Happy first day of The Great Window Replacement Project of ‘23!
Also, happy Patriots Day and first day of the NHL playoffs (go Bruins!) but mostly the new windows thing.
Happy first day of The Great Window Replacement Project of ‘23!
Also, happy Patriots Day and first day of the NHL playoffs (go Bruins!) but mostly the new windows thing.
All of the rooms that are getting replacement windows have been cleaned out. All of the blinds and shades and curtains have been taken down and all of the furniture has been moved out of the way.
The next step will be to lock the cats in Bellana’s room, but we won’t tell them that quite yet.
The project for today is to move furniture away from windows. It is not to actually redecorate anything.
I moved the bed away from the window over to the opposite side of the room and thought to myself… hmmm.
Then Jen came in to see what I was up to and saw the bed on the opposite side of the room and thought… hmmm.
Did I just, totally by accident, redecorate the bedroom?
I think I might have. We’ll have to wait for the windows to be finished before I know for sure but… hmmm.
The window replacement team is coming tomorrow. Today is the last day to get the house ready for them. Can I get it all done?
You bet your sweet ass I can.
The kitchen, dining room, and living room are all set. The entire exterior of the house is all set too. Today I’ll handle the bathroom, the bedroom, and Jen’s office. Beyond that, all I need to do is go to the pet store and pick up a huge bag of cat food, and maybe go somewhere to replace Jen’s coffee maker. Before I do anything I’ll need to finish breakfast (one serving of Brown and Serve frozen sausages. Yummy. Also, I need to finish watching the final episode of Star Wars Rebels. 19 minutes to go. I am a little embarrassed by how quickly I burned through this four season rewatch. Like… it’s alarming how nerdy I am.
One small change to the music project plan that I hope to work on over the next couple of days. I was going to use my Keeley Super Phat Mod overdrive pedal (which is a clone of a modified Boss Blues Driver) but I was just looking at the little pile of gear next to my desk and I saw my Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini pedal sitting there and I decided to use that puppy instead. I think I am going to use the Gibson SG for all of this too. SG->Tube Screamer->Vox MV50. That’s a signal chain that’s made up of all things that aren’t usual go to’s. Next month will be Les Paul->King of Tone->Deluxe Reverb and that signal chain could be worthy of gigs. We’ll see.
Right. The Rebels finale has reached the Deus Ex Machina moment. I know I’ve watched this before but I have zero memory of it. Weird. It’s almost time to get to work. The bedroom and the office are going to suck, but I’ll get it done.
Windows tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to all of this being finished.
If you’ve ever wondered what my house would look like without shutters, here you go…
Our window replacement project is scheduled to begin on Monday. This weekend will see us doing all of the prep work. The short length of the neurosurgeon appointment today allowed me to get a minor jump start. The shutters are down, most of them broke in the process, and the Christmas lights are down too. I still have a couple of things to do outside, but the big project is going to be clearing the space around the windows inside.
I spoke to the contractor who is fixing the bathroom in our primary bedroom suite. He said the plan for today is to paint in the morning and start putting things back together again in the afternoon. Sounds like the end might be in sight. Probably another day, maybe two? It’s going to be nice to have two bathrooms again. We haven’t been a two bathroom house for too terribly long, but boy did I get super spoiled, super fast.
Fingers crossed.
I just walked into the bathroom to go to the bathroom, forgetting there is currently no bathroom in the bathroom.
The walk in shower is dead. Long live the closet or whatever is going in it’s place.
Unintentional selfie. Ooops.
There is a sink in our bedroom.
Is this the cause of all of the trouble? Probably.
We thought we were going to have to clean out the closet in the bathroom that’s being gutted today. We don’t. What a freakin’ relief. We have so much stuff in that closet that the idea of cleaning it out was giving me hives.
I don’t have a picture of the progress yet, but ever since we took the drop ceiling out of the basement back in April I can see the hot and cold water lines that run into that bathroom while I’m sitting at my desk at work… so… that’s something, right?
…and the after pic.
Two new shelves and the spice rack thingie has been raised up a bit to better line things up. I only severely damaged the wall in a couple of places but the shelf brackets cover the craters. Nice, huh?
