Mouse Hunt

We are proud of our two cats. They have protected their house from an invader. A little, tiny, furry, squeaky invader.

They caught a mouse.

We saw them hunting when we got up this morning. There was something in a closet that they really wanted to get at. I saw it for a second. A little brown mouse. It was adorable. It was also a bastard of a home invader who needed to be removed. The mouse got away this morning. It did not get away for long.

Jen walked into a room and found it laying in the middle of the floor, seemingly dead. She turned away to get something to cover the body and when she turned back it was gone. A few minutes later she found it seemingly dead on the floor not far away. Was it actually dead this time or was it just playing dead? I scooped it up and took it outside. Pretty sure it was dead. Poor little sucker.

Good job, cats! Lily and Robin protected their home and their family. They are good mouse hunters. We gave them some treats in thanks. Good job, my little furry friends. We’re proud of you.

Laughing

Daily writing prompt
What makes you laugh?

Lots of things make me laugh. Laughing is fun. Laughing makes humans feel good. I once wrote a song called “Laughing” and one of the bands I was in played it for a while. It was written in that dark period in my life after I dropped out of college the first time and if I remember it right it was about how sometimes I was so incredibly depressed that I would laugh at how miserable I was. Yeah… so that’s a bad example… maybe.

The question is, what makes me laugh. Jen makes me laugh. My wife has the sharpest wit and the best sense of humor. Every once in a while she’ll blindside me with something so funny that I just lose my shit. It’s one of the billion or so reasons why I love her so much.

My step kids make me laugh too. They are both adults now and they spend their days doing adulting things so the silliness they excelled at when they were little is a thing of the past. Back then they would slay my sense of humor on a daily basis. The Birdie Dance. Raspberry Pickle. Yeah, we laughed a lot. A lot. These days they are more serious most of the time, the way adults are supposed to be, but they can still cause me to erupt into a belly laugh that shakes the universe. They are awesome like that.

There are other things that make me laugh. Things that are funny often make me laugh. Things that are not funny don’t. It’s crazy how that works out, right? Funny stories are funny. Funny movies are funny. I quoted Dodgeball last night. I had an itch on my arm and I scratched it and my razor sharp fingernail cut me a little and I had to unironically proclaim that “nobody makes me bleed my own blood!” I guess I even make myself laugh… you easily self manipulated dumb ass.

Funny is just funny, you know?

Hey https://gencraft.com/generate, generate an image of a jedi knight laughing…

That is one creepy ass a.i. generated image of one creepy ass yoda-sith. I am going to see this in my nightmares forever.

Random Thursday Thoughts

The first random thought on this fine Thursday afternoon is that it actually is Thursday and not Friday or Saturday. I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago that my inner calendar/clock is a mess this week and I am not quite sure why, but I was convinced all day Tuesday that it was Thursday, and then I was also convinced all day Wednesday that it was Thursday. Now that it actually is Thursday I can’t decide if my brain is convinced that it is Friday or Saturday, which doesn’t make sense because I don’t work on Saturdays but I’ve been working all day today and still at times I’ve felt like it was Saturday.

My brain is broken. Here’s a cat to make it feel better…

Most work days fine me playing podcasts through the Apple HomePod that’s next to my desk in the new office space in my step son’s room. The last couple of days have been different. I’ve been listening to music. Today has been a playlist made up of all of Peter Gabriel’s original, non-soundtrack, non-cover/tribute records both as a solo artist and with Genesis. I made this playlist a few days ago with the idea being I would shuffle it. Today I started from the first track of his first solo record and let it run. The transition from his second record to his third is utterly stunning. The first two records are good. Not great, but good. The third… it’s weirder, it’s a totally different sound/approach/feel, and it is so infinitely better than what he did in the few years before it that it made my head spin a little. I just started album number five… So… I think it’s safe to say it is the masterpiece of his solo career and again the improvement is dazzling.

Here’s a cat to help you appreciate Peter Gabriel the freakin’ legend…

It is January 25th today. It is 50 degrees outside. I actually went outside without a jacket on this morning. Granted, my shoes sank into the mud field that once was my yard, but other than that it was nice. This time of year the air can actually be painful if you go outside for a couple of quick minutes and are not bundled up. Today did not hurt at all.

Okay, that will do for random thoughts as my lunch break ends. I have some paperwork to finish up today and then I am making hamburgers for dinner. My wife made that request last night and I am more than happy to oblige.

Happy Thursday afternoon, everyone… assuming it actually is Thursday. Who knows, right?

Marvel Zombies

So tonight’s episode of What If is the zombie episode.

No spoilers. I promise.

However, if you are like everyone in my family other than me and you find zombies too disturbing to watch, you might want to give it a miss. At the same time though, there is a lot of humor in the episode, so if you love the funny and think you can handle the scary, give it a try.

Okay. That’s all I am going to say about that.

Oh, and I think I just read that Star Wars Visions (the anime anthology series) premiers on September 22nd. So we have that going for us, assuming I didn’t misspell anime.
