Things Might Be Ramping Up

Things have been mostly quiet tonight. She did need the doctor approved supplemental pain med about half an hour ago. I thought that would be it, but she’s starting to sound like it’s going to be a rough night. I’m still optimistic that the extra pain med is still in the process of kicking in and she’ll be able to get comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Fingers eternally crossed.

Nana Shift

Here I am at my parents house again. Another Nana Sitting Shift. Today was a bit of a crazy day. I failed to complete either of the top two items on my to do list at work, but I managed to earn a save on another issue, and two of my staff members were able to show off a bit in front of a larger audience. It turned out to be a pretty good day.

My mother is dealing with some pain tonight but as of right now she’s managing. Pain meds are still about 40 minutes away. We’re trying to make it that long without any approved supplemental meds. Fingers crossed.

I was thinking about watching the Red Sox tonight. I can’t though because they are in a rain delay. Why? Because we live in a region whose climate has become rain twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. I thought climate change was going to raise the sea level high enough to drown us, but instead it’s just going to be rain that offs us.

I would like to mix a song or two tonight if I can, but I might just search Netflix for a movie or something. I’m still undecided. I’ll wait until after the 8:00pm meds.

Fingers crossed for a quiet night.

Quiet Night

It was quiet here last night. No pain complaints. I made her soup for dinner, then an hour later I saw her bringing food into her bedroom. Did she forget that she ate? Did she not like the soup? Should I have given her more? Who knows. I’m just happy she went to sleep without issues.

Rick and Morty was good. Better than last week (Sticky!). World of Warcraft Burning Crusade never installed on my Mac. Jerk. I’ve been playing on a PC at home. The times I’ve played in the past I was always with Jen and just followed her around. I never really learned how to do stuff on my own. The goal this time is to get up to a decent level and then meet up with Jen and go on an online fantasy killing spree. You know, like you do. It’s love, yeah?

I’m working a half day today and then taking my mother to a doctor’s appointment. The hospital has valet parking. Here’s hoping it’s close enough to where we need to go to help. Also, here’s hoping the rain eventually stops (it never will, ever).

Okay, off to work.

Dinner

Dinner for Mom. I had delicious tacos that Jen made at home before coming to Tewksbury.

Their microwave is the most powerful device on Earth. 2.5 minutes and the soup is hotter than the sun. Really.

Oh look, the TNT network is showing Captain Marvel again. Again.

Tag Team Glasses

I picked up my new glasses yesterday. One pair of progressive lenses for general use, and one pair of intermediate depth for sitting at the computer.

It’s kind of a whole new world.

My old glasses were progressive so when I worked at the computer I had to search around to find the sweet spot that gave the clearest view of the screen. Normal walking around or driving stuff didn’t require any work. Reading a book… that was tough.

So far the new glasses, both pairs, are doing fine. The Computer glasses felt odd when I first sat at my desk yesterday. I thought I might struggle getting used to them. Next thing I knew an hour had passed and I never noticed them at all. It was like I wasn’t wearing them. Brilliant! The progressives are… progressives. Looking straight ahead is fine. Turning your head can cause the world to go a little out of whack. Shapes and angles get a little screwy, but only a little. No issues walking around or driving or watching TV or anything.

The issue I am having is remembering to switch. I sat at my desk for an hour or so this morning then got up to take a pit stop before my first meeting. I forgot to swap glasses and the walk to the can was a blurry adventure. It wasn’t a problem, it was just different. I came back from lunch and forgot to switch from general to computer and the screen looked a little freaky. Oops, gotta make the change again.

I got bigger frames this time and having more lens in my face is making a big difference. Give me a couple of days and I don’t think I will be able to function with my old glasses anymore. That’s kinda the point though, right?

Three hours and eight minutes until the weekend. I just came back from two days off, sort of a mid-week weekend, so I shouldn’t be in that I need the weekend right now state of mind… but I totally am. I need me some weekend. I don’t have to nana sit until Sunday, so I’m hoping for a nice, calm, fun, relaxing day with the love of my life tomorrow. Maybe we’ll watch Black Widow. We can kick back and relax while watching an Avenger beat the shit out of bad guys. Sounds like a good Saturday to me.

I’m not Good at This

Today was a bad day. Nothing bad actually happened yet everything felt like it was bad. What’s the opposite of rose colored glasses?

Whatever. Tomorrow we are going to see Bellana so that should help my spirits for a while. I can’t wait to see her. I’m so proud of her. We aren’t going to see much of Harry this week but it looks like we might be able to squeak in some time. This was a dad weekend so we haven’t seen him since Friday morning. I can’t wait to see him. I’m so proud of him.

Did I somehow change font size between the first two paragraphs or are my eyes just having a rough day like the rest of me?

Speaking of going blind, my new glasses are ready!

Well folks, it’s getting time for bed. I, your humble narrator, will talk to you again tomorrow. Goodnight, moon.

Come On, Tomorrow

Come on, tomorrow. Let’s get you here now!

I’m off work tomorrow. We’re having a step daughter visit and I can’t friggin’ wait. Literally everything is getting under my skin and rubbing me the wrong way today. Everything. My parents phone has been ringing off the hook and every single ring makes me want to flush the phone down the fucking toilet. At work, I have a big thing I’m trying to finish before my day off and I can’t because every few minutes there is another big thing. I want to delegate it out to the group, like a good supervisor should, but everyone in the group is already on something huge. I’ve been at my parents house for 31 hours now and I’ve got another 4-5 hours to go but it feels like it’s never going to end.

Earlier I fantasized about digging a hole and screaming into it. Now I am fantasizing about digging a hole and burying myself in it. Argh!

Other nitpicky things:

  • The podcast app on my iPad has crashed twice since lunch started
  • I got six hours of sleep last night which was more than the night before and I’m starting to run out of gas
  • Why does the meals delivery ring the doorbell just as I am getting into a meeting
  • Why is the meals delivery delivering two meals now
  • Are we really going to have rain every day this month
    • I overheard my mother listening to the news yesterday and they said that while there has not been measurable rainfall every day in July so far, there has been recorded rain drops hitting Logan Airport every day in July. I guess that means the record books do not show a full month (so far) of rain, but technically there has been. Whatever, this blows.
  • There are four lightbulbs in the light fixture in this room. Two of them are out. We don’t have replacements.
  • I do not enjoy being within ear shot of The Game Show Network all day (though I used to work in a building that used to be The Game Show Network’s headquarters, or so I’ve heard) it is way better than Jerry Friggin’ Springer reruns.

The fucking house phone has rung twice while I typed this post.

Screaming.

All of the screaming.

I Could Use Some Caffeine

So, nana sitting. Last night sucked. About as bad as it gets. Nothing I couldn’t handle, but it really sucked.

This morning was worse than most mornings, in my experience, but not too terrible. Last night I had to give her an approved extra sleeping med. Her prescription is for one and two third pills per dose, but we only give her one and save the two thirds as a reserve for bad nights. She got the two thirds last night. It seems like the morning after the extra two thirds can be a little confusing. That was the case this morning. She came into the living room a little before 7:00am (the latest I’ve ever slept on my overnight shift) and asked where Dad was. I told her he’s still at the hospital. She said no, he came home last night. No, he didn’t, I said as my heart broke once again.

On a purely selfish level, the worst part of today by far has been the lack of caffeine. I bitched myself out for forgetting to bring soda last time and then here I am forgetting again this time. What a moron. Next time I’ll staple a post it note to my head to remind me. Dumb ass. I got about five hours of sleep last night. That plus a caffeine IV drip would get me through the day without issue. Instead I find myself feeling like Homer J Simpson in that episode where he fell asleep driving. Remember that one? Where the hell did that image come from? I haven’t seen that in at least 4361432543 years.

I have, however, added a couple of songs to the 50/90 pool. There’s that at least. Might try to sneak in a little more before I leave. There is talk of me playing World of Warcraft again soon so I have to balance the music and the fictional fantasy slaughter. hehe
