IKEA Explosion

I had one job today. Put together the day bed we got from IKEA.

It came to us in four boxes. None of them seemed terribly large but once I had all of the boxes open and the pieces separated it sure felt like a lot. The instruction book was only 2436612457 pages long. I think I am a little more than half way through it all but I am toast and will finish it after I sleep a lot and recover.

My stomach has been okay today outside of another one of those 3+ hour stomach aches. I finished lunch at 2:30 and at about 5:30 my stomach was hurting. Jen made a wonderful chicken and quinoa dish for dinner and it solved my problem. I have a long way to go to hit my 80 grams of protein goal though so I think I am going to go have a protein bar or something.

The season finale of Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is on tonight. I need to brush up on my French. Wish me luck.

Plans for the Fourth

Does anyone have any plans for the 4th of July? It’s a holiday in the United States tomorrow. Jen and I are both off of work. Independence Day. How are we going to celebrate?

I have no idea.

Jen and I both had a bit of a stomach bug yesterday. She still has it, though I think I’m in the clear now. If she’s still under the weather then I expect us to just sit in the living room flaking in glorious fashion. If she’s feeling better, will we do anything? The weather is supposed to be garbage so I don’t think we’ll be doing much of anything out doors. I’d like to have a mini-cookout or something but I’m not holding my breath.

We have been talking about driving to IKEA and getting some furniture to replace what Harry took to Vermont with him. We’re thinking of turning Harry’s room into a den/bedroom that we can use when he’s not here. When he is here, it’s his room. When he’s not it’s an alternate living room space. We’re thinking of a day bed. Maybe a little desk too? Maybe a comfy chair? We’re thinking of getting another comfy chair for the living room next to the fire place. We have that area marked as a reading nook. IKEA would be ideal for all of this. I just don’t know if our health will be up to it.

Other than that, I plan on doing the next 5k training run. 30 minutes of walk-for-a-minute/run-for-a-minute. I will also hopefully start working on this year’s fake 50/90 challenge. The challenge to write 50 songs in 90 days is real. The fake part is that I am done with the fiftyninety website. No more logging in there for me. Tomorrow is the first day for this challenge. If I were smart I’d write 50 songs tomorrow and then take 90 days to tinker with them. Yes, that was sarcasm.

The 4th of July, 2023 might just turn into a day. More like a plain old Sunday than a huge holiday. We’ll have to see how everyone’s stomach feels. Fingers crossed we can do something fun together. I choose to be optimistic and expect everything to work out fine.

IKEA

We went to IKEA tonight for absolutely no reason. Allow me to share some highlights…

It is a long drive, after all.

Enter, if you dare.

Comfy couch, but too deep for me.

My beloved Jennifer loves her some kitchen design.

This office chair may have accidentally come home with us.

And that, dear readers, is my Pointless Trip to IKEA photo essay. I hope you enjoyed it.

Tough Weekend

Going back to Friday, my mother went back into the hospital again, though she was discharged quickly. I put new blinds and curtains onto the dining room window. Saturday included a trip to IKEA at the crack of dawn and a whole entire day of assembling and hanging a big ass cabinet/counter thing in the kitchen. Sunday saw us putting another, smaller, piece of IKEA furniture together along with a little time at my parents place. My mother was having a tough time and I was able to help a little. At least I hope I was helpful.

I’m a big, fat, severely out of shape, hurtin’ red head today.

This week is going to be nuts too. We have some organizing in the kitchen to do before the contractor comes back for the next step in the project. By the weekend the kitchen should be wrapped up, but then I have to start looking to the cellar. We’re not entirely redoing the cellar, but we were talking about it while the contractor was here last week and he asked if he could give it a shot. Fine by me! He’s going to try and fix the floor first. That would be huge.

Also, work. Also, my second dietician appointment. I haven’t been the best at what I’m trying to do over the last two weeks. I need to straighten my dietary shit out.

Right. Off to work now. Have a good one, folks.

IKEA Can’t Defeat Us… Mostly

Yesterday was tough. We had one huge cabinet to put together and then hang on the wall. I was dead set against having us hang it ourselves because I knew the end result would look amateurish and Jen would be disappointed. When push came to shove though I said fuck it and we did it. Jen’s folks came over to help but something much more important came up and they had to go and take care of it. That left us flying solo and we got it done.

It took ALL DAY. We were up at 5:00am and we weren’t finished until after 7:00pm, but it’s done! We stood up to the IKEA challenge and we survived!

Except…

We have another big piece of furniture to work on today, and we are both seriously hurting after yesterday. My back and my legs are in really bad shape. Jen has a legitimate bad back, whereas mine is just me being fat, and she is in major pain. It hasn’t gone out on her though so we’re babying it as much as we can.

We’re going to start putting together today’s project. We may not finish it, but we’ll make a good dent.

Wish us luck in our battle against the Swedish* pre-fab menace.

*I couldn’t remember if IKEA was Swedish or Swiss so I Googled it. Apparently they are currently based in The Netherlands! Who knew? Bellana can go visit their headquarters!

Somehow

I did it. Somehow.

After a rough day all around followed by a difficult night with a lot of really bad back pain, I managed to get out of bed around 5:00am.

The IKEA pickup window is open and we are ready to head out.

It’s going to be a long and physically challenging day for your fat and out of shape narrator.

Come along for the bitching and the moaning. It’ll be fun.

Public

We dipped our toes into a non-locked down world. We went to a store. Not just any store but the biggest, roomiest, most social distance friendly store there is. We also went when we knew it would be as close to dead as it gets.

Still…

We went to IKEA.

Dig our crazy daring-do.
