A little more floor and a ton of baseboard! Cellar progress.

A little more floor and a ton of baseboard! Cellar progress.

It sounds like our heroic contractor guy is going to get held up at his other job again today. Something about a roof or something. First he sent Jen a text saying he’d be there around 4:00pm. Then he sent another saying he’d let her know when he figured it out, or something. I got that second hand. I could be telephone gaming the hell out of this. Jen might have said something completely different and my tiny brain just misread it all. Who knows.
He told us he needs a few hours to finish the floor, and then a few more to finish the baseboard trim and all the little fiddley bits. As of Monday we were thinking he might be finished with everything by Thursday. On Tuesday he was only over the house for an hour. Wednesday he was at the other job until super late (again, roof?). There was still a shot that he’d finish it all by Friday. Now, maybe not.
But we’re so close! We are Sooooo Close!
I’m back in the office today. I’m supposed to come once a week, at least. I missed last week due to a 38 hour all nighter that threw off my whole world for a few days. I’m back today though. It’s school vacation week in Massachusetts, which means the commute was a breeze. We didn’t slow down once. If it were always that way I almost wouldn’t mind the 40+ mile drive each way.
We’re a little out of sorts on the home front. Our contractor didn’t show last night. He generally works two jobs each day. In the morning he does his other job, and then in the afternoon he comes and works for us. Yesterday his morning job held him up until after 6:00pm at least. We went a whole day without any progress. This is by no means a complaint, the guy has achieved super hero status in our book so if he has to miss a day that’s perfectly okay. We’re just off our game now as we are so close to being done that waiting an extra day is a bummer. I’d say it’s messing with our feng shui if I actually knew what feng shui meant. You know?
Not to change the subject or anything, but while I have your attention…
Here is The Great 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe Chronological Rewatch of 2022 Update:
I watched Homecoming off and on over the last couple of days. A little here and there. I finished it last night. It’s a great movie. The one thing that stands out on this rewatch is that I forgot how many references there were to Aunt May being physically attractive. I knew there was some of that in Civil War, but I forgot that it comes up 1000 times in homecoming. It was a little annoying. My only other beef is a common one, the Spider-Man suit is too much like an Iron Man suit. I wish it was just… ya know… a suit.
Over all though, those complaints drop the rating down to about a 91 from a 92, or something like that. It’s a great freakin’ movie.
Up next is Black Panther. I was hoping to start it last night but I needed to sleep. I haven’t watched that one in a while. I’m looking forward to it. I’ll start it tonight.
Are you folks up for another somewhat obnoxious post about doctors appointments and irrational fear?
Good, cause here it comes.
This afternoon I have a pre-screening for the surgery, which is two weeks from today. I guess that means I am going to meet with the anesthesiologist and he/she’s going to calculate how much knock out juice it’s going to take to put my gigantic king-kong sized ass out for 90 minutes or so. I’m guessing whatever it is they’ll use, it’s going to take a lot.
The timing is going to be funky. The hospital is 24 minutes away and they had to reschedule the appointment for 30 minutes after I get out of work. I’m going to have to split the second after my sick time kicks off. We’re going to be cutting it close.
After that I think I need to get my haircut because if I don’t I’m going to look like Cousin It come surgery day.
On the cellar front, fingers crossed the floor is wrapped up today. We have some furniture being delivered over the weekend. We don’t need everything to be finished by then, but it would make things easier. If everything works out, I may have an office to work from down there by next week. Just in time to go away for a month.
Am I freaking out? Maybe a little. I would say on a scale from 1-100 my freak out level is about a 33 and slowly but steadily increasing.
Duck and cover, kids.
Not much to report from the cellar today. He fixed the door to the storage room that wouldn’t close over the new floor. That’s the only change I see.
He’s so close to finishing that we can almost taste it. I’m so excited!
I got up early this morning to put the trash out on the street. When I came back inside Jen reminded me that yesterday was a state holiday, Patriots Day, and trash pick up will be tomorrow.
Sonofa…
Did you see those pictures of the cellar floor last night? We’re coming to the end, aren’t we. A few more days to finish the floor and all the baseboards and finishing touches. We have a couple of pieces of furniture coming this weekend. Soon enough we’re going to have us a nice little living room down there.
What else is going on? I have another doctors appointment tomorrow. A pre-screening at the hospital. I don’t know what that means, but it has something to do with anesthesia. Prep work.
Two weeks and one day until surgery. Two weeks after that Harry comes home for the summer. The month of May is going to be a busy one, right?
Look at all of that new floor. All of that glorious new floor.

The downside of having new floors in the cellar is putting stuff on them so we can’t see them any more.

The contractor said it was okay to bring some stuff downstairs, so long as we keep the base of the walls clear.

What’s the downside of all the cellar upgrade fun? Laundry. Our washer and dryer have been disconnected for a couple of weeks now, and it will probably be another week before they are back online.
So what does that mean? That means I took all of our dirty laundry to a laundromat for a wash/dry/fold service. It also means all of the pants that actually fit me are out of the house and I had to dig deep into the closet in hopes of finding a pair of pre-pandemic pants that actually fit.
I was successful… sort of.
I should be able to pick it all up at lunch time. Then things won’t feel quite so… tight. Ya know?
