Morning Fail

Guess what I didn’t get to this morning before work.

I managed to finish my daily exercise, watch this week’s new episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (excellent!), and finish the Library episode of Doctor Who that I started last night but fell asleep during the second episode.

No music though, so the morning goes down in the books as a failure.

Dogs or Cats

Daily writing prompt
Dogs or cats?

If you’ve visited this page before, you know the answer to this question already.

Before I was born my parents moved from Dorchester to Tewksbury. From the city to the suburbs, which from their point of view was sort of like the most rural place in the known universe. They were both under the impression that living in the country meant you had to have pets. They were wrong, but it took time to figure it out. They got a dog. It might have been two dogs. The experiments ended badly. I don’t know the details, but they got rid of them after a relatively short period of time.

At some point after I came into the picture with my curly red hair that magically straightened itself by the time I was old enough to go to school but seems to be coming back now that I am an old fart my mother’s little sister’s cat, Heidi, had kittens. One of those kittens came to live with us. Her name was Fluffy. Fluffy Puffy to be precise. Our house was on a busy state highway and it wasn’t long before our indoor cat got out and bought it while trying to cross the road. That was it as far as pets were concerned. Well, apart from some fish and a short lived hamster. I don’t have any memories of dogs but I do have some vague impressions of the cat. Just a weird image of me chasing it down the hallway.

From then on I have been a cat person, but it wasn’t until we bought our house in 2010 that I stopped being the guy who loved other people’s cats and started being someone who lived with cats.

Patches came first. We adopted her shortly after we moved into the new house.

Patches was literally, objectively, the best cat ever. We lost her to cancer a couple of days after Christmas last year.

Earlier this year we adopted Robin and Lily. We went to the MSPCA looking for two cats that were bonded together already. Lily is Robin’s kitten and in order to adopt one we had to adopt both. That was perfect, just like they are.

2023 50/90 Challenge Day 16/90

Not much to report today. I wrote lyrics and melody for two songs. They were song ideas number 7 and 20, to be precise.

I wanted to get more done but for the second night in a row I am having stomach issues from dinner. Last night was just a little uneasiness. It took a long, long time for it to pass but it wasn’t painful and I wasn’t nauseous. I was just… wrong. Tonight? Pain, nausea, the works. Damn it.

I hope to maybe get some guitar playing in tomorrow before work. I also think it might be time to start mixing a few of these things. I have three songs that are completely tracked right now and if things go well in the morning I might have one or two more. I should really start finishing these puppies off. The definition of a completed song is a decently mixed demo. I don’t have anything complete yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Office View

I worked in this building for a few years starting back in 2004. The view is pretty nice. Today was the first time I had been there since pre-Covid. I wouldn’t mind working in this building again except that we have two buildings that are a bit closer to home. This one is pretty far away.

Stressing

I am stressing out in a major way today. I’m in the office again (like every Wednesday) and I have meetings on top of meetings on top of meetings and even have to building hop for a couple of them. I’m sitting in the cafe trying to sneak in some lunch before the next meeting and I think I tried to eat too fast. My stomach is protesting a little. Hopefully I stopped in time or else I am going to have a really bad afternoon.

Wish me luck!

Time

Daily writing prompt
Which activities make you lose track of time?

There are a ton of things that I can get lost in and completely lose track of time.

  • Spending time with Jen. We used to call them flake days. We just plop down in the living room or something in the morning and just hang out and next thing you know it’s evening. I love that sort of thing.
  • Music. Playing music. Listening to music. Music for me is pretty much the ultimate time distorter. Hours can feel like minutes.
  • Television. Getting lost in a good TV show can cause me to lose track of time. That goes for movies too, but the real danger is binge watching a full series. I sit down thinking I’ll watch an episode or two and next thing you know I’ve watched an episode or five or six and half the day is gone.
  • Driving. This is a big one for me. I love to drive. I love to drive long distances. I love to just get lost on the highway, both figuratively and literally. Just point myself in a direction and see where I end up and when I end up there. Fortunately Jen feels the same way. There have been many a time where we have been hours away from home and still decide to take the longest route imaginable. If the longest route isn’t long enough then we take an extra circuitous route and make it longer.

There are probably a hundred or so more things I could say that are just as important and just as valid, but these are the ones that immediately spring to mind. What can I say, I enjoy losing track of time and I am pretty good at it.

2023 50/90 Challenge Day 15/90

As we start week three of the 50/90 challenge, let’s sum up day 15.

I had hoped for more, but I cannot complain. I put vocals on three songs this morning. Later, at lunch time, I came up with song idea number 20 and worked out the song form. It is embarrassingly simple, but it will be okay. No melody yet, just bass and drums with a midi guitar track to act as a place holder until I can put a real guitar or two down.

I updated the works in progress playlist but you’ll have to scroll down to find the last time I posted it. I don’t want to repost it every time, just once in a while.

Not sure if I will have any time to work on anything tomorrow. We’ll see. Fingers crossed and all that.

More Indictments Coming?

Trump went on his nazi social network today to tell us that he may be getting another indictment soon. This time for his actions on January 6, 2021.

Good.

Also, finally.

That’s what you get when you try to overthrow my country’s legally elected democratic government. I hope they throw him in jail for the rest of his life.

Granted, as much fun as all of these indictments are (this would make it three, and Georgia may soon make it four), I think the fun is wearing off. I think now what we need is some convictions. Especially convictions that are paired with long prison sentences.

Nazi filth like trump belong rotting in jail.
