Cats Need to Listen to Me

Bloganuary writing prompt
If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

There are a few potential responses to this one, but if I had to narrow down to just one thing I want my cats to understand it would be this:

Just because you can see the bottom of the food bowl, it doesn’t mean that you are about to starve to death. There’s enough food in there to keep you alive for a while, and I will top off the bowl soon enough. Calm down.

Now having said that, Robin Sparkles has an interesting response to the food bowl getting low. She gets extra super friendly. Where she normally barely acknowledges my existence, when the bowl is even slightly less than full she comes to me practically begging for attention. She rubs up against my feet when I am walking by, she head butts me when I am sitting down, she meows at me, the whole works. All the things that cats do to remind you that they are there and to trick you into thinking that they love you. All of it. It’s not enough to make me purposefully let their food get low… but it’s a close call sometimes.

A couple of honorable mentions include the following:

Yes, cats. I am aware of the state of your litter box. I am always aware of the state of your litter box. Relax.

No, cats. You are not allowed in the cellar. Not since Lilly tried to claw her way through the central air duct or when she tried to climb over the top of the ceiling to get behind the wall board where she would get stuck and I would never, ever be able to find her or rescue her. Get out of the damn cellar, both of you.

This last one is going to come up tomorrow, and then again on Thursday. Yes, cats. We have to put you into the cat carrier in order to take you to the vet. It is not punishment or torture and I am not some kind of nazi death camp guard. Stop making me feel like one. It will all be over soon enough. Just be patient and accept my apology. Good kitty.

Officially On a Streak

When I finished playing guitar yesterday morning I had run out of tracks that needed to be recorded. Last night I started another re-recording song so that I could have something to work on today. Now here we are again with nothing ready to work on because for the third day in a row I played guitar!

I now have six quarantine tunes ready for vocals. That’s what I call a backlog. It’s going to take me a while to get through all of that. I have one more song on my list for this round of re-recordings. I had two but I decided to drop one of them. If I can prep that one with bass and drum MIDI tracks today then I’ll have something to do tomorrow morning. Then we start doing car music on Tuesday? We’ll see how it shakes out.

More Playing

I played guitar again this morning! Two days in a row!

I put rhythm guitars on a Quarantine tune, and lead guitar on another song. It was my first recorded lead on the new frets and the first recorded lead in months, meaning I have no calluses, meaning ouch town, population: me.

In other guitar playing news, the new pick journey officially began today as well.

I started with a Dunlop grippy model and amazingly dropped it within seconds of starting to play. WhatWhatWhat??

Pre-Work Day Guitar Playing

I recorded some guitar tracks today! WOOHOO!

I put rhythm guitars on one Quarantine Tunes vol. Seven song. Lots of chunky wah-wah groove. Awesome. Here’s hoping I get to make some time to play a lot this weekend. I have a lot of stuff ready for car vocals too.

Get to work, Robert!

Morning Cats

Here are pics of the cats that I took before I went out to run an errand before I punched in to work this morning.

Enjoy!

I didn’t use Hipstamatic for a change. Isn’t that a nice change of pace? I did use a square crop and an Apple iPhone filter, but no Hipstamatic. What fun!

Commute Fun

After a few inches of snow followed by a layer of ice last night, the commute this morning is going to be rough. Hopefully most of Massachusetts will just stay home and I’ll have routes 93 and 128 to myself.

Not likely.

I’m running a bit late this morning but I did manage to sneak in a picture for the photo a day thing. Granted it’s basically the same as the last two days. What’s a red head to do?

Guess What I Did Not Do

Want to take a guess as to what I did not do this morning before work? Also, what I didn’t do at all over the weekend or during last week?

Go on and take a guess. I bet you’ll never get it right. I won’t be able to do anything about it for the next two days either, but I bet you still can’t guess.

It’s a super secret. No one will ever know.

(insert frustrated sigh of failure to play any guitar or work on any music projects or ideas here)

Cats

Your daily dose of cats.

Robin watched Deep Space Nine with me and she seemed to enjoy it even though it was one of those stupid section 31 episodes. Puh-leeeeze.

A short time later the cats rough housed a little, as they often do. No hissing this time and that is nice of them.

And there you go, folks. Your daily dose of cats.

Photo a Day Catch Up

While I was getting my ass kicked via my stomach yesterday I wasn’t thinking about taking pictures at all. Then there was this magic moment. I was in my step son’s room on the day bed we put in there after he took his bed with him to his apartment in Vermont. It was one of only two places where I could lie down and somehow get some relief from the stomach pain. It only worked if I was laying on my side, and it only worked if I was on the couch in the living room or the day bed. Well, the floor in the living room worked for a while too, but I didn’t want to go back there.

Jen was in the living room watching TV and I was in a cycle of sleeping for a half hour or so, then waking up because I was uncomfortable, then rolling over onto my other side, then sleeping for another half hour. I want to say it was sometime after 8:00pm but I am not sure. As I was entering the wake up and roll over stage it occurred to me that my photo a day challenge was in jeopardy. I had my phone with me but I didn’t have the energy to think of something to snap. That’s when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Robin Sparkles was in the room with me.

BAM! The Photo a Day Challenge survived! Then this afternoon I chased it with this one, again with thanks to Miss Robin Sparkles.

And the Photo a Day Challenge survives through another day. Maybe tomorrow I will come up with a different subject. Like, the other cat. Get ready, Lily Pad!

Make Music

I have barely done anything musical in the past week. I told myself I was going to work on Quarantine Tunes Volume 7 this month, and I have done some work. I just haven’t done enough.

I have one song ready to mix, but it’s been ready to mix for about a year. I have one song ready for lead guitars but, again, it’s been ready for about a year. I have three songs ready for vocals and I have been trying to get myself into a place where I can record them (meaning in the car in an empty parking lot at the crack of dawn) but I’ve failed to get it done all week. Tomorrow, maybe? I also have two songs ready for rhythm guitars but I just haven’t been able to make the time to record the tracks. I will, I just need to get myself motivated.

Motivation! Why do you vex me so? Get your ass in gear, Robert! Do something! Play the effin’ guitar, you bozo! Make some music!
