Patches Doesn’t Dig Pink Floyd

I’m feeling a little blue today. Fathers Day often has that effect on me. I always feel like an imposter. It’s not right or wrong and I don’t want to debate it, it’s just the way it is. It’s okay.

Harry cleaned his room today and Jen shuffled around some computer equipment. Harry’s back at his father’s now, given the day I believe that’s the right thing to do even though I always want him here with us, and Jen was wrapping up her desk set up. She asked me to carry something into Bellana’s room for safe keeping, and she also said something about a mouse. She was referring to the personal computer peripheral input device but it instantly put a completely unrelated song into my head.

Patches was curled up in a ball on Bellana’s bed. I performed a dramatic poetry reading of the song lyrics in the hopes that it would cheer both me and her up a little…

I know a mouse, and he hasn’t got a house,
I don’t know why I call him Gerald.
He’s getting rather old, but he’s a good mouse.

Patches just sat there looking at me. No response at all. I don’t think she really gets Syd Barrett.

Saturday Recap

What did I accomplish today?

I mowed the front yard, the side yard, and about 20% of the back yard. I had dinner and a movie with Harry and Jen which included Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I swapped out the five gallon Poland Springs cooler bottle. I successfully did not forget to put the patio furniture away (I almost did but then I didn’t). I carried a gigantic desk into the office. I cleaned up a surprising amount of cat vomit.

It doesn’t look like much on paper but my back is killing me which makes it feel like a lot. I’m going to sneak some laundry in before bed too which is kinda like icing on the Saturday cake.

Cool. Bring on Sunday.

Missed Chance

I cooked burgers on the grill tonight. Jen made the patties from a package of ground beef and some other awesome stuff and I grilled them.

I totally forgot to take pictures for the ‘gram. Like, dude… missed opportunity. They were really good.

My wife Jen is basically the most awesome awesomeness in awesome town.

Friday Morning

Friday morning… at last.

I don’t think we have any plans this weekend. We’ll get to spend some time with Harry, but it’s Father’s day weekend and he should spend Sunday with his dad.

Other than that? No clue. I need a haircut and I need to have my eyes checked but neither will happen this weekend. Maybe next weekend, but not this weekend. The grass could use a mowing and we have a lot of leaves in the back yard still. I could work on that some. The forecast looks agreeable.

I just need to get through one more work day. Just one more. Here’s hoping all of our customers have full blown summer fever and they all go for long weekends and leave us alone for today. Wouldn’t that be nice (there’s zero chance)?

Okay. Time to punch in. Happy Friday, everyone. May your work day be quiet and easy and may your weekend arrive quickly.

Toodles.

Rehab

Patches is glad that my father will be moving to another rehab facility today. It should happen around 4:00pm, half an hour from now.

This is the third facility this year. Please please please let him have better results this time.

Back in the ER

I just got word. My father is back in the ER. The never ending hospital stay ramps up for round three.

I feel like the whole family is just beaten down. It’s not even my ass in the hospital bed. I can’t imagine how my father feels right now.

It’s just overwhelming and heart breaking and I want my family back.

Changes Coming?

It’s starting to look like my father might be heading back to a rehabilitation hospital soon. It’s all up in the air, but it’s trending that way.

I feel completely overwhelmed, and I’ve been there a tiny fraction of the time my siblings have been there. I can’t imagine how they’ve held on. I feel like the phrase that describes how I feel might be shell shocked but that’s probably not right.

I never would have thought going back to the hospital would feel like a positive step, but it does. That is just heart breaking.

SundaySundaySunday

We’re going to see Bellana for a bit today. It’s like Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, back in December when Covid-19 ruined the traditional extended family Christmas we talked about having a Christmas party in July. Literally Christmas in July. I don’t know if that’s going to happen as we planned it, but I’m still game if everyone else is.

HoHoHo in the sunshine and all that? It could work. We can look back on it as a test drive if we ever find ourselves spending Christmas in Australia.

It could happen, right?

Harry’s not getting the standard graduation party, but we are going to take him back to Disney at some point. We have a date in mind which means we also have a date when we can actually buy tickets for the dates we want to go. There is an entry on our family calendar right now that marks the date when we can first book the dates we want to go… I want to find a way to celebrate that date as a sort of screw you to Covid-19. The ‘Rona messed up Harry’s last two school years and we need to go as overboard as humanly possible on the corrective overreacting. If that means celebrating the day we buy tickets then let’s do it!

I’m trying to write this while watching an episode of Community and my concentration is all over the place. Can you tell or does this post read like it was written by someone with Changnesia?

Contrast

Yesterday was a legendary day.

Today… not so much.

It’s the contrast that makes life interesting, ya know? Still… a little more yesterday vibe would go a long way.

Jen is making an epic quinoa dish right now. It smells so good. That should help lift a little fog.

The to do list for tonight includes another hockey prediction post. As usual, my second round picks blew chunks. Maybe I’m in the wrong business.

I need to do some music for this month too, but it’s hard to be creative when you’re too miserable to think straight. Maybe I’ll feel up to it after the quinoa.
