Browser Blues

A few years ago I went on a journey. A journey to find a new favorite web browser that wasn’t called chrome. I found one. It was… basically… ya know… chrome without actually being chrome. I settled on Vivaldi. I like it. I put it on my MacBook Pro, and my personal Windows desktop box, and my work laptop (just for personal stuff like my personal email and… ya know… this blog) and as soon as it was available I also put it on my iPhone and my iPad.

Yesterday the company I work for updated its list of approved applications and Vivaldi was not on it. Boo. In order to comply with the rules, I had to give it up on that machine. Firefox is on the list though, so I have brought that back for my personal use (while we all use Chrome for work use).

It is fine. No complaints about Firefox here it’s just… not the browser I want to use.

You know, it’s all fine and good and everything is okay and the universe isn’t spiraling down the drain and heading for the sewer. Yeah, that has nothing to do with web browsers it’s just… you know… blah. Boo.

Here’s a couple of pictures of a cat because even though the universe is collapsing into crap, cats are still fuzzy and cute and adorable.

New Stuff

So many software updates this week. I updated my MacOS and now I can run my iPhone from my MacBook. I am doing it right now. the Bruins are going to start about 10 minutes from now and I am listening to the pregame via the NHL iOS app but I am running it from my laptop. Cool. I can’t see myself doing this often… I mean, my iPhone is right next to me. I could be listening straight from the phone, easy enough. Whatever, new stuff is fun.

I am typing this on the Vivaldi browser. Vivaldi took an update this morning and the whole UI has been tweaked. Everything looks different. Does it look better? Eh. Who can say. Different but the same, I guess. It took about 20 seconds for me to get 100% used to the changes and more or less stop noticing them.

I took an update on my iPhone the other day too and now I have a dark mode that can change the app icons. Different, yes… better? Maybe. I like it. It doesn’t really amount to anything, but it’s fun. New stuff is fun.

Now if we could just get the Bruins to win an effing game. They are finally back home tonight but they are playing Dallas and The Stars are off to a good start. How about we get our shit together, eh Bruins? Tonight seems like a good night to start.

Vivaldi for iOS, At Last!

Finally! After ages of using Vivaldi as my browser of choice on my laptop, there is an iOS version of Vivaldi that I can use on my iPhone! I just installed it and synced it and now all the stuff I save off on my MacBook Pro should be available on my iPhone. Now I just have to put it onto my iPad. Thanks for the memories, Google Chrome for iOS but your day appears to have come to an end at last!

Vivaldi Notepad

I have been using the Vivaldi browser* on my Mac for quite a while now. No complaints. I like it. I feel better about the state of the world when I am not using Chrome. I said the same thing about Firefox when I stopped using that browser and started using Chrome. Now here we are again. It’s probably just a matter of time before I say it about Vivaldi too.

That’s not what we’re here to talk about though. What we’re here to talk about is the notepad app built into Vivaldi’s sidebar. I don’t use it often, but when I do it feels like it is a literal lifesaver.

How cool is that? I just thought you all should know. You’re welcome.

*Browser might be the one word that I typo the most. I usually type it browswer, but there are hundreds of other errors that work for me too.

The CPAP Helped

I went to bed a little before midnight last night with my alarm set for 6:00. I woke up before it went off and couldn’t fall back to sleep. I had the CPAP machine on the whole time. I figured it would help, but I was still a 6.5 foot tall guy sleeping on a two seater couch and looking like a full sized person living on dollhouse furniture. How do my sleep numbers look?

Five hours and 25 minutes of sleep.
83% of that being restful! Holy Crap, that percentage is gigantic for me!
32% Heart Rate Dip! Holy Crap, that percentage is gigantic for me!

So I guess using the machine was a good move, for last night at least. The only downside is that I had to wait an hour before I could pack it up because that’s how long it takes to upload all of the data to the server. I can deal with that.

For some reason, I cannot get to the wordpress.com editor on my Vivaldi browser on my work laptop. I can do it if I open a private window and re-log in, but I can’t get to it from the main window. Weird. Maybe I’ll try logging out and logging back in again.

Sunday night television… one of the infuriating things about hate watching Fear the Walking Dead is that every once in a while they put out an episode that doesn’t suck ass. Last night’s was okay, assuming you ignore the idiotic coincidence of that character meeting that other character out of the blue. For the most part it wasn’t so bad. I almost wish it had been terrible. It’s like Lucy and Charlie Brown and the football. Uh.. uh.. we’re getting good again… here it comes… we’re getting good agai… Nope. Back to the same old awful.

Okay, it’s Monday morning. I have to finish packing up the stuff I had out last night that I don’t need during work, get my mother her 8:00am pills, and punch into work.

Have a good one, folks. May your Monday not blow chunks.
