Greg the Bunny

We just introduced Harry to Greg the Bunny. A whole new universe of joyous stupidity and idiotic wonder has now opened to him.

We watched the first episode of the Fox show on the YouTubes . Brilliant. I then had to go and find the high water mark of all things Greg the Bunny.

This is far and away the funniest puppet performance in puppet history.

You may call me Blah, blah.

Fear the Terrible Writing

I didn’t watch Fear the Walking Dead live last night. I was too busy hanging with Jen and Harry. I just watched the cold open on the AMC website and…

…and…

I think this might be it. I think we’ve reached the point where the writing is so incredibly dumb that I can’t watch anymore. I’ll give it to the next commercial break but… yeah, this could be it.

Addendum: This wordpress theme capitalizes all of the characters in the post title. I typed this one in with the caps lock on and didn’t notice until I posted. Sorry, I just think that’s funny.

Addendum 2: Back from the first commercial break. Oh look, a character who was added to the show more than a full season ago who has had maybe two scenes in the years that followed is having a touching family moment. Question to the writers: What about this makes you think that we care? I literally forgot this character existed and now I’m supposed to have an emotional response to this? Want to know what that is called? It’s called bad writing.

Addendum 3: Back from another commercial break. Wait a minute… so the good guy that we all forgot even existed’s family member says that his group is a bunch of good guys but after three seconds alone in his room we find out that they are actually bad guys? Oh my. What a twist that wasn’t 100% predictable at all. Hashtag sarcasm. I literally saw this twist coming before the first scene ended. I mean that literally. The writing is just that good. Hashtag sarcasm.

Addendum 4: This is how the writing process works on this show. Let’s think of a bad ass visual. Okay, how bout a bunch of zeds hanging from the ceiling with their mouths sewn shut. Super bad ass. Now lets make the characters act in whatever manner it takes to manipulate the plot to make that scene happen, regardless of whether the characters’ actions make sense or not. Aaaaaaaand scene.

Nana Sitting Wrap Up

I’m still at my mother’s house. I’m not sure what time the change over is happening tonight, but it’s probably soon. Let’s wrap up what we accomplished.

Four meds deliveries, three today and one last night. Three loads of laundry. Three song ideas, all of which are in 7/8 time which is glorious. One movie, Joker. Holy shit was that good. Two episodes of The Handmaids Tale. Holy shit is that show good. An episode and a half of That Pedal Show mostly focusing on Uni-Vibe effects but also Harmonic Tremelo. Uni-Vibes are cool. Harmonic Tremolo is cool too, I guess, but I’m not really a tremolo guy… though the amp I’m recording with this month has one (volume based, not harmonic based) built in and I’ve been sort of looking for a place to use it. Three bags of recycling taken out. Three calls from Dad. The last couple of cans from the 12 pack of Diet Pepsi that I brought over last week finished. Sleep… not so much.

Is that everything? It’s all I can recall off the top of my head.

Almost Bed Time

The Red Sox lost, I did a load of laundry, my mother sat up for about an hour before going back to bed, I watched an episode of That Pedal Show that is making me want to go into cellar storage and find my cheap uni-vibe pedal, I wrote the music for another song that could possibly make good use of a cheap uni-vibe pedal, and the first episode of season four of The Handmaids Tale has some seriously dark shit in it.

I’ll be turning in soon. Here’s hoping my mother sleeps through the night. She was asleep when I got here. She woke up a couple of hours later thinking it was morning. I asked her if she wanted dinner as she was fishing out a package of instant oatmeal for breakfast. Hashtag, le sigh.

Prep for a Binge Watch

I’m Nana sitting at my parents’ house tonight. I just gave her dinner and her evening pills and we had a quick phone call with my dad. Dad seems okay tonight but Mom is having a rough day. I left my house at a couple of minutes past 6:00 tonight and I will be here until around dinner time tomorrow night. I’m trying to think of what I am going to do with my time while I’m here. The Red Sox are on right now and they just coughed up a lead to the Rangers in the third inning.

I’m thinking about some May music ideas. I’m doing the RPM Challenge record one song each month thing. In March I started five or six songs and then waited until the last minute to finish anything and as a result I only finished one. I have four more ready to mix but I haven’t gotten around to them. In April I started one song early in the month and then waited until the last week to do anything. I started a second song and that’s the only one of the two I finished. In May I am thinking of getting back onto the album-in-a-month bandwagon and seeing if I can crank out 10. No promises, but here we are on May 1st and I’ve already got one underway.

I could work on music while I’m here, but let’s be realistic. I’m probably going to watch TV on my iPad. I have one episode of The Flash to watch but I’ll wait on that one and watch it with Harry, if he wants. There are a couple of Supergirls to watch but I’m kinda not feeling it. (note: The Red Sox just tied the game at three in the top of the fourth inning) The fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale just started on Hulu and they released a few episodes on the first day, I need to watch those. I’m into the third season of a rewatch of Community so I could try some of those. There’s one other idea that popped into my head earlier today.

Harry was humming the theme from the second episode of WandaVision. Hmm… If I’m going to be here all day tomorrow, and the chances of me sleeping much tonight are somewhere between slim and none… might I be able to watch the entire season of WandaVision in one extended sitting? Nine episodes, roughly 30 minutes each… I might do it. If for no other reason then to hear the Agatha All Along song in context one more time.

It might happen.

Lunch Time

(Marvel spoilers in the second paragraph. You have been warned)

Just wrapping up my lunch break today. The clean up this morning went well. There are two places in our side yard that used to have crap piled up to the moon that now do not. One step closer to having a presentable yard. Sigh of relief, you know?

I’ve been listening to some podcasts today. It’s reassuring to know that my favorite Walking Dead podcast (The Walking Deadcast) is also completely fed up with Fear the Walking Dead. Sometimes it’s just helpful to know you aren’t alone. More important on the news front, I’m listening to TV Podcast Industry’s review of the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They opened up discussing the announcement (that I completely missed) that the follow up to season one will not be season two, it will be a Captain America movie. I think that sounds like a great idea. We knew that the follow up to WandaVision was going to be a movie, the next Dr Strange movie, so it is fitting they do the same for Uncle Sam. Will the Power Broker be the villain? Will it be Elaine Benes? Is Elaine Benes a bad guy or a good guy?

Just heard that my father had a good doctors appointment today. Good news.

Okay, back to work with you.

Lunch Break

It’s time for another lunch break blog post. Why? How the hell should I know?

If I don’t get a hair cut soon I am going to commit ritual suicide. I mean, I could just cut it myself but instead I would cut off my own head. That’s how bad it is now. I don’t think I can do it today. Tomorrow? Maybe? I wonder if the place I usual go to is taking walk-ins. I should look into that.

It was so good to see Bellana yesterday. She’s coming home in a few weeks but she won’t be staying too long. She’s got a crazy busy summer ahead of her and she needs to get right to it. Until then, we had an interesting conversation about how many of the kids shows she used to watch were written in such a way as to be appealing to adults as well. Spongebob, a few Disney Channel shows, stuff like that. We told her we were aware and that you could probably tell based on which shows we watched with them compared to the shows we would be in the room for without really getting into. She wondered why she and Harry never really got into any Nickelodeon shows. The answer? We didn’t like any of them so we steered them away. Ain’t we stinkers?

She also asked a question that Jen and I used to ask ourselves regularly. What the hell was the deal with The Misadventures of Flapkjack? I mean, that show was so twisted and bizarre… it’s as if all the drugs in the world went into the writing of that show. Seriously. The kid’s mentor had all of his limbs removed, and they all lived inside of a whale which was somehow also the kids’ mother, and candy was both currency and alcohol.

Sticking with television but moving back to the home front. Our epic rewatch of The Flash has some competition. Jen and Harry were looking for something funny and hit on Modern Family. How did that show run for 11 years? The kids from season one must all be middle aged and retired now (he said sarcastically because he is actually able to do math and 11+n does not necessarily equal retirement). Does the show stay funny for 11 years or does it eventually get old and run out of gas? Looks like we might find out.

I didn’t plan on writing an all television post, but here we are.

Work has been bonkers today. It’s been the kind of day that makes you want to go on vacation for a century or two. It’s okay. We shall overcome and all that.

I stayed at Mom’s house last night. I fell asleep on the couch at about 11:00pm. I woke up at 4:45 to noises coming from the kitchen. It was Mom. She was doing the dishes. Okay. In the immortal words of John Lennon, whatever gets you through the night.

I think I’ve run out of things to write about. Music. Tomorrow will be a car music morning. I only have one song ready to go, but that should be enough. Car music for the win.

Until then…

I need a nap.

Why Do I Still Care?

Fear the Walking Dead is on right now. Like, as in on actual live television.

I’m at my parents’ house tonight and I learned the hard way that the Verizon Fios app only streams live television when you’re on your account’s wifi network. Well that blows. The app wouldn’t work on my iPad, and the website wouldn’t work on my MacBook.

So I am watching it on my parents’ cable. Like, on an actual television rather than a computer pretending to be a television. It also means that starting about 8:51 I jumped through a ton of hoops in order to watch tonight’s episode. The real question I should be asking is why? Because… this show sucks.

Season three was pretty much perfect. Then they changed show runners. Season four was good to start with, but the second half was pretty bad. Season five was awful. Like, terrible. Like what the hell is going on here level rotten. The current season, season six, has been better but it’s still not even close to good.

Tonight’s episode, the third episode of season 6B which is probably supposed to be the second episode if not for Covid, started out with a call back to one of the dumbest things they did in the unwatchable fifth season. It’s just plain terrible… and I’m still watching.

Every week, I’m watching this idiotic insult to good writing.

Why?

What the hell is wrong with me? I could be binge watching Community on Netflix right now. I could be rewatching The Mandalorian. Hell, I could be binge re-watching all 10 seasons of The Walking Dead proper but I’m not. I’m watching this shit. I ask again, what the hell is wrong with me?
