Hockey East Quaterfinals

My old school won a playoff game tonight. UMass Lowell beat Connecticut in their Hockey East Quaterfinal game tonight, 2-1 at UConn.

Their Semifinal game should be Friday at the TD Garden in Boston. If they win that, the Hockey East Final will be Saturday, also at The Garden. If they win Friday, should we go to the game on Saturday? It wouldn’t be my first Hockey East Finals game. I went to one once. BU vs Maine? Was that it? That was the day we all decided to pretend we had Irish accents for some reason. One or two fellow spectators at The Garden that day bought the deception, though most didn’t… and I think it was still called the Fleet Center back then.

Until then, let’s go Lowell, right?

NESN on AppleTV

Why didn’t anyone tell me that NESN has an AppleTV app?

I just installed it and now I am watching spring training Red Sox baseball on my AppleTV! Will regular season games be blacked out by MLB? Will regular season Bruins games be blacked out? I have the account I’m using for the app tied to our Verizon cable account and NESN is in that package, so I don’t think so.

The next B’s game is Thursday. Fingers crossed until then.

NHL Trade Deadline

I was 100% sure that today was the NHL trade deadline. I was going to write a post about today being christmas-esque with both the trade deadline and the premier of season three of The Mandalorian.

Nope, the trade deadline is Friday March 3, 2023.

How could I be so wrong? How could I have been so sure I was right and still be wrong?

I am a failure as a hockey fan.

Hockey Games

If these games had been in Vermont we probably would have gone to one of them. I’d still like to go, but more just to see a game in person again, and not enough to actually go, you know? If they were in Vermont I’d have tried to get the kids to meet us there.

Oh well.

Another Bad Dinner

I got about a third of the way through my tiny main course tonight and my stomach started feeling like some bad times were coming. I stopped eating in the hopes that I could avoid it. After about 30 minutes I tried another bite and it was the same. Okay, dinner is over.

I am drastically under both my protein and liquid goals. I was thinking I would have a protein shake to help catch up on both fronts so I waited an hour after my last bite. Unfortunately my blender was in the dishwasher, dirty. I could mix the shake another way, but it’s just not that good unless I blend the holy hell our of it. Now I am having a protein bar that I haven’t tried before. Experimenting, you know? Does it taste good? Nope.

Just winning left and right tonight, aren’t I. Ugh.

On the upside, the Bruins won, the Riverhawks won, the Yankees lost, and the Padres are winning. Good night for sports around here.

How about windows? Not the computer kind, but the kind you look through. We’re getting a bunch of new ones. We have a few windows in the house that open via cranks and they are all falling apart. The cranks, not the windows themselves. Jen made an appointment with the folks at Anderson and their rep came today and inspected our situation and ended up selling us a bunch of new windows, including a replacement for our big bay window in the living room. It’s going to be six months or so before they come and install everything, but i can’t wait to see the results.

The Bond rewatch continues. I’m halfway through Goldfinger. I know the last time I said From Russia with Love was my favorite, and I stand by that statement, but you can’t deny that Goldfinger is the best. It’s just the perfect Bond movie. I desperately want that Aston Martin DB5. Best car ever.

Okay, I finished the protein bar. In 30 minutes or so I will have a high protein snack, and that should take care of the 80 gram goal. Then I will have to drink as much water as I can handle before bed. I think it’s going to be a tough night.

Tomorrow I try to replace the dryer’s exhaust vent. Wish me luck.

Two Years and Seven Months

Two years and seven months ago today, at 5:30pm, my personal Covid-19 pandemic lock down began. 3/13/20 was our last day in the office. We are not particularly locked down at this point, but we’re pretty much still isolated. We’re going to stores, I’m visiting Mom regularly (and need to visit Dad more often), we’re just spending as much time as we can afford to away from everyone. We’re wearing masks and being good, virus-conscious humans.

I am so friggin’ sick of it. I miss my friends, I miss playing in the band, I miss my family. Granted, my step kids are both in Vermont so I would be missing them even without our personal lock down, but you get the point. I want to travel, though we can’t afford it, I want to do things.

I want to go to hockey games again. The Bruins won their opening game last night. They beat The Capitals 5-2. I listened to as much as I could on the radio. Probably not as much as I would have liked, but a nice chunk. UMass Lowell is currently 2-1, with all three games being non-conference games. They play in Michigan tonight and tomorrow, two more non-conference games. The first Hockey East games are next week. I have been able to catch at least a little of each game on the radio. I’m not sure if they cover road games on WUML Lowell 91.5 FM, but I think we’ll find out tonight. As for the kids’ school, University of Vermont… 0-4 with all games being in conference. Yeah… pretty grim. I haven’t tried to find them on the radio. It might not be worth it.

In closing, I watched She-Hulk while doing my walkies. Teeny Tiny Spoilers Ahead. It was season one episode nine, the first season finale. I did not realize that I so desperately needed to hear something like five seconds worth of Richard and Linda Thompson music in the MCU. I did need it though. I really, completely needed it. The episode was great, but at the end when they snuck in a few seconds of I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight just made my fucking week. Props to K.E.V.I.N. and the gang.

Random Out-Doing-Errands Pics

I went out to run a few errands tonight. I took a couple of pics. The grocery cart pic was taken about one minute after the Bruins scored their first goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead over Washington. We’re in the second intermission right now and we’re up 3-2. Bergeron, Pastrnak, and Hall with the Bruins goals.
