Hypocrite Day

Today is Hypocrite Day here in the USA. Veteran’s Day is the day we honor those who served in the military during times of war. It’s also the day where those faux patriotic mother fuckers who just voted to put the fascists into power at the Federal level go out of their way to show you how patriotic they are and how much they support the troops that the president elect called suckers for serving and who sacrificed everything to rid the world of fascists only to hand the country to fascists on a silver fucking platter.

Hence why today will now be known as Hypocrite Day.

Wave those flags and tell us how much you support the troops, you fucking hypocrites. Hooray for you, you fucking hypocrites.

Sexism on TV

Harry has been rewatching The Flash. I rewatched the whole series this fall too. Something popped out at me today that I didn’t connect in previous viewings.

There is a sexist hypocrisy playing out in the first two seasons. Allow me to explain.

In season one, Detective Joe West finds out that his daughter is dating his partner and he is not happy about it. He talks about how worrying about his daughter’s relationship is going to get in the way of his reactions during dangerous situations in the line of duty.

In season two he has a new, female partner. When he finds out that she is dating his son he’s fine with it. No trouble at all.

Hypocrisy: Partner dating daughter = bad. Partner dating son = good.

Think about it, won’t you.

I’m Sorry

Why do so many guitar player accessories have blatantly sexist names? I don’t want to be a part of this particular problem but I’ve gone and made a hypocrite out of myself.

David Gilmour… listen to his Stratocaster sound on Pink Floyd records like Animals and The Wall. What does he use to get that killer tone? I want that killer tone too! How can I get myself one step closer? Well I can start by trying out some of the gear he used. How about his overdrive pedal? Awesome!

Except that it has an embarrassingly sexist name. I won’t share it because it would make me feel like an asshole. Even worse? I bought one on ebay. It’s going to be shipped in a day or so. Maybe I’ll put duct tape over the graphics painted onto the housing. It won’t fool anyone, but at least Mr Hypocrite will be able to pretend.

I feel like a jerk, and not just because I want to steal someone else’s tone.

Drop the Puck

I have such mixed feelings about the end of the NHL lockout. I love hockey so much. I bleed black and gold. I am a Boston Bruins fanatic. I hang on every shift, every play, every pass, every check, every shot, every save, every goal. Damn it, I love this friggin game!

But they hurt me again. The hurt me eight years ago when they cancelled a whole season, yet this time hurts me even more. I guess it’s knowing that I am partly to blame this time. I came back last time and this year I paid for my lack of vision.

I believe in my heart that three lockouts under the current commissioner proves that the league is fundamentally broken and must be allowed to fail. Then a new league, one that cares about its customers and does not take them for granted or use them as bargaining chips, can rise from the ashes of the old.

But damn it if I don’t love my Bruins and damn me for wanting to see them play this year.
