Home

I’m home. We are going to have hamburgers for dinner and watch What If…?.

Harry is here.

Jen is here.

I’m here.

Where the hell is my cat?

Feels Like Home

Last night was pretty quiet. My mother fell asleep sitting up on the side of her bed. She was like that for over an hour. I woke her up and told her she should lie down or she was going to hurt her back. She told me she hadn’t been sleeping and that I was crazy. Now she’s complaining about how much her back hurts.

My father didn’t sleep terribly well either. He has some aches and pains but I am not sure that is what was bothering him. I heard him sleeping and waking off and on. He’s supposed to take some Metamucil with his morning pills. He’s complaining that I made it too thick. Sorry, dad.

I went to bed a little earlier than I usually do when I am here. I turned in at 11:15 or so. I woke up a little before 4:00am again. That keeps happening. This time I woke up on my own. Both of my parents were sleeping. I didn’t fall back to sleep until sometime around 4:30 and then I stayed under until about 6:00. I got five hours and 45 minutes of sleep. That’s like hitting the jackpot around here.

I got up and started getting ready for the day. I showered, packed up my dirty laundry, packed up my CPAP machine, and took it all out to the car. That’s when a little piece of home followed me here.

I often bitch about the friggin’ wildlife in our yard getting into our trash barrels. It’s pretty common for them to knock them over and scatter shit all over the place. As I was walking back from the car to the house I saw that something knocked over one of my parents’ trash barrels. I got to have the homey experience of cleaning all of their shit off the yard too. Hooray.

The home health worker is going to be a little late today. She should be here around 9:15. I only have two short meetings on my schedule today. I am seriously hoping for a quiet day at work. Yesterday wasn’t bad, but overall I really need things to go simply and smoothly today. I can already feel my fuse getting shorter and shorter. I just need to keep my head down and not lose my shit over something irrelevant.

Duck and cover, everyone. Here comes Friday the 13th. In the immortal words of that guy Samuel L Jackson played in Jurassic Park, hold on to your butts.

Stop Raining!

Last night when I got home from work I checked the cellar. There was a little water, but the amount was small enough that I was feeling optimistic. Then as we were getting ready to go to bed it started to pour like the world was ending.

This morning there was definitely more water down there then last night. I cleaned it up. I’ve checked on it a couple of times and things were looking okay. Then about five minutes ago it started to pour like the world was ending.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I give up. I can’t take this anymore. I’m just going to steal a row boat and row out to the middle of the harbor and live there from now on. If I am going to be swimming in my home I might as well do it in the ocean.

To hell with this bullshit.

Good Morning

Good morning, everyone. How’s your Tuesday going. Hope you’re off to a good start.

I’m at my parents house. My brother is here and he’s working at his desk. He expects to be wrapping up soon so I can hijack his monitors again. I feel like a squatter but it’s okay.

Jen just called me. She’s off work this morning and went out for some errands. One of them was getting the Kia inspected. She had to go into the shop. Pre-Covid that would have been nothing. Now? That’s a huge accomplishment. I’m very proud of her. My wife has some serious guts.

She also set something up for tomorrow that I don’t want to talk about yet that literally took the weight of the world off my shoulders. The relief is so great it’s like a physical thing. Thank you, my love.

Okay, off to work. Happy Tuesday, everyone!

10 Years Ago Today

10 years ago today we bought a house. September 29, 2010 was closing and moving day. Right smack dab in the middle of the biggest economic down turn since The Great Depression we did our part to help our nation recover by sinking great big gobs of money into our home. With the exception of our wedding day, it was the biggest thing I’ve ever been a part of.

10 years ago today, this place was a house. Today it’s a home. Thanks to the friggin coronavirus, it’s also two offices and a couple of classrooms, but mostly it’s a home. Our home. I love it.

Worlds Colliding Part 2

This is insanity on a level hereforto never imagined.  Is herforto a word?  No… no it isn’t.

I am back on my MacBook, but now I am using the keyboard from my work PC.  Oh the humanity!  I have the MacBook, my work PC, my work keyboard, and the USB mouse I use on my normal telecommuting laptop and they are all mixed and matched and both computers are using the same monitor and keyboard and mouse all depending on the pressing of one button and the plugging of one cable.

Goodness gracious me, what have I done?

Worlds Colliding

Wow, this feels weird.  I am sitting at home in our home office, typing this post on my work computer… without remote connecting.  My work PC is on my home desk.  I had to get a USB Wifi Network Adapter to make it work, and boy was installing that little sucker a pain in the ol’ rumpus room, let me tell you.

Anyway, now I just need to remember how to setup the work VPN and I should be good to go… I think.
