RPMarch is Finished!

March 2020 did what March 2014 failed to do.  It followed February’s RPM Challenge rules album-in-a-month with another RPM Challenge rules album-in-a-month.  In 2014 the March music wasn’t finished until May.  In 2020 it was finished with two days to spare, babie!  Got it in early!

Today I recorded three vocals, six lead guitars, and I mixed six songs.  I am so tired I can’t function.  Enjoy!

Risky Behavior

I did two crazy things this morning and it’s still not even time to punch in to work.

  1. I left the house
  2. I recorded myself singing

It was risky behavior, not because I left the house.  Sure, I left the house but I never left the car.  I never even cracked the windows.  No, it was risky behavior because the security guard working at the strip mall whose parking lot I was hiding in buzzed me twice in his mall security mobile.  If he had come over to me I would have had to explain what I was doing and boy would that have been embarrassing.  I’m glad I avoided that hassle.

March Music Update (a little one)

Just when you thought the March Music project goofiness was dead and buried…

I came up with something new last night. Just a few little riffs. I put them down on the iPad just before bed. This morning I added some guitars. That’s nine songs in progress and two more ideas that I haven’t made go anywhere yet. Tomorrow. More will be done tomorrow. Really. I promise.

Coffee is Gross

I took my laptop and a microphone to the kids’ karate tonight so that I could do some singing/writing in the car while waiting for the class to let out.  I drove over to the far side of the parking lot, set everything up, picked the song I wanted to work on, and started hiccuping.  Sing a line, hiccup.  Sing half a line, hiccup.  Sing a syllable, hiccup.  I couldn’t stand it anymore.

Bill Nye the Science Guy taught me that the way to get rid of hiccups is to take five quick sips of water.  That always works for me.  I didn’t have any water (nothing is worse than needing to take a leak while waiting outside in 17 degree weather) and the only drink available was an 11 hour old cup of dunkin donuts iced coffee.  Damn, I grabbed it and sipped it five times.

That was the single most disgusting moment of my life.  Never, ever, have I been that grossed out by anything.  I wanted to vomit.  I wanted to hurl.  I wanted to blow chunks all over the front of the car.

The hiccups stopped though, and I was able to get a whole vocal done on RPMarch01.  Granted, it’s awful and I’ll have to do it again, but I got it done for now.

RPMarch

So Robbie, what’s the deal? When you finished off your February recording project you said you were just going to keep going and do another one in March. You even came up with a clever stupid name for it, RPMarch.

So where are the constant updates that make us, your loyal readers want to claw our own eyes out?

Well here’s one.

I have bass and drum tracks set for five songs. There are a total of nine songs in the plans at this point. I need to come up with at least one more. I have four songs left over from the kids’ Christmas vacation, when I tried to write a few songs for a goofy EP idea. I have one idea that I had during February that I never got around to. I also have two outtakes from Things and Stuff that I want to see if I can salvage. Then there is one song that I came up with a couple of nights ago, and the one Tempest Fero song I want to add to the TF Redux collection. That’s nine. My goal is 10. So far so good.

There you have it. The RPMarch Day Six update. I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope you are pleased that I haven’t quit on this idea yet.

Yet.
