Nothing

It’s been a quiet day. Not a lot going on. One issue at work that should have been wrapped up on Friday came back to us today (Tuesday) and was immediately taken care of. It should not have come back to us though. There was another issue that one of my staff members worked on over the last month or so. He wrapped it up nicely last week. We were talking about it yesterday and we were both a little sad that his hard work did not seem to rate a pat on the back or a thank you from the customer. It’s okay if they just move on with their lives, but this was a kind of issue where we thought a simple thank you would have been nice. Well, he got a thank you today. Thanks for the thanks, customer.

Most years at work I am part of two holiday celebrations. One is a big lunch with a yankee swap and the other is a smaller, quieter group lunch. The yankee swap happened today. The quieter group lunch happens tomorrow. Both of them take place in Foxborough, which is the office that is as far away as I am willing to go to. It could be worse. It could be Fall River. That building has been open for a decade or so and I have never been there. It’s just too far away. If I ever have the need to go there I will, but I am not going by choice and I will avoid it whenever I can. I’ve been lucky so far. Foxborough though… today and tomorrow. It’s okay. I’ll handle it. It’s only about 70 miles away. Yikes.

At the Yankee swap thing today there was a sign that said there are only 15 days left until xmas. You know… I wasn’t feeling a holiday crunch before I saw that… now? Oh yeah, I’m feeling the holiday crunch. Panic is setting in.

There is a new episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew coming out at 9pm tonight. Hopefully that will make me feel a little better. I’m still not 100% sold on the concept of Goonies in Space, but I am liking it so far. I’ve only seen two episodes. I am optimistic that tonight’s episode three will be good. The bad guys are Pirates. Arrrr, righty then.

What else can I write about? Nothing. I think I need to wrap this literary masterpiece and click that publish button. Okay, loyal readers… here it comes!

Snow

It is snowing today. The forecast called for 1-3 inches but we barely got anything. It stuck, but it wasn’t enough to cover the grass. I hate snow, but I can live with it today. Assuming, of course, that the “storm” didn’t just get delayed and we’re going to get the 1-3 inches later today. That would blow.

Hey, dig it, the Bruins won again. Nice. Granted they beat Chicago and Chicago isn’t what we’d call… good. I’ll take it though.

Today is Thursday. I have 90 minutes to go before I punch into work. I could be doing something creative or productive. Nope. I’m watching Better Call Saul. Season five, episode two. Half off for non-violent felonies.

Okay then, Robert. Let’s start this crappy day. Bring it on. Say no to snow.

Lunch Break

It’s Wednesday afternoon. My lunch break is coming to an end. If I were to sneak a post in before getting back to work, what would I write about?

I have no idea. My mind is a blank! So I guess we stream of consciousness this sucker? Ready… Go!

The Bruins beat the Red Wings last night. They play the Blackhawks tonight. Two teams that aren’t very good. Theoretically we should beat them both pretty easily. Last night they needed overtime to squeak out a win. Tonight? I’m almost afraid to watch.

If I could watch, that is. The NESN app is being a jerk. Well, I don’t know if it’s NESN or FiOS. I think it’s FiOS. It tells me I’m signed in, but when I try to watch something it tells me I’m not signed in and then won’t let me sign in. Maybe during tonight’s game I’ll pop in a single air pod and listen to the radio broadcast. I’m following each game but I am not listening to the goings on and I am starting to feel very much out of touch. I feel like I am too old and easily distracted to really give my full energy to a team that isn’t very good… lately they have been better but… yeah. They are currently in third place in the division so they are higher than a wild card seed for the playoffs. That’s good. Let’s keep it up, folks.

Current television binge watching projects:

  • Star Wars Skeleton Crew season 1
  • Silo season 2
  • What We Do in the Shadows season… 6? I think it’s 6. Only a couple more episodes before the series ends for good. All I can say is, BAT!
  • Better Call Saul season five. Two seasons left.
  • Gotham season 1. I hear it gets easier once you get past the first season. Here’s hoping that rumor is accurate. I want to watch this show but some of the episodes have been tough. Some of the acting is really bad. I don’t want to give any names because I am afraid Will Smith might slap me at the Oscars. Sorry. Just calling them as I see them.
  • Dark season 3. This one is a slog. I am having a really hard time getting through it, but I am determined to finish it.
  • Black Mirror. I don’t remember what season I am on, but I am having a hard time sticking with it.
  • Doctor Who, rewatching the last season to prep for this year’s xmas special.
  • The Walking Dead season 3. Rewatching along with the The ‘Cast of Us podcast. I fell behind by one week but I am caught up on both the show and the podcast now.

Seriously, does anyone really believe that Juan Soto is going to sign with the Red Sox? Seriously?

We are going to Vermont this weekend. I want to bring my new/ancient film camera but I can’t really see a time or place where I could use it. Maybe. We’ll see. I did order my first roll of 120 color film yesterday. It won’t be delivered until after we get back though. Oh well.

I have to buy a gift for our work yankee swap. It’s Tuesday. Holy crap that came up fast. Yikes.

Okay. Back to work, Robert.

Spoiler Free Review

Skeleton Crew… the first two episodes came out last night. I watched episode one last night and episode two this morning. Without spoilers, what did I think?

I don’t know. It was okay. It is definitely geared toward kids. If that’s a deal breaker for you then… well, you’re probably not a Star Wars fan because pretty much everything in Star Wars is geared toward kids (except for Andor, really… which has spoiled a lot of us).

Sure, we’re only two episodes in but it is so clearly a giant homage to The Goonies. It just keeps hitting you over the head with it. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just what is happening.

I liked it. I liked the opening pirate scene. I liked the location in the second episode. I’m curious about who/what/how Jude Law. My one beef is that there are too many shots that are totally lifted from the first movie. Other than that… I liked it. I didn’t adore it, but I did like it.

Episode three comes out next Tuesday. I’ll have more info then. For now?

HELL YES, NEW STAR WARS!

Skeleton Crew Cat

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are out! Disney+ released them seven minutes ago.

Robin is super psyched!

I fear that this one is going to be a little too kiddie for me. Andor being grown-up focused has spoiled me a little. The Acolyte was good but I hope that even with my unfounded fears Skeleton Crew will be better.

Even if it’s trash I am still going to love it. It’s Star Wars, after all. Am I right, or am I right?

Enjoy!

Done and Done

It’s 11:10pm. Very late at night for me. I’m trying to watch Deadpool and Wolverine on Disney+. I have about 40 minutes left to go but I am not going to make it. I have to go to sleep. I’ll watch the rest while I do my exercise in the morning.

I’ve needed to laugh out loud a bunch of times, but Jen was asleep and I didn’t want to wake her, so like a good Irish American stereotype I’ve been keeping my feelings buried down deep inside of me and keeping it all bottled up. Granted the stereotype I’m talking about applies to burying painful, negative feelings rather than laughter and happiness, but like all things on this blog, I needed to mold the expectations to fit my poorly written story. You know how it is.

G’night, everyone. See you all in the morning.

PS: What the hell is up with the tags field on the blog editor? It barely works right now. It started this afternoon and I’ve seen the problems on two machines using two different browsers. The cursor and my text just vanish in the middle of typing an entry. The fuck is up with that, wordpress.com? Let’s fix that particular bug, pronto. I have spoken. This is the way.

Penguin

I just watched the season finale of The Penguin. Eight episodes in Gotham City and only one teeny tiny reference to Batman. I actually enjoyed that piece of it. The season as a whole was excellent. Just a decent mob story, not a super hero or super villain story. If that’s your thing then I highly recommend the show, especially now that the whole season is out and you can binge it quickly.

Now what? I tried watching Gotham years ago. I think I got most of the way through the first season. I think I am going to try again and see how it goes. There’s a Penguin origin story on that show as well. It’s different than this new show, but it’s sort of an alternate universe kinda thing. Same characters, different but similar events. We’ll see.

Marvel Moment

I just watched the final episode of the first season of Agatha All Along on Disney+.

Now I need to go back and rewatch Wanda Vision to cement it all in context, and then I have to rewatch the whole season because HOLY SHIT!

How’s that for a spoiler free review?

Lunch Break

I am just about to wrap up my lunch break on this fine Tuesday-in-the-office. I have a few minutes before the next thing starts so I figured I’d come here and write something… anything…

Unfortunately, I have zero inspiration for any topics at all. Way to have an empty brain, Robert. Ugh.

So… here’s a topic. If the Dodgers win tonight they will complete the sweep of the Yankees and win the World Series. I freakin’ hate The Dodgers with the passion and fury of a thousand burning suns. Fortunately I hate the Yankees even more (with the passion and fury of a million, million burning suns) so that’s actually a good thing. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, watching the Yankees lose is fun for me. Watching them get humiliated by their (former) cross town rivals, The Dodgers, is even more fun. The only thing better would be watching them lose in humiliating fashion to The Red Sox… like they did in 2004. ‘Member that? Yeah, I ‘member!

What else I can I write about… hmmm… oh, here’s a quick topic worth mentioning. My step son, Harry, has been trying to get me to watch Better Call Saul for months now. He’s actually taking a class on the show at UVM and has been rewatching and loving the hell out of it. I told him I would start it this week, and last night I did. One episode down. Who knows how many to go. I did not see the twist at the end of that first episode coming, but when it happened I was all shit-eatin’-grins. I have to work episodes in around the shows that are currently airing, though most of my watch list is ending in the next week. There’s Daryl Dixon (which has been a little disappointing this season but this week’s penultimate season two episode was good) and The Penguin (which is excellent) and Only Murders in the Building (which is always fun) and Agatha All Along (which took a couple of weeks to suck me in but has turned out to be really good) and What We Do in the Shadows (which kicked off with three episodes last week, all of which were excellent). That’s a lot of TV. I’ll get to it all, somehow.

What else, what else… the Bruins have been pretty mediocre to start the season. They play Philly at home tonight and Philly has been pretty bad. Here’s hoping the offense wakes up. Also the defense. Also the goaltending. Yeah, it’s been a long first nine games here in Bruins nation. The same cannot be said for my old school, UMass Lowell. I actually saw a poll last night (I think it was US College Hockey Online’s poll but I’m not sure) that had them break into the top 20 teams in the country. They are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Hockey East. The spanked Merrimack College last weekend (that’s my brother’s old school. Sorry, John). I should pay closer attention to my alma matter. Did I spell alma matter correctly? Google tells me I did not. It’s alma mater. There. Better.

Okay, folks. Time to go join a conference call or two. Hope you’re all having a good Tuesday afternoon. I hope you all had a good lunch. Hang in there, folks. Talk to you later.

Monday

It’s Monday and I am not happy about it. I’m in the office today. Boo. I am dealing with a little lingering after effect of Friday’s stomach issues. I will not describe because it’s super TMI stuff and it’s not anything bad. I don’t feel sick, I just feel… uncomfortable. Other than that, everything is okay.

Well… everything is okay except that it is Monday and the weekend is over and that makes me sad. I did get to watch the new Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon show this morning while doing my jogging (pronounced “yogging”) in place this morning. I also spent a few minutes with my little dumbbell set… the way my doctor suggested I should… over a year ago… and I never do. How many times do you need to do something before it becomes a habit? Is it three? Is it three million? Curling that little dumbbell thing, that needs to become a habit.

Anyway, this Walking Dead fanboy/apologist enjoyed the new episode and is looking forward to next week.

I’m not sure where I am going with this post. I’m running a utility at work right now and just watching the numbers flip by on the screen and I’m writing this to fill up space while I wait for the utility to complete. That’s the point of this post. I guess. What was I talking about?

Here’s today’s photo a day thing:

30/365

I don’t know what else to write about now. Maybe I’ll come up with something at lunch. We’ll see.

I wish I was working from home today. Don’t we all?
