, so I’m enjoying the calm today. I’ll pay for it later. I have another day off this week too. Wednesday. That’s three consecutive Wednesdays I’ve been out of work. The other two had actual reasons. This week is just because I had to burn eight hours of vacation time in order to avoid maxing out at the end of the month. I will likely have to do a couple of days in February too, but at least I can use the RPM Challenge as my excuse.

I am a little sad today. A few weeks ago I ordered a pile of new clothes. Two t-shirts didn’t come quickly, but they finally came at the end of last week. The two shirts came from the Rush Backstage store. Yup. I’m wearing my fav band on a t-shirt. Unfortunately, the first of the two that I’ve tried on is really small. It has made me sad. I guess I am going to have to go through a weight loss surgery process in order to get smaller so the shirt will fit. I’m guessing the second band shirt is going to be small too, but I haven’t tried it on yet.

I can’t think of anything else to write about. Jen picked up a copy of NHL ’22 and I started playing it yesterday. Maybe I’ll sneak in another game tonight. I’m playing through the Spengler Cup. I have no idea how that tournament works, but I haven’t lost a game yet. I have it on the lowest difficulty level though, so if I lose a game it means I royally suck.

Okay. Ms Patches just came into the room and she’s meowing for attention. I think I’ll post this and go pet her. Bye for now.

I Didn’t Jinx Them!

The Bruins won! I didn’t jinx them into a loss!

Charlie McAvoy scored the game winner with 45 seconds left in regulation and I didn’t jinx it by watching the scoreboard on the NHL app!

Thank the hockey gods!

I am Bad Luck Again

It happens so often. I’m doing something and I put on a Bruins game and they immediately give up a goal. More often than not they give up the lead as well.

Tonight Jen and I had dinner, chicken and quinoa and roasted green beans, and then watched an episode of Cobra Kai. After that we had a watch party with Harry to see the new episode of The Book of Boba Fett. I approve of the episode in general but I am kinda done with the two time period stuff. I know how he escaped I know how he survived, now I just want to see The Sopranos in Space… except for the scooter kids. I’m done with them too.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, The Bruins. So after the watch party Jen went to the office to play some Warcraft and kill some bad guys. I retired to the bed room to put away some laundry and watch episode seven of Yellowjackets (WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING??). I opened up the NHL app on my phone and brought up the game cast (or whatever they call it) and saw the Bruins had a 2-1 lead over the Capitals. Awesome. As soon as the superlative formed in my tiny little brain the screen refreshed and Washington had tied the game at two.

Damn it.

Come on, Bruins. Let’s turn this around.

The Bruins Win Again

The Bruins have won six of seven games since the Covid/holiday break.

We are still in the final East playoff spot, but doesn’t it just feel good to win again?

Next game is Tuesday against the Metropolitan leading Hurricanes/Whalers. That should be fun.

Keep up the good work, Bruins

Random Stuff

Tuukka Rask returned to the Bruins tonight and beat the Flyers 3-2. Pastrnak scored all three goals. A hat trick for Pasta tonight after a hat trick for Marchand last night. Sweetness all around.

Note to self: you opened a new jug of distilled water for the CPAP machine’s humidifier tonight. Try and keep track of how long it lasts, for future reference and stuff.

Patches is fully back to normal tonight. We can tell because she puked 17 pounds of partially eaten cat food onto Jen’s desk. Right as rain, feline.

I’m sitting up in bed for a little while. Should I rewatch episode 3 of The Book of Boba Fett or should I watch the first episode of The Peacemaker. Or should I just sleep.

You’re right. Sleep it is.

Possible car music in the morning. We will see when the morning gets here.

Back to Work

Well… I knew I couldn’t fight it. I punched into work a little before 9:00am and stuck the final nail in this year’s holiday season’s coffin. It’s over, folks.

The kids are still here. I figured they would have left by now so I am pretty happy. They did both sleep really late though so that might be the reason. I don’t care. I love it when they are here. Even when I am working and can’t go hang out with them.

Today has been really quiet overall. Not much to write about. The Bruins played twice over the weekend, finally coming back from the long Covid-19 shut down. I watched a few minutes of Saturday’s game against Buffalo and the little that I saw looked pretty awful. They straightened it out and won in overtime. I didn’t see yesterday’s game against Detroit but they spanked them pretty thoroughly. Here’s hoping that’s a sign of good things to come.

Major League Baseball is still locked out. I keep seeing stories tweeted out from all sorts of sources talking about the things such and such a team needs to do to improve and yadda yadda blah. I haven’t been reading the articles but I am really hoping they all boil down to something along the lines of “don’t be locked out.” Everything else is sort of superfluous* until that happens.

What else, what else… did I mention that all of my workout time that my Apple Watch tracked last week was on the exercise bike? I’m pretty sure that was a first for me. Does it mean anything? No. No, it does not.

I haven’t given much thought to the RPM Challenge this year. The only thing that’s come to me for something different to do is to use two guitars. I always double track my rhythm guitar parts. What if, instead of just tracking everything twice, I use a different guitar for each take? My Les Paul Standard would be playing in one ear, and my SG would be playing in the other. What about that for goofy nerdness? Maybe even use a different amplifier with each guitar. I’m thinking about it.

Okay, 2:00pm approaches. Time to wrap up this lunch break post.

*I had to pay $0.10 to use that word.
