Lessons

Daily writing prompt
Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

I’m late getting started this morning and I have a ton of things I want to do in a short amount of time so let’s make this one quick, m’kay?

The one thing I wish I had learned earlier in life is something that I am still trying to learn today. It’s simple. Don’t be afraid of everything. Don’t let fear run your life. So many things I didn’t do when I was young. So many things I missed out on just because I was a little afraid of them. If I have just let myself step out of my comfort zone, even a little bit, I would have experienced so many things. I don’t really believe that my life has lacked anything, I just let a lot of things slip past that would probably have turned into positive life events.

Stop being afraid, Robert. Let things happen and see how it goes. That’s what I would tell my younger self. I don’t know if it’s something I would pull off, but I would try to get that point across to my own dumb ass.

Zombies and Music

I’m still thinking about an album in a day challenge for tomorrow. I started working on the first song idea at 9:45 this evening. That means I have until 9:45 tomorrow night to finish about half an hour worth of music. It’s already feeling like a failure. I started too late to have enough ready to go for a car music in the morning. that means I’ll probably have to do a late morning car music and maybe an afternoon as well. That doesn’t seem likely.

Another roadblock was having to watch tonight’s new episode of The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon show. Did anyone else notice that the woman who played the nun who sets Daryl on his mission is the same woman who played Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter movies? I guess there are only so many French actresses around but still, she fought the Death Eaters so I bet she can take out zombies with the best of them.

Another impediment to the album in a day thing is the Doctor Who binge watch. I started season 12 tonight. That means I have finally reached the Tom Baker 4th Doctor era. He’s the Doctor I used to see on reruns on PBS back in the 80’s. He’s more or less the reason I wanted to binge watch the original show in the first place.

So I probably won’t finish a full album in a day, but I will add a lot of new stuff for the 50 songs in 90 days challenge. So it’s all good.

Back Home for Reals

We got home to Boston and that’s when the Covid test came back positive. We dropped our bags off at the house and then went to the doctor and then went to the pharmacy. It took hours. Finally by 4:45pm we got home to stay. We’re in quarantine land now and that’s a pain in the ass, but it’s also a good thing. We’re going to be living with Instacart and Amazon for a week or so. Doordash is bringing dinner as we speak.

We are back to 2020 lockdown again. I was really hoping we were done with this shit forever, but there you go. Get well soon, us.

Fav Foods

What are your favorite types of foods?

I’ve mentioned this before. In my post-gastric bypass world my food focus is on protein sources. Chicken, mostly, but also eggs and beef and various supplement type things. I just had lunch and it was just a protein bar.

Chicken might qualify for my current favorite, based on volume, but at the moment the true favorite is an example of me getting in touch with my Irish heritage via a silly stereotype. It’s potatoes. Anything potato based. Mashed, baked, French fries, home fries, hell even tater tots, which I never really liked much before. If it’s made out of a potato I’m loving it these days.

Another food in the running for current favorite is Ritz crackers. I feel like I’m regularly filling up my tiny new stomach pouch with them, though I suspect I’m really in it for the salt, and the crackers are just a salt delivery unit.

Also, a dark horse candidate is pizza. I don’t like tomatoes and I loath cheese (even the thought of cheese makes my skin crawl) but I do like cheese pizza. We’ve had it a couple of times over the last few weeks and each time has been basically heaven.

I was planning on having some chicken and either French fries or mashed potatoes for dinner tonight…. But maybe we will send out for some pizza.

The ‘Rona Rears it’s Ugly Head

We both knew it was coming, even though I would not admit it and will deny it for ever, but after two days of negative tests we had a positive Covid-19 test today. I’m still not going to say which of us is sick, but as of this moment it’s still just one of us. That will change soon enough, I’m sure.

We are hanging out at an urgent care parking lot waiting for them to tell us we can come inside. We are hoping for a prescription for paxlovid to help things along.

Wish our immune systems luck. Yippee.

Time Off Projects

We are about 200 miles from home. We’ll get there sometime tomorrow, probably in the mid-afternoon, after we drop off the rental car at the airport. We were originally coming home on Monday. I booked time off from work on Monday and Tuesday. Eventually the plans changed and we were booked to come home on Sunday but I never cancelled the Monday and Tuesday time off. Now that we’ll be getting home on Sunday, though not as planned, I want to come up with some projects to work on to have something creative and productive to do on those two days off.

The weather is going to suck on Monday, but be pretty good on Tuesday. I think I will try to pull off an album-in-a-day project on Monday. I’ll start it Sunday evening, I think, and then see if I can get 30 minutes of new music written and recorded by the same time on Monday. It will all count toward the 50 songs in 90 days challenge as well.I have only ever pulled off the album-in-a-day thing once. Maybe I can get it done again.

On Tuesday, if the weather is as good as predicted, I hope to do some photography stuff. Sunrise at the ocean, then a spot or two on top. Maybe this will finally be my morning in Boston? Who knows. After the photo-walk (whatever it ends up being) is done I’ll get back to 50/90 for the rest of the day.

Either that or I’ll just watch Doctor Who for the full two days off. We’ll have to see how it goes.
