Spam Filter Fails

Want to know something that would make me really happy?

It would make me really happy if the damn spam filter in Gmail would actually do it’s damn job.

I can’t tell you how many junk emails I get over the course of a day that I have already, on multiple occasions, marked as spam. I know I’ve already marked the from addresses as spam because when I send the new emails to the spam folder I don’t get prompted with the unsubscribe option the way you do when you send something to spam the first time.

It’s not the end of the world or anything, but it does get on my nerves. It is something small and annoying that really pisses me off when it happens.

Come on Gmail. I’ve been a user since 2005 for crying out loud. Do your damn job.

One Week to Go

So the Senate contributed to the end of our democracy yesterday through sheer political hypocrisy. Seven days until we vote a bunch of them out.

Seven days until we remove the fascist from the white house. One week to go.

Seven days until I stop getting avalanched with spam email from Democratic candidate campaigns, all asking me for money. I’ve had 27 of them today, not counting the ones that actually went straight to my spam folder. A month ago I decided I wouldn’t mark any of these as spam until after the election. I’ve held to that out of some misguided superstition… but I really, really wish I hadn’t made that decision. Give me a break!

Replacing Native Apps

Yesterday I made a mobile app decision. Henceforth I will no longer be using the native email app on my iPhone or iPad. I have replaced it in the dock with the Gmail app. I did the same thing with Chrome and Safari a while ago.

Since making the change last night I have not received a single email. Not one. Not even spammy crap.

I’m not sure, but I think I broke the Internet. Sorry ’bout that.

Two Quick Items of Note

Two quick things to note in the 10 minutes before my work day officially starts.

First, I logged in and opened up my work email and was shocked. There were zero new messages. None. Not a single one. Three months ago that would be a good thing. Today? It feels like a bad, bad omen. Duck and cover, kiddos!

Second, I just got a notification from wordpress.com wishing me a happy anniversary. I opened up this account one year ago today. I’d tell you how many posts I’ve made in that time, like I used to do with blogger, but that would require me to do math. Maybe later.
