Now What?

It finally happened today. After over a year’s worth of effort the Great X-Files Rewatch Adventure finally came to an end.

I finished season 11. 11 seasons and two movies and the rewatch is complete.

Now what?

Part of me wants to go back to Star Trek. Jen and I started watching Voyager. I already rewatched Deep Space Nine. the original series and The Next Generation have both been rewatched numerous times in the past. Do I want to rewatch one of those again? Maybe. I don’t know. Enterprise? I don’t know. I was really not liking that show in the last year or so. Maybe I should give it another try?

Maybe I’ll poke around Netflix looking for some science fiction and if I don’t find anything that jumps out at me I’ll give Enterprise another look.

I’ll let you know.

Failure to Stick the Landing

The Great X-Files Rewatch Adventure has reached an important moment. Season nine episode 19. The first half of what was expected to be the series finale. Let’s ignore for the moment that they made a second movie a few years later, and then added two new seasons many years later. This was supposed to be it. A two part series finale.

And it was not good.

I mean, I remember it being okay but not nearly good enough. They had a chance to end it with a bang but instead they just failed to stick the landing. They failed to give the show the send off it deserved.

Now, in 2024, let’s see if it was as meh as I remember it. After that, I’ll watch the second movie for the first time since Jen and I saw it in the theater in 2008 (I think).

I Forgot!

There’s a new episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch today and I haven’t watched it yet! I forgot! What’s wrong with me? I am going to have to turn in my Star Wars Uber Nerd membership card after a failure like this.

While doing my faux jogging thing this morning I watched an episode of The X-Files instead of watching The Bad Batch. I am so sorry, oh my Star Wars overlord and master. I have let you down.

I am going to watch it now though. I just cut a sliver of sugar free chocolate cake to eat while I watch. We should all watch it together. I’d set up a watch party but that would take too long. Instead, everyone just go to Disney+ right now. Bring up season three episode 13 and hit play on the count of three.

Ready?

Five! (Three, sir) THREE!

Friday

It has been a pretty quiet day at work today (JINX!) apart from my brief stomach rebellion. I have 32 minutes to go until I can punch out for the day. I am starting to day dream about the weekend a little.

Music. I recorded a vocal track for one song on Thursday. I have a couple more songs that could do with some car music vocals. I have to practice for Sunday’s band rehearsal as well. I have nine songs to brush up on. I don’t know if we have a working PA system or not, but I did pick up a replacement for my dead Shure SM58 microphone. If our old, dinky little PA still works I’ll take it for a test drive. My Vox AC15 amp is in the rehearsal room along with my great big use-with-the-band pedal board. It’ll be nice to visit with my sweet RYRA The Klone overdrive pedal again.

I suddenly find myself in the middle of a whole bunch of TV shows. The X-Files epic rewatch continues, and we’re in season seven which means the quality is taking a steady nose dive. Uh oh. Only a few episodes to go until we reach the two season mostly-Mulder-free stretch. Yikes. I have a new episode of Star Trek Discovery (Disco) to watch. I have a new episode of Manhunt to watch. I have 6-7 episodes of Fallout left. I’ve watched the first two. I didn’t expect it to be so… goofy. I never played the video game so I really didn’t know what to expect. Silliness was not on my menu though. I like the show so far even though I don’t really know what’s happening yet. I’m caught up on Star Wars The Bad Batch. There are only a few more episodes left and I am thinking about rewatching the whole final season. I don’t know. There’s so much else to watch. I’m in the middle of Ripley on Netflix too. It’s pretty twisted. I never read the book or saw the movie so this one is all new to me too. I am enjoying it in a sick and twisted kinda way.

What else is going on? I am hoping to spend some quality time hanging out with my wife, of course. That’s the best part of the weekend. She mentioned she’s going to have to work a lot, which is a bummer, but we’ll make time. I hope to cook for her now and then. Lunches and maybe dinners? We use one of those dinner delivery service things. You know, where they send you all of the ingredients and a recipe with (somewhat) detailed instructions and you prepare the meal yourself. We are supposed to get a delivery today. I like it best when we cook those together. I find that both less stressful and generally enjoyable. Mostly. Some of them are still stressful even when we gang up on them. Does everyone think they are stressful or is it just us?

I did not promise myself that I would avoid the sugar free bakery in Salem, NH this week… so when I go out to do errands… yeah, I am probably going to buy some cookies there. I can stop any time, really. I promise I can stop any time. Totally.

Okay. 20 minutes until quitting time. I haven’t had anything to eat in two hours and 56 minutes and my stomach is starting to ask me why it’s empty. Three hours is usually how long it takes for my stomach to wake up after a meal. We’re pretty much right on target. Here’s hoping I don’t mess up with my snack on the drive home. A repeat of The Foamies… in the car… yeah, that would be annoying. I keep a spit up cup in the car, though I have never used it. Here’s hoping we keep the streak alive!

TMI?

Office Day

We are in our second week of having to come into the office twice per week instead of once. It’s Monday so here I am. At my desk. In the office. Monday feels like a really crappy day to come in, but I need to pick a day to go along with our usual Wednesdays and I don’t want to come in two days in a row and Monday just feels better than Friday so I’m here on Monday. I did Friday last week and the morning commute was all right both days. Friday had the benefit of having far, far fewer people around. Monday has the benefit of getting the second day out of the way really fast. I think we’ll stick with Mondays for now.

My step daughter is flying home tomorrow afternoon. I took the afternoon off so I can get her at the airport. I am thankful to have as much personal time available to me so that I can do stuff like this. It’s a good thing and it makes me happy.

I took a pic this morning. Nothing special but it’s a photo a day challenge kinda thing.

193/365
193/365

I need a haircut. Did I mention that? Do you care? No? That’s okay. I need a haircut anyway. Just sharing, or maybe just over sharing.

What else… I don’t know. I have a meeting in half an hour. That’s fun, right?

I watched the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (aka the Rick and Michonne show). It’s the weakest of the three so far (there are three more coming this season), but it was still pretty good. I am pleased with the season to this point but I am hoping the quality goes back up starting next week. No spoilers. If you like The Walking Dead, you should be watching. That is all.

Jen and I have been watching Star Trek: Lower Decks. I started watching Penny Dreadful the other day. I’m still plowing through The X-Files. I watched the first movie after finishing season five. Tomorrow morning I’ll start season six. I’m getting near to the point where Mulder leaves and that’s going to make it hard to power through. I’ll stick with it though. I promise.

Okay, back to work with you, Robert.

Cross Over Events

I’ve been working my way through The X-Files again. I am up to season four now. The last two episodes have had major cross overs with The Walking Dead. Who knew?

In 1996 Laurie Holden played a U.N. worker (who may be Mulder’s next informant?) on The X-Files. In 2010 she played Andrea on The Walking Dead. Unfortunately Andrea the comic character was a bad ass, awesome character while Andrea the T.V. character… not so much. Sorry.

In 1996 Pruitt Taylor Vince played a psycho wack-a-do on The X-Files in a freak of the week episode. In 2011 he made a pretty huge impact on The Walking Dead as Otis, even though he was only in two (or was it three?) episodes. First he accidentally shot someone important (oops) then he became a gigantic plot device to turn a good guy bad.

Will there be more connections to come? I wonder. There are still a ton of X-Files episodes to watch, and 11 years worth of The Walking Dead. There could be 100 more cross overs for all I know.

For All Mankind

Now that the epic Star Trek: Deep Space Nine rewatch is over I need a new show to binge. Jen and I are going to watch Star Trek: Voyager together. I had started an X-Files rewatch at the same time as Deep Space Nine and I intend to get back to it. I also started For All Mankind the other day. I am on season one episode six right now. There are four, 10 episode season. It’s pretty good, so far at least.

I also thought about giving Peaky Blinders another try. Jen and I watched the first couple of episodes a long time ago but stopped for some reason. Maybe it’s time to try again. Unfortunately it’s only available on the ad-free tier of Netflix. Figures. Jerks.

Anyway, here is a picture of Robin the cat. Just because.

More Television

I finished my bing re-watch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars today. Finally. Most of it was really good. Some of it… not good at all. Friggin’ Jar Jar. I’m not sure where to go next. The Bad Batch? Tales of the Jedi? Both at the same time? Go back to The X-Files and Deep Space 9?

Jen and I are watching Platonic on Apple TV. It’s really good. The Secret Skills scene though… do things like that happen in bars? I generally don’t go to bars because I don’t drink so I don’t know.

I also started watching Severance and Party Down a couple of weeks ago. I was in an Adam Scott mood for some reason and watched the first episode of both shows. I want to get back to them as well.

Television… it’s like the golden age and shit. There’s a new episode of Fear the Walking Dead that is going to air in about 20 minutes. That’s the opposite of the golden age. That’s garbage, but I am still going to watch it because I am a friggin’ idiot.

Ahsoka and Secret Invasion are both imminent. I needs me some new Star Wars and some new Marvel. Bring it on.

Binge Watchin’ Fool

My X-Files rewatch is in season three. Deep Space Nine is still in season two. Strange New Worlds is almost done. Before all of this started I rewatched The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. I recently rewatched Rebels. Over the last week I rewatched Andor (best Star Wars Disney+ show by miles and miles) and two nights ago I started rewatching Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I don’t want to stop with the two non-Star Wars shows, but I am really feeling the ol’ Galaxy Far Far Away vibes right now. Three more episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and I’ll be out of live action shows on Disney+. Does this mean I am going to have to watch The Clone Wars from start to finish? That would include both seasons of The Bad Batch as that is really just The Clone Wars part two, right? Clone Wars has episodes with Jar Jar though… do I really want to go through that again? On the other hand, it would be a good prep for Ahsoka, which comes out in August.

On an unrelated note, I restarted another thing from last year this morning. The Great Spider Hunt of 2023 is on like Donkey Kong. While running in place this morning (yogging) I saw a HUGE sucker crawling up the wall behind my desk. I removed him/her from the equation with extreme prejudice. I expect there to be hundreds more to follow over the next couple of seasons.

On another unrelated note I haven’t played my guitar yet this month. I have a bunch of little song ideas, mostly just riffs, in progress, but I only have one song form sketched out and I haven’t plugged the guitar in at all. I still haven’t played through the King of Tone pedal after 5+ years on the wait list. Sigh of frustration. I’ll figure it out.

Okay. Time to go shower and get ready for work. Happy Tuesday, said the ancient 52 year old.
