Nutritionist Day

I have an appointment with the Nutritionist today. Not exactly sure what we’re going to talk about. Can I eat green veggies at will now? Can I eat bread yet? Should I change up my meal planning? Are there any more restrictions to think about? How’s my exercise routine working out? Should I start counting calories? All sorts of things like that.

I am working a half day. If the appointment ends early I might have some time for errands. I need to pick up a small order at the store I call Tall and Fat, I need to drop off a bag full of clothes for donation, I need to stop at the post office, stuff like that.

(Pause while I remove a small spider from the ecosystem)

I still have to put together the weight bench we bought a couple of weeks ago, along with a box of free weights. I’ve never been into lifting weights before so I am not sure what I should do with all of this stuff. Youtube will probably help me out.

Last night we watched the first episode of Stranger Things 4. I got some real Evil Dead 2 vibes and I am all for it. We also saw Thor: Love and Thunder in our first trip to a movie theater since the pandemic started. There were only four or five groups in the theater and we were all spread out. The only health issue we had was with Harry’s insulin pump, but that worked out fine and wasn’t really a problem.

The movie was good. It wasn’t as good as Thor: Ragnarok, but it was good. The laughs were genuine, the action was cool. My only beef was that it moved too fast. They cut it down to two hours, but it felt like another 30-40 minutes would have improved the story.

Okay then. Wish me luck on the Nutritionist appointment. Fingers crossed for low-fat Ritz crackers and quinoa, though not at the same time.

Movie Night

I have half an hour left in the work day. After that we will get some DoorDash (or something similar) Dinner. I ordered steak tips and broccoli. After that…

Movie night.

Thor: Love and Thunder.

My first trip into a movie theater since the Dawn of the Pandemic. I will be masked. I will be nervous. I will also be confident that I will be safe. I’ve had four vaccine shots. Let’s put ’em to work.

We are hoping that a Wednesday night movie will mean a mostly empty theater. We’re also going to the new cinema in Salem, NH. Harry’s been there once and said the theater seats are comfy. Nice. I will not be getting any food, but I will probably get a bottle of water, if I can.

Here’s hoping the movie lives up to my very high expectations. I’m sure it will.

When Harry came home from school he was super interested in breaking down the latest Marvel movie so we went ahead and watched it. It wasn’t as good as No Way Home, but it was better than the other two phase four-ish movies. I liked it a lot.

So that is it. All of the Marvel movies that were available for viewing have been viewed. Bam. So I guess we’ll return to this topic in a few months when the next Thor comes out.

All Done

Seeing as I’m stuck at home recovering from surgery, and Jen is working, was there any doubt that today would be a serious Marvel Movie Day? Of course it is.

    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

When Doctor Strange 2 comes to Disney+ (on July 8th?) I’ll add an addendum, but for now the Marvel Chronological Rewatch is done. Finished. In the can, as the saying goes.

Shang-Chi was better on the second viewing. It’s almost like they knew everyone would still be bummed out over Infinity War so they made a movie that was just ass kicking, balls to the wall action scenes all the way through. Sure it takes a breath here and there, but really it’s just constant action and I loved it.

No Way Home… Let’s just say that Doctor Strange 2 needs to be friggin’ amazing of it’s just going to look silly following No Way Home. Great. Freaking. Movie.

And that, ladies and germs, is the end of my rewatch.

Now what?

I watched WandaVision all the way through not too long ago. I’m thinking of doing the Disney+ shows starting with Falcon and Winter Soldier but sticking WandaVision at the end so that I can say I rewatched ’em all, without rewatching something I just watched. Maybe. Maybe I’ll just rewatch DareDevil and Jessica Jones and Luke Cage and The Defenders now that they are all on Disney+ too. Oh, and yes I did leave one out. Yeah. On purpose. Sorry, Mr Knight of Flowers guy.

Still Going

Hey, I bet you all thought I forgot about this. Not when I’m so close to finishing!

Here is The Great 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe Chronological Rewatch of 2022 Update:

  • Phase One-ish
    • Captain America: The First Avenger
    • Captain Marvel
    • Iron Man
    • The Incredible Hulk
    • Iron Man 2
    • Thor
    • Marvel’s The Avengers
  • Phase Two-ish
    • Iron Man 3
    • Thor: The Dark World
    • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    • Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
    • Avengers: Age of Ultron
    • Ant-Man
  • Phase Three-ish

    • Black Widow
    • Spider-Man: Homecoming
    • Black Panther
    • Doctor Strange
    • Thor: Ragnarok
    • Ant-Man and the Wasp
    • Avengers: Infinity War
    • Avengers: Endgame
    • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Phase four-ish
    • Eternals
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

It took me four sittings to get through Eternals. I don’t think it’s a bad movie, I just can’t really get invested in any of it. I just didn’t care. I wonder if they ever make an Eternals 2 (which the ending of the movie strongly suggests), would that make this movie more interesting? I can’t even guess. I just feel odd seeing Robb Stark and Jon Snow. The last time I saw them, Jon ended up on Robb’s throne. This time, Jon ends up with Robb’s girl. It’s just weird.

Up next is Shang-Chi. I enjoyed this one a lot the first time I watched it. This time, I can’t help but fear that I am going to see it as just standing in the way of No Way Home. I’m sure it will be fine. I’ll probably start watching it after I heat up a bowl of chicken broth. Mmm mmm good!

Oh yeah, I technically need to add Doctor Strange 2 to the end of the list as it’s out in theaters now. I am not going to include it on this rewatch though as there is no way in hell I am going to a theater. I thought about buying a ticket and then pirating it, but I think this time around I want to be a good boy. Surgical karma and shit, you know?

On to Phase Four-ish

I had a lot of time yesterday where I was sitting in one place chopping up cardboard into throw-away sized chunks. I also put together a few IKEA thingies which will be hung today. The side effect of that is my being able to do it all in front of the TV with Marvel movies playing. I already posted about finishing one movie, but here I am posting about two more!

I’m done with Phrase Three-ish! Bring on Phase Four-ish!

Here is The Great 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe Chronological Rewatch of 2022 Update:

  • Phase One-ish
    • Captain America: The First Avenger
    • Captain Marvel
    • Iron Man
    • The Incredible Hulk
    • Iron Man 2
    • Thor
    • Marvel’s The Avengers
  • Phase Two-ish
    • Iron Man 3
    • Thor: The Dark World
    • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    • Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
    • Avengers: Age of Ultron
    • Ant-Man
  • Phase Three-ish
    • Captain America: Civil War
    • Black Widow
    • Spider-Man: Homecoming
    • Black Panther
    • Doctor Strange
    • Thor: Ragnarok
    • Ant-Man and the Wasp
    • Avengers: Infinity War
    • Avengers: Endgame
    • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Phase four-ish
    • Eternals
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

The question I posed to myself yesterday still remains unanswered. Which is better, Infinity War or Endgame. After having watched both (mostly) in one day, I really can’t say. I’m still leaning toward Infinity War because of the colossal bummer aspect but it could go either way. In fact, I sort of don’t see them as two movies at all. I see them as one six hour-ish monster sized movie.

Far From Home is interesting in that it gives a glimpse into a major theme of the Disney+ series. Grief. Infinity War destroyed everyone’s life to varying extents. I never really expected Marvel to spend so much time exploring the fall out of that. Far From Home deals with everyone, especially Peter, dealing with Tony’s death. I did not see that coming, but it was pretty wonderful that it did. It brought these dumb comic book movies to a whole new level. WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye (and I guess to a lesser extent Loki) all centered on similar themes and it was just fantastic to watch.

Up next is Eternals. It’s good. It’s not great. In terms of the MCU, we knew there had to be a lesser movie coming someday. This gets it out of the way. It’s an okay movie, it’s just not good enough. Also, seeing Robb Stark and Jon Snow together was weird. It sort of took me out of it. We’ll see if it has the same effect on my second viewing.

Bummer Ending

Here is The Great 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe Chronological Rewatch of 2022 Update:

  • Phase One-ish
    • Captain America: The First Avenger
    • Captain Marvel
    • Iron Man
    • The Incredible Hulk
    • Iron Man 2
    • Thor
    • Marvel’s The Avengers
  • Phase Two-ish
    • Iron Man 3
    • Thor: The Dark World
    • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    • Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
    • Avengers: Age of Ultron
    • Ant-Man
  • Phase Three-ish
    • Captain America: Civil War
    • Black Widow
    • Spider-Man: Homecoming
    • Black Panther
    • Doctor Strange
    • Thor: Ragnarok
    • Ant-Man and the Wasp
    • Avengers: Infinity War
    • Avengers: Endgame
    • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Phase four-ish
    • Eternals
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

Is Infinity* War better than Endgame? I think that’s a question that will stump movie fans for generations to come. I feel the battle at the end of Endgame is better than anything in Infinity War, but the movie as a whole? I think I have to give the nod to Infinity War. Not since Empire Strikes Back has a movie with a bummer ending landed so powerfully. As of this moment in time I think it’s the best Marvel movie. Ask me again after I watch Endgame though.

*I misspell “infinity” almost every time I type it. I throw in an extra “i” for some reason. Inifinity.

Time for the Big Guns

I watched a movie last night while putting together a big pre-fab furniture thing.

Here is The Great 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe Chronological Rewatch of 2022 Update:

  • Phase four-ish
    • Eternals
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

Ant-Man two is a good movie. I enjoyed it, but it’s not a world beater like the Captain America movies, or Ragnarok, or the Spider-Man movies. It’s good. I have no complaints. It’s just… The four movies that came before it were all WOW. The two movies that come after it are all WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! Ant-Man Two is just really good. Weird how that makes it slightly forgettable, you know?

Now that it’s done though, it’s time for the big guns. The heavy shit. Infinity War and Endgame. Something like six hours of ridiculously awesome story. The two-pronged high water mark for Marvel, and really for super hero/comics movies in general. It’s probably going to take me days to get through both of them, unless Jen wants to watch them with me.

Bring ’em on, babie!

Check Off Another One

I wanted to write this earlier but I was busy moving my office space into the cellar.

Ragnarok is the best Marvel movie that doesn’t have Avengers or Captain America in the title. There. I said it. Ridiculously good flick. It took me three sittings to get through it, including having it playing on my iPad in the kitchen as I cooked dinner last night. How obsessed am I? Pretty obsessed.

Next is Ant-Man and the Wasp. I know it’s a good movie, but I honestly can’t remember what it’s about, apart from the end credit scene. Is the whole movie about getting Mrs Pym home, or is that just one sub-plot? I can’t remember. Once I get through that movie though… The Infinity War/Endgame bonanza begins. All of the Marvel movies are good, even when they aren’t that good (looking at you, Eternals), but none of them are even in the same space-time continuum as Infinity War and Endgame.

Let’s get there.

Also… I failed to watch MoonKnight this morning. DON’T SPOIL IT!

Only Nine Left

I had a pretty crummy nights sleep on Sunday. I had a crummier nights sleep last night. Part of it is from having everything thrown off with the contractor staying super late. Part of it is knowing that one week from today I will be on a clear liquids only diet in preparation for having my innards ripped apart and stapled back together. Yeah, that might be it.

Maybe I should distract myself with something so that I don’t freak myself out.

Maybe….

Doctor Strange is done. Check that one off. Interstellar Overdrive blared forth from the soundtrack and all was good. It’s a killer movie, but I have to admit he’s not my favorite character. I am looking forward to the sequel though. It looks pretty good.

Up next is Thor: Ragnarock. The moment when Thor stopped being over blown and pompous and a smidge on the boringish side and started being hilariously funny and really good. This is one of the MCU’s best moments. Also, I’m only two flicks away from Infinity War when the best of the best starts.
