Minority Opinion

We watch a lot of Marvel movies in our house. I think I’ve seen them all but one (Thor 2… I’ll get to it, don’t worry) and even when they aren’t that good they are still great.

I have to confess something though. Most people will disagree, and it may be shocking to hear but…

I still prefer DC Comics to Marvel.

Always have, always will.

Are the DC Movies great? Not even close. Are they as bad as people say they are? Probably. Do I still enjoy them? Yup. I most definitely do.

I’m a little behind right now. I haven’t seen Birds of Prey or Joker. Even with all the rave reviews and Oscar buzz, I still haven’t seen Joker. I’ll get to it, don’t worry.

Two things happened yesterday that relate to this. First, I was looking through the menus on HBO Max and came to their DC page. Joker is there, and I’ll get to it, but the one that jumped out at me was The Killing Joke. I’d heard it was okay. Like most of the DC movies, nothing special. I actually read that book though so I gave it a look. It was okay. Mark Hamill pretty much IS The Joker. The only real thought I had was that it’s time to bring Bat Girl into the live action movies. I once heard someone suggest Margaret Qualley from The Leftovers and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for the role and from that moment on she’s been it for me. Whatever.

The other thing was I saw a cast photo from Wonder Woman 1984. It comes out in October, but I’m ready. Wonder Woman is hands down the best DCEU film. It’s the only one that holds up in comparison to Marvel. It was fantastic. Is it the best DC movie ever? For my money it’s either that or Dark Knight.

Anyway, looking at all the DC movies listed in the HBO Max menu, and knowing that Wonder Woman 2 is on the way, I decided to binge/prep for it. I started watching Batman vs Superman. I was about an hour into it when I realized that HBO doesn’t have the extended version, so I switched over to Apple. I’ve had to start and stop a bunch of times but once I finish (40 minutes to go) I’ll move on to Wonder Woman, and then to Justice League, and then I’ll be fully prepared for the next movie. I’ll also be prepped for the Snyder Cut of Justice League, even though it’s going to take a long time for them to have that release ready to go. I’m looking forward to that one too.

So yeah. I still like the DC movies. Wanna make something of it, tough guy? I didn’t think so.

More Video from Comic Con

The best part of the San Diego Comic Con, from the point of view of someone multiple thousands of miles away, is that we get all sorts of new movie trailers. Yesterday it was The Walking Dead. Today it’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Sure we all love our Marvel movies and the Avengers are neat and all, but for me when it comes to comic book super heroes, I’m all about the DC babie. Batman? Check. Superman? Check. Wonder Woman? Check. Don’t forget the bad guys, Lex Luthor? Check. It doesn’t come out until March 26, 2016, but they can keep my seat in the theater warm for me.

Now, having said that…

This is not a trailer. It’s a behind the scenes thing that was aired at the Star Wars panel at Comic Con (last night I think? This morning? I don’t know). This is the best thing that could ever maybe happen, short of episode VII coming out early and me being at some unannounced premier.

Watch this and enjoy.
