In the Office

For the third time this month, I am in the office. I hit a little bit of traffic on route 93 South before I even got out of town, but after that it was mostly smooth sailing. Mostly.

I had said that the kitchen redesign was done as far as outside help was concerned, but we came in under budget and decided to do another small thing or two. We’re still waiting on the pre-fab furniture deliveries and the big stuff isn’t coming until next week. Jen and I will put together whatever we have over the weekend and try to keep our wits about us while waiting for the rest.

So far everything looks great. We are both really thrilled. I keep saying this to anyone who will listen, but when we moved into the house in 2010 I said the first thing we needed to upgrade was the walls in the dining room and the kitchen. The paneling and the wallpaper border had to go. 12 years, a redone bathroom, and a garage turned into a bedroom suite, not to mention new furniture and floor plans in literally every room in the house, and we finally get to the paneling and the wallpaper border. I gotta say, it feels great.

I managed to watch Star Trek Picard last night so you can feel free to discuss it with me in a spoiler-heavy manner. I mean, Picard is Q’s father? Who knew!?

Don’t Spoil Me

I could have watched the new episode of Star Trek Picard this morning but I chose to do other things, like clean up some of the stuff that was displaced for the kitchen/dining room fix up. We had these huge ass canvas tarps covering the furniture. That had to go somewhere. There are so many cardboard boxes everywhere from ordering new pre-fab stuff.

I took some time to straighten a couple of little places up. That’s why you can’t tell me what happened in Star Trek Picard season two episode four. I expect I’ll get to it before I sleep tonight though so it won’t be too long before you can talk to me about all of it.

The last contractor is here. Hopefully we’re just minutes away from having a kitchen again. I hope so because not having a dishwasher or a kitchen sink has been a kick in the nads, I tells ya.

That’s Better

Wednesday night’s awful sleep combined with a tough day at work combined with the Covid stress of going to the office left me a bit of a mess last night. I managed to pull off the rest of the exercise ring but I’m not exactly sure how. I was toast.

Last night’s sleep was better. I went to bed around 10:30. I woke up a little after 4:00 to go to the bathroom and my watch didn’t register any sleep after that. I know I slept more but maybe it was really light? I don’t know. What my watch did register was almost all restful sleep including one stretch that lasted over an hour. I don’t feel great this morning, but I do feel better than I did yesterday.

Bad sleep blows.

The contractor we’ve had working on the kitchen and dining room expects to finish the painting tonight. I am so happy with the way it’s going. It looks great so far. He’ll have to come back next week for the finishing work but that’s a-ok with me.

For me right now, Star Trek Picard season two episode three. I have about 10 minutes to go. Good stuff so far.

Non-Lunch Post

We’re coming to the end of another work day spent in the office. How many more will there be at this desk? I don’t know. A few, probably.

It’s been a hectic and stressed out day. I’m not sure how, but I managed to do everything right as far as the weight loss surgery prep steps are concerned. I’m up to date on my vitamins (still have one more to take with dinner), and I tracked all of my food, and I stopped drinking more than 15 minutes before eating, and I didn’t drink again for over an hour after eating.

My exercise ring is half closed. That’s due to the long walk from the car to my desk, and the long walk from my desk to the kitchenette and back, and the long walk from my desk to the bathroom and back. I think wearing a mask contributes to the increased heart rate as well, but I don’t have proof of that.

The building recently switched from masks required in all common areas to masks optional for vaccinated folks. I think it’s too soon for that, but I have to deal with it. My mask was on in all common areas but I was in the minority. Will peer pressure eventually remove my mask? I don’t think so but I can’t say for sure. The Covid numbers are way down for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I would like to take approximately 1/6,893,000th of the credit for that. At least that much. I kept my mask on and kept those around me safe from the virus that I don’t have. That’s not sarcasm. That’s honesty. Wear your effing mask.

Anyway, I was able to eat lunch today, but I was not really able to take a lunch break. That’s why there’s no lunch post from today, and that’s why I titled this post the way I did.

I might look into a new theme for this page. It might be time. Maybe something black and gloomy. Yeah, that would be cool. Black and gloomy is tight.

Now I need to get my exhausted ass home so I can eat dinner with the love of my life, check out how far the paint job got while I was out, watch the new episode of Star Trek Picard, and then finally get some of that sleep that I didn’t get any of last night.

Almost quittin’ time, babie!

Pre-Work Shopping

I just spent some time on Amazon selling my soul to the bezos–devil. I need to take a slew of vitamins for the weight loss surgery. I ordered a big pile of them. I also have to take protein shakes. I ordered a ton of it. I need to start weighing my food. I bought a food scale.

I’m freakin’ out, man. I can do this, but I am going to freak out through the whole thing.

I did another important thing. I signed up for Paramount+. Why? Star Trek: Picard comes back for season two tomorrow and I am there. It’s time to find out what Q has been up to all this time.

Fun.

Fanboy Weekend

The last two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett have been so good that I have had Star Wars on the brain for days. This weekend, while I should have been doing more productive things, I have watched the whole sequel trilogy. I didn’t mean to. I was just in that mood, you know? On Friday night I just went over to the Disney+ and popped on Rise of Skywalker. It turned my nerd up to 11. Yesterday I did the same with The Last Jedi. A little while ago I put on The Force Awakens. It’s on right now. FN2187 just got chewed out by Captain Phasma.

So yeah, I watched them in reverse order. So what? You wanna make something out of it?

The Book of Boba Fett ends on Wednesday. Then what? Star Trek Picard comes back in early March. The next Marvel series comes out in late March, I think. When do the zombies come back? Oh Google? The second part of the three part 11th season of The Walking Dead comes back on February 20th. So why not watch me some Star Wars, even if it is in reverse order? Maybe next weekend I’ll start a Marvel rewatch. It probably won’t be in reverse order though.

Think I can blow through the whole MCU in one weekend?

Picard Season 2

I almost missed this one. The trailer for season 2 of Star Trek Picard.

To all the people losing their shit, Q looks older because he wants to look older, m’kay? That’s why Q looks older. Right, now let’s move on.

Still no release date other than 2022, which seems ridiculous until you realize that 2022 is only six months away.

Crud.

Prep Work for Picard Episode One

The powers that be behind the scenes of the new Star Trek Picard claim that this show will not be Star Trek The Next Generation The Next Generation.  It’s going to be its own independent thing.  I can see where they are coming from with that, but at the same time it’s a character that existed through seven seasons of broadcast TV and four feature length movies.  He also made cameos in a couple of other Star Trek series as well.  In other words, the dude has history.

In post from a couple of days ago I mentioned that there are a few newly released items that serve as a sort of prequel to the new show.  There is the comic book series (two of three have been issued so far) called Star Trek Picard – Countdown, and there is an 8-9 minute episode of Star Trek Short Treks called Children of Mars.

Now that we have episode one of Picard we can look back to a few more things that could serve as prep work for the new series.  Two Next Generation Episodes and one movie.

First, there is an episode called The Measure of a Man, season two episode nine.  In this episode Commander Data is effectively put on trial to determine if Star Fleet should give him the same rights afforded to a life form, or if he should be considered property.

Second is an episode called The Offspring, season three episode 16, in which a bunch of punk rockers need to keep them separated even though they are pretty fly for a white guy.  No, that was a crappy band.  In the episode, Commander Data tries to create a child.

Finally, there are connections in the new episode to the final Next Generation movie, Nemesis.  In that movie Data does a ton of stuff and there are lots of Romulans.  It’s also the movie that was meh enough to pretty much kill the franchise in its tracks.  I think I have only seen it once and if my memory serves it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either.

While it is nerdishly awesome to be able to connect the dots between the old show and the new show like this, you don’t actually need to see any of the old stuff to follow what’s happening in the new stuff.  Picard episode one will give you any information you need from the old stories so you aren’t missing out on anything.

Still, if there is one thing Star Trek is good at, it is building up the universe.  This is just more evidence of that.

Now, given that my last 2300 posts have all dealt at least in part with the new show, you might have pieced together the fact that I am really, really excited about this.  Almost as excited as I was for Star Wars episode IX, though nothing will ever touch the hype I felt for that.  Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to episode two next week.

I’ve Seen It, Carry On

Okay everyone, I have seen the first episode of Star Trek Picard.  You don’t have to worry about spoilers around me anymore, I am up to speed.

How was it?  Episode one is better than episode one of The Manalorian.  It’s not even close.  I am completely, 100%, totally hooked.  Give me the next episode right now.

Right.  Now.

On an unrelated note, the NHL All Stars Skills Competition is on the tube right now.  In all my years of following hockey there has never been an all star game that wasn’t stupid.  When they started doing the skills competition is was a breath of fresh air.  The players clearly loved it, it was fun, it was exciting, it was infinitely better than the stupid all star game itself.

I haven’t watched a skills competition in a few years.  When did this become even more boring than the game?  I mean this thing is oppressively boring.  It is soul crushingly, disturbingly, boring.  The 3-on-3 women’s game is just starting and that should kick things up a notch, but the skills competition itself is just awful.  It is maximum snooze.
