2.5 Hours to Go

I just punched out of work. The weekend is here. The car is all ready for the drive to Vermont in the morning. Dinner is being prepped. There will likely be an episode or two of the great Schitt’s Creek binge re-watch.

Then around 8:00pm. More like 8:08 or so. The Boston Red Sox. The Heroic, Majestic, Team of Destiny, Boston Red Sox will come up to the plate to start game six of the ALCS.

Will they be triumphant?

Damn… I hope so. I don’t want this playoff run to end.

Go Red Sox!

Whistlegate

I have done a teeny tiny bit more than zero research into Whistlegate. I know what it is, but I haven’t watched any video. My hunch is it’s nothing. However, my assumption is that Houston is cheating somehow. I doubt it’s this thing, but there is probably something. My further assumption is that Boston, Los Angeles, and Atlanta are also cheating. My farther further assumption is that every single team in all of pro sports is cheating in one manner or another. There’s just too much money at stake not to give in to evil.

For future reference, here is a link to a story that has all sorts of video clips related to Whistlegate.

Now if we can just call it something other than Whistlegate because enough already with the *gate labels. Uncle.

Nope, Not Today

No car music today. I was up early enough that I might have pulled it off, but I would have been cutting it close to the start of the work day and I just punted. I can’t do it tomorrow because tomorrow is take three of our visit to Vermont. Sunday it is. Or, as the old commercials for monster truck shows used to say:

SUNDAY
SUNDAY
SUNDAY!

…or something like that.

The Braves failed to eliminate the Dodgers last night. Here’s hoping the American League has a similar story after tonight’s game. Houston is up 3-2 over the majestic Red Sox. Games six and seven are in Houston. Given the last two games, I am thinking my home town team needs a bit of a miracle. Two of them. One tonight in game six, one tomorrow in game seven. Yikes. There’s not a lot of optimism around here. Not even the cautious kind.

We need to be in Burlington tomorrow a couple of hours before lunch. That means we have to get up super early. That means I don’t think I’ll be listening or watching the game for very long tonight. That being said, I require the Red Sox to jump out to a 30 run lead in the first inning. That’s probably enough to hope they can hold it. Maybe 40 runs would be better, but let’s shoot for 30, m’kay? I’ll settle for a 1-0 win, of course, but I want to be able to feel comfortable going to sleep early. Can you do that for me, Red Sox? Here’s hoping.

Happy Friday. Hype up for game six, if you can.

Not Fun

I stopped listening to the game in the sixth or seventh inning. I just couldn’t deal. I was so psyched yesterday morning and just crushed, sports fan-ily speaking, tonight. I still have a gamecast up on my computer even though I am not listening or watching anymore. Houston just scored twice in the top of the ninth to pad the lead to 9-1.

Oh, and the Bruins are down 2-1 after one period. Oh fer crying out loud.

One out in the bottom of the ninth.

The Bruins are now down 3-1.

Two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Three outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Game over.

The Astros are up three games to two with game six in Houston on Friday.

Shit.

Splash

That sound you are hearing is all of Red Sox Nation catapulting themselves into the Charles river out of depression and anguish as the Astros score five runs in the top of the sixth.

6-0 Astros. I think. It may be more. I can’t hear the radio over the roar of everyone crying and throwing temper tantrums and just giving up on everything they hold dear in their lives.

Patches Needs the Bats to Wake Up

The Red Sox are hitless through four. They are coming up in the bottom of the fifth now. Patches has a good feeling that this is the inning the bats wake up.

They are trailing 1-0 in a game they have to win.

Come on Red Sox.

Game On for Game Five

Both teams went down in order in the first inning. The first Houston hitter in the second put it over the left field wall. That sound you hear is your humble narrator panicking. Sale got us out of the inning with a couple of strike outs and now the suddenly cold looking Boston offense is coming up.

Really need a win today. Really need a win.

Radio Silence

My last post last night was heading into the ninth inning. After that… silence. I wonder why?

Hang on, I just drove onto the Tobin Bridge. I need to pull over so I can join the throngs of Red Sox fans hurling themselves off.

The Astros scored seven runs in the top of the ninth. I went to bed after five. There was no bottom of the ninth walk off heroics from the Red Sox to be had. A little part of me was hoping that when I woke up today I would check the MLB app and see a miracle. Nah.

Yesterday I started the day by listening to a bunch of local sports radio coverage and the general consensus was that the series was over, Houston was toast. One talking head actually tried to start the discussion of who would we rather face in the World Series. I don’t think I was that far off the deep end, but I was pretty far. I kept having to remind myself that it was only game three and we were only up one game.

If you know anything about Boston sports fandom (and I hope this pertains to other regions too because I don’t want to be the only city whose people are this nuts) our mental state is based only on the last game. Game three was a huge victory and we were planning the parade. Game four was a painful loss and we are all jumping off that bridge and putting ourselves out of our misery (figuratively speaking, of course).

Game five is today at 5:00pm-ish. Even with the standard four hour FOX coverage, I should be able to catch the whole thing. I wanted to listen through to the end last night but that ninth inning rally… I just couldn’t deal. Close games like that are stressful, but once the Astros broke it open I was just done.

Okay kids, it’s time to go to work. We’re roughly 8.5 hours away from the first pitch of game five. My kingdom for a lot of Boston grand slams.

Heading to the Ninth

The game is tied at two heading into the top of the ninth. Houston tied it with a solo home run in the eighth. The Red Sox have left 984632 runners on base so far.

Sincerely hoping for a walk off, but we have to get three outs first. Come on Red Sox!

Five Innings Down

At least I’ve stayed awake longer than I did yesterday. One full inning and counting.

After five innings the Red Sox are still hanging on to a 2-1 lead over the Astros. Similar to game one, the Sox are leaving a lot of runners on base. We need a little more clutch. We can’t let Houston hang in close.
