Why Can’t They Win at Home?

The Boston Red Sox kicked off a home stand tonight at Fenway Park.

They are trailing the Cubs 5-1 in the top of the seventh inning. The odds of them winning were low even before the Cubbies took an early lead.

Why?

Because the Red Sox can’t win at home. Why can’t the Red Sox win at home? What’s going on? It’s Fenway Freakin’ Park? Hows abouts you win some games at home, Red Sox? Let’s cut the shit.

In other Boston sports news, the Bruins play the Leafs in game four of their first round series in Toronto tomorrow night. I really wish tomorrow’s game was tonight. I hate the random two day breaks during the playoffs. One day off between games is plenty. Cut the crap, NHL. I wants me my hockey games!

Okay, enough sports for this post.

Go Red Sox (puh-leeze!)

Go Bruins.

Red Sox Fail

The Red Sox played the annual Patriots Day/Boston Marathon Monday 11:00am game today. Morning baseball, everyone!

I always enjoy listening to the Marathon Monday game on the radio while I’m at work. I don’t know why, it’s just something I particularly like to do. Today’s game was tough for a bunch of reasons. I had a whole pile of meetings on my calendar, but there were breaks during game time so it was okay. In the end the Red Sox lost to Cleveland. It was close through most of the game but once The Guardians started hitting it was painful. Lots of defensive screw ups for the Red Sox, including two players crashing into each other hard enough to draw blood. Ouch.

Those aren’t the worst parts of the game though. The worst part was the radio broadcast. As soon as I logged onto the MLB app and brought up the audio I wanted to yell at WEEI and shut it off. I didn’t, but I should have. The radio announcing team included Sean McDonough. I fucking hate Sean McDonough. He used to do Red Sox TV broadcasts years and years ago (before getting the job doing Monday Night Football? Was that really a thing?) and he sucked to high heaven. I hated every single syllable that came out of his asshole of a mouth. Ugh, I fucking hate that guy! I’d rather listen to a baby crying at 100 decibels for three hours than listen to that prick call a game.

I listened to the game though. I didn’t let that butt munch ruin my Patriots Day. Screw that guy. The team losing was just fitting though. Yeah, screw that guy.

Haiku for You #178

On Patriots Day in Massachusetts, the Boston Red Sox play a morning game, which starts at 11:00am. It’s timed so that the fans will exit Fenway Park just about the same time the Boston Marathon reaches Kenmore Square. It’s a great little mini-tradition, and I always enjoy listening to the Sox game on the radio while I work.

Today’s haiku for you is the story of how WEEI and the Red Sox ruined it for me today.

Turn on the Sox game
and hear Sean McDonough’s voice.
Fucking hate that guy.

Catching the Bug Again

Daylight Savings starts tonight. Just a few hours from now. The weather has been getting noticeably warmer of late. Spring is coming, and with it comes the return of the bug…

The photography bug.

I was looking at my camera bag today. The bag that has two film cameras inside. They are calling me. The bug is back, folks and I am going to have to give in to it at some point soon.

Boston… I’ve been saying for two years that I want to bring the cameras into the city and shoot everything there. This is the year, I’m telling you. This is the year.

Bring on that good weather. Give me some clear skies at sunrise and that sweet golden light. Bring me some stuff to photograph and a digital camera in one hand and a film camera in the other. The time is almost upon us, folks. I will be ready.

Two Local Political Events

Today is March 5th here in Massachusetts. This year that means two things.

First and foremost, it is Super Tuesday today. That means it’s Primary Election Day here as well as a bunch of other states. I have not voted yet. I plan to vote after dinner tonight. It’s going to be tight as far as time goes, but the polls are open until 8:00pm so I should be able to get there with time to spare. Keep your fingers crossed.

March 5th also has another noteworthy event, historically speaking. Today is the anniversary of The Boston Massacre. On this day in 1770 a bunch of Bostonians were shot by English troops. It was an important event that turned into one of our nation’s most famous propaganda vehicles, thanks in part to this Paul Revere image:

Here’s a link to the wikipedia article, which I did not read but am willing to assume it is accurate because trust is a thing. Also, I took the image from wikipedia as well.

I could have sworn I had a photo of the victim’s memorial that is in the Granary Burial Ground in Boston, but I can’t find it anywhere. I guess I’ll just have to go for a walk down the Freedom Trail this summer to take another pic.

Anyway, go vote (where applicable).

Random Pics from Last Night

I took a few pictures with my iPhone last night. I figure I’ll share a few of the decent-ish ones. It has been almost exactly four years since I’ve experienced live music. I knew I missed it, but I wasn’t aware of how much I missed it. I am not going to be able to wait four years before I get more. I did wear a mask through the whole show though. Some things have definitely changed over the last four years.

Anyway, random pics:

Anywhere in the World

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Daily writing prompt

There is a short, obvious answer to this question. There is also the day dream fantasy answer. I’ll give you both and maybe give a photo or two.

Home is where my wife, Jen is. Where ever she is, that is where I want to live. Right now that is a little ranch house in North Eastern Massachusetts, just a stone’s throw away from the New Hampshire state line.

That’s the honest, real answer. I want to be where she is. Now for the daydream fantasy answer. There are a lot of options. I sort of see myself as a city guy when I fantasize about moving to a new place. I would probably prefer to live in the suburbs close to a big city, but for discussion’s sake let’s say we’re moving to the city itself.

First on the list is San Diego. I went there for the first time on our honeymoon and fell in love with the place. We’ve been back a few times and each time we’ve gone it’s gotten harder and harder to leave.

The second daydream choice would probably be Manhattan. This is conflicting to me given that I am a Boston sports fan and absolutely loath all New York teams. It would be hard to live in enemy (Yankees) territory, but I think I could manage it.

The dark horse candidate comes from our honeymoon again. We visited a bunch of places on our honeymoon. One destination was Washington, DC. While we were there we explored Maryland a little and spent a little time in Annapolis. That is a city I think I could live in.

As far as the United States is concerned let’s just say that I am a New England guy first and foremost. I could live in the mountains of New Hampshire, the coast of Maine, the lake in Vermont, the Southern cost of Rhode Island, and… well… Connecticut… not so much. If I could pick anywhere in New England though, it would absolutely be Boston.

What about places outside of the US? As we watch in horror as fascism rises here, I often find myself wondering if the time to leave has arrived. I would need to go someplace where they speak English. Canada is cold so I probably would not want to go there, even though Toronto is beautiful.

Montreal is pretty wonderful too, but that has the same negative that New York has. Living among the enemy (Montreal Canadians fans) and all.

England would be a decent choice too, but Brexit makes me think that it wouldn’t be different enough from the US as far as the political climate is concerned. Scotland and Ireland would be better. Glasgow or Dublin maybe? I’ve never been so no pictures. Australia would be another option, but I really don’t know much about that country beyond the Monty Python Philosophers sktech.

So there you have it. The correct answer to where would I live is where ever Jen lives. The fantasy answers are San Diego, Manhattan, Annapolis, and maybe some English speaking place outside of the US.

I Want the Weekend

My step son has all of next week off from school. He’s coming home tomorrow. He’ll spend a few days here, then a few days at his dad’s new house, then Thanksgiving take two at our house a week from Saturday, then he’ll go back to school. My step daughter will be home at some point though, but she’s no longer a college student and has to work next week. We don’t know her schedule yet but she’ll be here for Thanksgiving take two as well.

With the return of at least one kid being imminent, I am really looking forward to this weekend. As an added bonus, this coming Saturday will also see me and my friends Larry and Mike (the bass player) reliving our roaring 20’s by going to see Letters to Cleo and the Gigolo Aunts at The Paradise in Boston. We’re going to pretend it’s 1996 or so and go check out some Boston music… even though most of the members of both bands don’t live in Boston anymore. So what, it’s going to be nostalgic rock and roll like you’ve read about.

Today has been quiet, apart from the plumber visit this morning. I’ve had a couple of meetings and have one more coming up in a few minutes. I’ve mostly focused on paperwork. It’s been a good day so far. It’s 60 degrees outside, which is nice. Warmer days are rare at this point in the calendar. Granted I haven’t gone outside since 8:00am today and at that time the temperature was in the low 30’s. Timing is everything, folks.

Right then. Time to go and prep for the next meeting. I just wanted to write down how excited I am for this weekend. So many good things on the schedule. I’m ready for them all right now.
