More Car Tunes

I spent about 45-50 minutes in the movie theater parking lot recording vocals for November tunes. I had four songs ready to do and I only got to two of them. That’s okay. There is still a lot of November left.

There were a lot of cars around and people out for walks (at least until it started raining). It wasn’t quite as private as I like and I was distracted. Oh well. Maybe more over the weekend.

Pics!

Planning for the Morning

I left a lot of stuff unfinished when I ended this morning’s car music. Enough that I’ve sort of been planning on another go tomorrow too.

Tonight I added two songs to the ready-to-sing list. I’ve got the two re-recordings I didn’t get to today, and now I have two November songs too.

I think a Friday morning session is sort of a must, don’t you?

How I Spent My Day Off

Here’s what I did on my day off:

  • Car music
  • Sat at my computer watching Futurama on Hulu.
  • Ended today’s fast 90 minutes early
  • Played some guitar
  • Sat at my computer watching Futurama on Hulu.
  • Mixed a song.
  • Cooked dinner.

This list is accurate but it fails to emphasize just how much Futurama was watched.

I mean… I watched a shit-load of Futurama today.

Plans for Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and I have the day off. How should I spend the day?

Car music in the morning is a must. I have three November songs ready and three re-recordings ready too. There is zero chance I’ll get to them all, but I should be able to make a dent at least.

There are guitar parts to record too. Jen is working so I’ll try to work around her meetings schedule, but I’ll get some stuff down, definitely.

What else? Should I spontaneously drive to Vermont and take the kids to lunch again? No, but I wish!

I’ll think of some more stuff too, but this makes a decent start.

Rock on.

Ouch

I was just doing my walking-in-place exercise-like whatever it is. I felt a bit of a twinge in my left ankle.

Ouch, babie.

I’m okay, but for a minute there I was afraid my 30 minutes was going to get shut down at 20 minutes.

Here’s hoping this isn’t something that’s going to be a thing, you know?

Another Reason to Hate Autumn

It’s Autumn. Fall. I really don’t like Fall. I kinda hate it. Here’s one reason.

We caved in and had a landscaping team clean up our yard today. The main reason they were here was to fix and clean the rain gutters on our roof, but they also cleared the yard. Awesome.

Less than an hour after they left I looked out the window and it was literally raining leaves. It was the front of the house. We don’t have any trees in the front of the house. Two doors down from us they have a huge oak tree. The leaves were falling off that tree and the wind was blowing them all the way to our yard. At this rate, within a day or two you won’t be able to tell that our lawn was clear today.

Fall sucks.

One slightly related note. In our back yard the leaves fall off the trees in the woods and the wind blows them all right against the house. The yard itself is usually not too bad, but the base of the house is a leafy mountain. There are some windows along the foundation of the house but only one of them can actually be seen from the living space in the cellar, the rest are in the storage areas. After the landscape folks left, and at the start of my lunch break, I went down stairs to put some laundry on. I couldn’t believe how much light there was down there. Turns out that one window was free of leaves for the first time in a year and you could actually see through it. It was kinda cool. Of course, by the end of the week the window will be blocked again. Yippee.

New Porcupine Tree?

I thought Steven Wilson ended Porcupine Tree? They released a single today (I think it came out today at least) so I guess not. There is a little blurb on their website that implies this is not an outtake from a previous record. Cool!

I’m only a couple of minutes into it which is much further than I got into Steven Wilson’s last record which was just too awful to deal with (To the Bone was the first record of his I ever heard and I loved it, but I guess that turned off a lot of fans too?). My ears were insulted, but I still tip my hat to the guy for doing what he felt he needed to do. Maybe he made the god awful pop record knowing that a new Porcupine Tree record would follow it and that would earn his fan base’s forgiveness?

Too bad the PT album doesn’t come out until June. Eight months away. Oh well.

Light Bringer

Call me Light Bringer: Bringer of Light. Or lamp.

The floor lamp my parents took to the new place broke the other day. Tonight I went by the house, grabbed another floor lamp, and brought it to them. Now my father can read in his comfy chair at night again.

Success.
