BendGate 2020 Edition

Remember that super groovy iPhone stand thing I posted a picture of a couple of days ago?

Check out what putting my iPod touch into it for a whole day did.

Woah! It’s like BendGate all over again! I’m glad I used the iPod for the 10 hour time lapse instead of my iPhone. That woulda sucked!

Apple Audio

Santa brought me two Apple products. A stereo pair of HomePod Minis and a set of AirPod Pros.

The HomePods are a replacement for our old Sonos speaker. The Sonos is too old to support Apple AirPlay so now I’ll be able to run audio directly off my phone or iPad while I work. This pleases me greatly.

I still need to play with some of the features on the AirPod Pros, but the early verdict is they are a serious upgrade over the first gen model.

It’s an Apple Christmas and that is goodness.

How Was Your Thanksgiving

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Was it socially distanced? Did you stay safe or did you ignore the pandemic and spread the disease far and wide? We stayed safe. If you didn’t, fuck you.

We moved some furniture around to prep for Christmas decorations. One of the things that got moved was the Apple HomePod. Ever since they announced the HomePod mini, I’ve been kinda jonzing for one but Jen wanted to upgrade our Sonos system. Either way is fine with me, but I just like being an Apple fanboy.

Well, after moving the HomePod last night Jen has seemed to be a little inspired. She did a lot of cool stuff with the Home app, including setting it up for our Hue lights, and the new intercom function. I had taken the HomePod Mini off of my Christmas list, but now… woah. Are we getting on the HomePod bandwagon for more than just listening to music?

Have you watched the episode of The Mandalorian that came out today? I didn’t think they could top last week’s episode, but holy crap did they ever!

I was going to do some car singing this morning but given the choice between that and sleeping a whole lot, I chose sleeping. We just got some new flannel sheets and oh the comfy.

That’s the kind of news you get when you read this bloggie… you learn about the new flannel sheets on our bed. Kick ass, dude!

Now, go and watch The Mandalorian while I do a little walking in place exercise and watch the new episode of That Pedal Show and think about all the cool reverb effects that I can’t do without spending hundreds of dollars. Also… is a Wampler Plexi Drive Mini a good alternative to the racism that an OCD pedal represents? Questions, babie. All the questions.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving/First Day of Christmas.

Found It!

Two nights ago I wrote about how my Apple AirPods charger case magically disappeared forever by diving out of my hand and flying under the bed where it escaped into Narnia never to be seen again.

Well that was then, and this is now….

Take that, infinite unknown.

HomePod Mini

I have an old Sonos speaker in my bedroom/office. I’m listening to an episode of the StarTalk Radio podcast through it as I type this. It’s too old to support Apple’s AirPlay so I have to use the Sonos App. It’s fine for the most part. I can run AppleMusic through it, but not Apple Podcasts. I had to setup Stitcher in order to play podcasts through the speaker.

The lack of AirPlay has meant that I have always wanted to upgrade to something newer so that I could just play my iPhone or my iPad directly through the speaker.

Along with the old Sonos speaker in the bedroom, we have additional Sonos speakers in the living room, and in the office proper. Our home theater system is all Sonos. Those are all newer models that support AirPlay.

We also have an Apple HomePod in the living room. It’s a great speaker, but more often than not the Sonos is the go-to when we want to play music through a speaker.

Yesterday Apple had their media event for the new iPhones. The iPhone 12 Pro Max looks awesome. That’s not what really caught my attention though. The standout to me was the new HomePod Mini. Not because of anything it does, but because of the price.

Given my interest in upgrading the speaker in the bedroom/office.. the original HomePod sells for about $300. The Sonos One runs for about $180, and the Move costs about $400.

The new HomePod Mini costs $99. That’s interesting. It does exactly what I want it to do, and it ties into my existing system, and it’s a lot cheaper than the alternatives.

Interesting………

Apple Watch Faces

On my first Apple Watch I made two watch faces. When I upgraded from Series One to Series Three I kept them and didn’t create anything new.

I only used the Mickey Mouse face when I was on vacation, or when I had nothing important going on.

Now that I have a Series Five I’ve been playing with new watch faces. So far I’ve put two together that I kinda like.

I’m not sure which one I prefer. I’ve got the blue one on now. I might switch to the white one.

So many options!

Really, Mickey is still the best.

Apple Watch Status

A few days ago, my love and I were discussing the status of our respective Apple Watches. Hers is a Series 4. Mine is a Series 3. Hers has more features, but mine has better battery life. I need the better battery because I wear my watch to sleep so I can’t recharge it over night.

We talked about the pros and cons of getting a series 5 when they come out.

Assuming they hadn’t come out yet.

Did you know they’ve already come out? I didn’t… until the one Jen bought just showed up at our door.

It’s synching to my iPhone now.

Gadget happy. Thank you for the surprise, Lovey!
