Late

I had a million things to do before work this morning, then a million things to do during work, then a million things to do after work… so obviously I was going to oversleep, right?

Frustrated sigh.

Oh well. The big question for Friday mornings these days is do I watch the new episode of Severance while I do my morning exercise, or do I watch the new episode of Yellowjackets. Today I went with Yellowjackets. No spoilers for season three episode five, but if there is one thing that show needs (a lot) more of, it is PJ Harvey music. I started watching Severance (season two episode eight, I think) but I haven’t the faintest clue what’s going on. I’ll finish it before I sleep tonight. Promise.

We had a contractor at the house yesterday. We have another one coming this morning, any minute now, and we have another one coming this afternoon. Things are getting weird around here.

What else was I going to mention this morning? Oh yeah, I woke up at about 4:00am this morning. I think it was the wind that woke me. It was blowing around like a hurricane out there. It was bad enough that it knocked over the bird feeder. I have to fix it, but the ground is still frozen so it might have to wait a little while. It’s March so the thaw out is coming, but it’s not coming soon enough for me.

Today is also the NHL trade deadline. I expect it’s going to be a sad day for Boston Bruins fans as we’re far enough out of the playoff picture that we will be sellers. Here’s hoping for a lot of high draft picks while also hoping that none of my favorite Bruins get dealt away. Fingers crossed.

Apple Music just let me know that there’s a new Bob Mould album released today. I’ll give that a listen while stressing about everything under the sun. Sounds good to me.

The first contractor has arrived. I’d best let him in…………

Four Nations Face Off

Are any NHL hockey fans psyched up for the Four Nations Face Off? The first game is tonight. Canada and Sweden are going to start in about 10 minutes. USA and Finland play tomorrow.

Do I care?

Usually I get pretty hyped up for this sort of international challenge. When NHL players are in the Olympics it is THE BEST HOCKEY EVER. Now? Today? With the United States crumbling into a fascist cesspool? It’s really hard to get up for an international hockey tournament when you are completely fucking ashamed of your country.

If there were a Massachusetts team, or a New England team, instead of a US team I might be excited. Otherwise I wish the US weren’t involved. If it were Canada, Sweden, Finland, and someone else (not Russia either) then I would be more excited. As it is? I just don’t care.

It is Going to Be a Long Day

It is about 7:30am. My work day starts at 9:00am. My vacation kicks off 8.5 hours later at 5:30pm.

It is going to be a long day. A really… really… long… day.

After that? I have to pack. I have to make a stash of protein bars to get me through the first couple of days in Florida. I have to figure out the camera situation… charge up the Z5 and put on the 40mm lens, fill up a bag with rolls of film, load a roll into Dad’s Pentax K1000. I’ve decided that Dad’s camera is coming with me this time. Normally I would take my Nikon FG-20, but this time I think I want to take the camera that hurled me down the film rabbit hole a few years ago. Yeah. I am weird.

Anyway. Yesterday I bitched about how the Bruins suck now. Last night they beat Ottawa and jumped three places in the standings. Not only are they back in a playoff spot, but they above the wild card spots and back into third in the division. What a world, huh? We’ll see how long this lasts. The standings are pretty tight these days.

Okay. Time to get the ball rolling on this Friday. Vacation is less than 10 hours away.

We Suck

Have you ever noticed how sports fans refer to their favorite teams differently depending on how well the team is playing? When the team is good they say things like, “we’re good” or “we won” but when the team is utter shit garbage it’s more like, “they lost” or “they suck donkey balls” or things like that?

I find that to be an incorrect language policy. In that spirit allow me to say this about the Boston Bruins, my favorite hockey team: We fucking suck. We dropped out of a playoff spot this week and now after getting trounced by New Jersey last night we have dropped even further out.

Given the state of the world right now I really could have used a long and decisive Bruins winning streak. Nope. Not this year.

Good News

Good news tonight. The world may be looking pretty bleak across the board, but the Boston Bruins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 tonight.

Also, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew ended and it was excellent! (No spoilers though)

Also, the cats watched Friends again and it’s crazy how they can’t look away.

Good news all over the place! WOOHOO!

Happy Thoughts

On a day where I have been in a shitty the-world-is-about-to-end mood, how about a touch of good news?

My Boston Bruins had lost six games in a row before squeaking out an overtime win on Saturday. Tonight (and this is the good news) they are kicking the crap out of the Tampa Bay Lightning and it is glorious. Well… it’s not really that glorious, it’s just that after losing six in a row having a nice lead over anyone is pretty cool. It’s 4-1 with five minutes left in the second. There is still plenty of time for the Bruins to blow it. For now though, let’s enjoy the lead.

Look at me doing all that looking on the bright side shit and stuff.

Random Saturday Cats

The Boston Bruins just snapped a six game losing streak by snatching victory from the jaws of defeat with 1.2 seconds left in overtime. Sigh of relief.

Let’s celebrate the win with some random pictures of cats taken at various points across this fine snowy Saturday.

Better Results (So Far)

Last night in Columbus, the Columbus Blue Jackets kicked the shit out of my Boston Bruins. It was ugly.

Tonight the two teams have a rematch in Boston. At the start of the third period, the Bruins are up 3-0.

Doesn’t that feel better? Isn’t it more fun to be in the lead?

What do you say we hang on to this lead, Bruins? M.kay?

Crud

The Bruins and Blue Jackets were tied at one a piece after one period. It’s the first game back after the holiday break. Finally, hockey returns.

I missed the start of the second period because I was helping my wife with something in her office. When I got back to the game it was 3-1 Blue Jackets. Crud.

Three seconds after I first checked the score Columbus scored again to make it 4-1. Double crud!

Hockey Fan Stuff

I got a couple of Boston Bruins coasters for xmas. They are glass and look like hockey pucks and they are seriously cool.

The first thing I put on the new coaster? Why it was a Boston Bruins water bottle filled with grape juice, of course.
