The New iOS Journal App: Post Number Four

I just updated my iPhone 14 to iOS 17.2 and now the clock doesn’t work when the phone is in Night Stand mode.
Oh, good.
It took me about 35 seconds after updating to find a bug. That does not seem like a very good sign to me.
Just in case you were thinking I wasn’t a total Apple fanboy nerd…
Finally! After ages of using Vivaldi as my browser of choice on my laptop, there is an iOS version of Vivaldi that I can use on my iPhone! I just installed it and synced it and now all the stuff I save off on my MacBook Pro should be available on my iPhone. Now I just have to put it onto my iPad. Thanks for the memories, Google Chrome for iOS but your day appears to have come to an end at last!
The lightning connection on my iPhone 14 Pro Max isn’t working. It’s been spotty for a couple of months, but over the last couple of weeks it’s failed completely. I plug a lightning cable into it and nothing happens. Zilch. Nada. Fun that something goes wrong right about the same time I decide to make it my go-to point and shoot camera again. As eight year old Bellana (my 22 year old step daughter) used to say, aw fiddlesticks.
I made a genius bar appointment for this afternoon to have it looked at. I had something similar happen with a headphone jack on an older model iPhone once before. In that instance they were not able to fix it and they gave me a new phone. I hope it doesn’t come to that today. I don’t want a new phone. I don’t want to have to go through the restore process. I did force an iCloud backup today, just to be on the safe side, but I hope I don’t have to use it.
Fitting that this is happening two days before Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone. Will it be called the iPhone 15? Probably but who knows. I am not planning to upgrade this year. I will probably do it next year, but I’m going to give it a miss for now. Part of the reason I hope I don’t have to replace my phone today is because it would suck to get a brand new 14 two days before the 15 is announced. That would be almost like adding insult to injury.
My genius bar appointment is in one hour and 35 minutes. Wish my poor, sick little iPhone 14 Pro Max luck. Poor, sick little monkey.
ADDENDUM: The iPhone lives! It was just some schmutz jammed into the port. The genius bar dude cleaned it out and now it works fine. Life is good!
Week 40? Are you serious? We’re only 12 weeks away from capping off the first year? How is that possible? How does time move so quickly without all of us falling down dizzy all the time?
I weighed myself this morning through a hale* of technological cock ups. Well, one technological cock up. The scale in the bedroom is Bluetooth and connects to my iPhone. It’s nice. The app on my phone calculates my BMI and updates the Health app so I don’t have to do either thing manually. When I got out of bed this morning I tapped my phone to wake it up and nothing… it was off. I tried to turn it on again and nothing… it was dead. I plugged it in and tried again and nothing… it was bricked. The fuck?
I stepped on the scale and started my day without my phone. Eventually Google gave me a tip for tricking it into restarting and it worked. She’s been A-Okay ever since. I haven’t updated the Health app though. I still need to do that, but I have updated my Google Spreadsheet and I have all the numbers I need.
There are numbers, but there aren’t a whole lot too them. I am down this week, but only 0.6 pounds. I will chalk that up to already having a mid-week weigh in on Saturday so it’s not a full week. Also, yesterday was Jen’s birthday and I hit the snacks a lot harder than usual while celebrating. I’m not concerned. 0.6 pounds is a positive step in my book. I’m happy.
On Saturday when I did the nine month weigh in I was at 224.4. Today I am at 223.8. I will take it. Gleefully. The total since the surgery is now 207.6 and the total since the start is 228.2. My BMI went from 27.3 to 27.2. Again, all good stuff. Not world rocking stuff, but good stuff. I am pleased.
The next weigh in will be February 15th. That’s the day after Valentines Day as well as the day after something painful that I haven’t mentioned yet but probably isn’t hard to figure out based on the last couple of weeks worth of posts. That event includes a luncheon but I doubt I will be willing or able to eat anything there. I’m likely going to have a full day of protein supplements instead of actual food on the 14th. We’ll see how the diet shakes out that day.
*Is that the correct usage of “hale”? Should it be “hail”?
ADDENDUM: It just dawned on me… I weigh 223.8 and I have lost 228.2 since 1/19/22. That means I have lost more weight than I actually weigh. Holy shit Snacks! I am literally half the man I used to be! Queue that Stone Temple Pilots song!
I just finished eating 2.8 ounces of scrambled eggs. I feel okay. My stomach is a little funny, but I think that might be due to hunger more than anything else. I only managed about 11 grams of protein and that’s not enough so I will supplement later. We’ll see how that goes.
In honor of going back to soft food/puree stage, for breakfast at least, I also brought out this old friend.
Ah, the stopwatch. I remember you, old friend.
I gots me a new iPhone. Yeah, I know my last post said the next post would be pics from Lowell, but instead it’s going to be me bitching about my new iPhone.
Setting this guy up has been a kick in the balls. I mean, seriously. The whole eSim thing just didn’t want to work. It said to hold your new phone near your old phone and let it do it all for you via bluetooth or NFC or whatever the hell it uses and it didn’t do anything. I was starting to get nervous about having to go back to the store, but then Jen found a bar code we could scan and that took care of it.
Then I tried to load a backup of my 12 Pro Max and it wouldn’t do it without redoing all of the setup. Okay then, we’re starting from scratch with this guy. Bring it on! Now where the hell is that dark mode parameter?
Happy New iPhone 14 Pro Max Day! WOOOHOOO
Note: I’m not mad, I’m just bitchie. I am super happy with my new phone. I’ve already sent the kids texts because that’s what ol’ Robbie does when he gets a new phone, dig?
