Morning Music

It’s 9:00am on Thursday. I am punched into work, starting the day for reals. What did I do before work? Besides my morning exercise, breakfast, a shower, and a kiss for my wife as she left for the office for the day?

I played some guitar. I put rhythm guitars onto two songs and lead guitars onto two other songs. I have a metric ton of stuff left to do by the end of next month, but we’re picking away at it and a little progress was made. Sigh of relief, babie!

My Name

Daily writing prompt
Where did your name come from?

Yeah… On July 28th the daily writing prompt asked where your nickname comes from. I don’t have a nickname so my response included explaining where my name comes from.

So yeah… I have literally done this one already. Oh well.

My parents were expecting their second child. The first was a girl named Lisa. For their second child, I don’t know what the chosen female name would have been. The male name was my father’s name. Robert James. That second child was a boy… me. 52 years later, my father and I are still both named Robert James. He goes by Bob. I go by Rob.

And that, friends, neighbors, and loyal readers, is that story.

Again.

2023 50/90 Challenge Day 51 of 90

Minimal progress today. I added one song (number 35) to the pipeline. It is just MIDI bass and MIDI drums for now. I’m working from home tomorrow so I am hoping to share more substantial result tomorrow.

Fingers crossed.

Evening Commute

I got a snap or two of the accident on route 128 North. I was stuck behind it in the gridlock it caused. I didn’t get a pic of the accident on route 495 South as it was in the other direction and I didn’t slow down, thankfully. The backup behind it was massive beyond words though.

Photo a Day

Yeah, I think I am going to give up on the little 2008 Casio point and shoot.

It took about five tries to auto-focus on the sky. Like… how much more light do you need? I want to get something new, but there aren’t a lot of pocket sized options anymore and they are way more expensive then they should be in the days of the iPhone. I don’t want to go back to doing all of this on my iPhone but I think we’re heading in that direction. Shit.

Why do I not want to use my iPhone? Snobbery. That’s all. What can you do?

Fortunately my guitar is still out of the case from when I played it the other day. I was able to sneak a couple of super narrow depth of field pics in before I left the house this morning and one of those will be my 357th photo a day pic for this round of 365 days.

Motivation

Daily writing prompt
What motivates you?

I have no idea how to answer this question. Also, I am running late this morning so I don’t have any time to spend thinking about it. You’re just getting a gut reaction post today. Sorry.

My main motivation for pretty much everything is my family. I do what I can with the primary purpose of helping Jen and the Kids. Helping however they need help. Making them happy, making them secure, making their lives slightly easier by doing things so they don’t have to do them themselves. That sort of thing.

Outside of family, the motivation at work is the pay check that comes at the end of the month. That’s pretty standard and straightforward, right? I also am motivated to make things easier for my staff, and to make them look good to upper management. That sort of thing. Whatever I can do to help.

There’s also the creative motivation that pushes me to keep making bad music and bad photos. I am not sure what the purpose behind all of that is beyond my own mental health. Some sort of creative outlet makes me feel better about the world around me. It’s hard to stress about nazis in your neighborhood when you’re playing guitar at a gratuitous volume, you know?

Those are the main ideas, I think. Now I have to publish this so I can finish getting ready for work and get out the door to the office in time to sit in an hour and a half worth of gridlock. Yippee.

2023 50/90 Challenge Day 50 of 90

Yesterday I had one song that was just a few bass riffs and no structure. Today I worked out a structure for that song and added two more. All three are just bass and drums for now but they are ready for rhythm guitars. I am working in the office tomorrow so I probably won’t have time to get to too much guitar playing but I am hoping I can maybe come up with a couple of lyrics/melodies and maybe be able to do some car vocals the day after tomorrow. That’s the plan at least.

I’m up to 34 songs in progress now. If the challenge runs for three months, that means I have to average 17 songs per month. With a week or so left in the second month, I am sort of on that 17 songs per month pace… sort of. Maybe. I have so much more to do though.
