It’s Almost September

Tomorrow is the last day of August. That means two of my daily projects are about to come to an end… sort of.

On September 1, 2019 I started a photo a day thing on Flickr. I successfully completed it on August 31, 2020. On September 1, 2020 I started again and finished successfully on August 31, 2021. Can you guess what happened on September 1, 2021? You guessed it. I started another 365 project. It ends tomorrow. The Flickr album has 364 pictures in it. Tomorrow it will have a full year. Exciting, eh? I wonder what is going to happen on September 1st?

I also started two selfie a day things on September 1, 2021. I found two apps that did it and couldn’t decide which one to go with so I started two. On May 4, 2022 I stopped one of them and restarted it with the post-surgery theme. You’ll see the results of that on May 4, 2023. The other one is still going, though I have missed a number of days along the way. There are 351 photos in it right now. 352 will be tomorrow and that will be it. I’ll make a video out of it and post it and never think of it again.

Or will I?

I’m thinking that on September 1st I’ll delete all of the photos from before May 4, 2022 and turn it into another post-surgery thing. The current post-surgery thing is all photos taken in the door mirror in our bathroom. You can see my entire 6’4″. The one that ends tomorrow is just my face. It might be fun to have a full year of face to go along with the full year of gut. I think I’ll do that.

Also on September 1st (which is Thursday, two days from now if you’re curious) I am planning to start working on some new music. There will be an album in a month to make myself feel better about not playing very much and almost completely blowing off 50/90. I’m planning on using RPM Challenge rules that define an album as 10 songs or 35 minutes, and I am thinking of doing a double album as sort of penance for the 50/90 thing.

And that is the plan for September. How exciting!

Photo a Day Weirdness

So I am not doing a third consecutive photo a day thing on Flickr. Nope. I am not two months away from completing a third year with at least one photo taken every single day without exception. Nope. Not doing it.

The film thing makes it weird. I took like 15 pictures today that will not get to Flickr for weeks at least, and will not even have exif data with the dates embedded into the file and the camera and lens used and the aperture and ISO and shutter speed. They are going to be just like… pictures… only. How strange is that? I am going to have to remember which cameras shot which images and which lenses they used. Well, the Nikon only has one lens but the Pentax has two.

So weird.

Fail Averted

I’m not doing a photo a day thing. I did one from September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020.

Success.

It’s just that once I finished I kinda forgot to stop. So from September 1, 2020 through April 11, 2021 I had a photo each day. Crazy.

When I woke up on the 13th I realized that I forgot to take a picture on the 12th. Fail. It’s okay because I am not actually doing a photo a day.

A few minutes ago I opened up Flickr and watched the last couple of days worth of pics upload. Much to my surprise there were two from the 12th. I took ‘em and forgot about ‘em. So I’m still on track for the photo a day I’m not actually doing. Cool!

The picture I took and forgot about was of a little gift an instacart shopper left for us. Thanks for keeping me on track!

The Weeds are Taking Over

Look at the size of this sucker!

I dug out the weed whacker from the mess that is our cellar, specifically to deal with this behemoth.

Oh yeah, and for the record, this little pic…..

Officially marks the 366th and final picture in my Flickr Photo a Day Challenge! Every day from September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020 had at least one new picture.

Sweet Christmas, Robbie needs a nap!

Photo a Day

This little stinker right here is photo number 351 of 365…

351/365

That’s incorrect though. It should be 351 of 366. I’ve been labeling all of these things as x/365 because when I started on September 1, 2019 I completely forgot to account for 2020 being a leap year. So instead x/365 should have been x/366 from day one.

Once I realized that I was using the wrong label I thought… ah, screw it. I just kept on doing it wrong. So instead of labeling things correctly, I am just going to go an extra day and have the last post be 366/365. Who said any of this crap needed to make sense.

Of course, I am 100% positive that I just jinxed myself and even though there are only 15 days left I am guaranteed to blow it. Like the moron that I am.

Photo Booth?

Patches was laying down on my desk.  I thought it was a good candidate for today’s photo-a-day.  Unfortunately she was sitting on my phone, and my Nikon was not quickly accessible.  What can I do?

Well, I have a webcam on my laptop.  Could I use that?  I did a Spotlight Search for camera and webcam but they didn’t turn up anything useful.  I checked Launchpad to see if there was a camera app of some kind.  That’s when I saw it.

Photo Booth?

Is that still a thing?  I popped it open and sure enough, it’s still a thing.  I angled my lappy to face the cat and BANG, photo acquired.  I opened it up in Photos to clean it up a little and, as always, was a tiny bit saddened by the lack of groovy filters.  I messed around with it a tiny bit and then clicked the export button to see what my options were.  It used to be able to connect to Flickr, but not any more.  I clicked the “more” option at the bottom of the drop down and saw something I never noticed before.

Extensions?  In Photos?  Huh.

There were no options available but I wasn’t ready to let it go so I did something I never do… I went to the Mac App Store.  I searched for Photos Extensions and sure enough a few things came up.  I searched for Photos Filters and much to my surprise a Free app displayed.  I figured I would install it just to use it as a guinea pig for the Photos extensions.  Much to my surprise, it worked!

Now my Flickr Photo-a-Day pic is a Photo Booth snap, edited in Photos, using a third party filter app.  It’s just a day of firsts for me!

253/365 - I took this with Photo Booth because... it was there.
