Every January I get psyched up for the RPM Challenge in February, and for the last two years I’ve actually finished. Every October I get psyched up for National Solo Album Month in November and I lose interest after a day or two.
Why? It’s essentially the same project. Why can’t I keep my focus through both? I don’t know.
This piece of crap is the only thing I’ve ever started during a NaSoAlMo that has ever been finished. Of course it wasn’t finished on time.
/%20I have this vague idea of doing something with all of the rhythm guitar parts being played on my 12-string, but the action is so high on that guitar that playing is painful. I don’t think I would get very far.
I want to do it. Maybe I will. I don’t know. Maybe. We’ll see.
My car has a gauge on the dashboard that is a timer and an odometer. Ever since losing the backroad route to work I have been in the habit of zeroing it as I start a drive to or from work.
This morning the 43ish mile drive took 52 minutes. That’s fantastic. I never get in that fast in morning. It was beautiful.
This evening I did not go home. I went to my parent’s house. That shortens my drive by about 10 miles or so. The drive took two hours. At one point I looked at the gauge and saw that I was exactly one hour into the drive. I had gone nine miles. Do the math, kiddies.
Do I suck at predicting the outcome of playoff series in baseball? You betcha. Do I care? Nope. Why? Because the one series I picked correctly involved the Red Sox winning. Who gives a toss about the rest of the league when the Red Sox win.
I was 1 of 2 in the wild card games. That is not good. I was 1 of 4 in the Divisional series. That flat out sucks.
I picked the Red Sox over the Rays. Thank the baseball gods I was right.
I picked the A’s over the Tiggers. Nope.
I picked the Pirates over the Cardinals. Nope.
I picked the Braves over the Dodgers. Nope.
That puts me at 2 out of 6. I am wrong 2/3 of the time. Again, who cares so long as the Sox keep winning.
Here are my picks for the League Championship Series.
Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers. Obviously I am picking the Red Sox, but that Tiggers pitching staff scares the holy hell out of me. The only possible chance for Boston is that Detroit had to use their two stud starters in games four and five against Oakland, and maybe there is a chance that we won’t have to face at least one of them twice. Slim chance. Really, no chance. Still, I have faith in the Red Sox. I believe in the beards. The Red Sox will rise to the challenge and take the series, although it’s probably going to be in seven supremely painful games.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Los Angeles Dodgers. I hate the Dodgers. At the same time, I keep finding myself forced to back the Cardinals and while they have come through, they have also let me down. Still… I freakin’ hate the Dodgers. I am going to pick the Cards once again in the hopes of getting a rematch of the 2004, 1967, and 1946 World Series. Sure the Red Sox lost two of those three match ups, but they won the most recent one, and winning this year would even up the history. That would be nice, eh?
Here’s to a Boston/St. Louis World Series… again.
I would like to publicly state that anything I do wrong today (and probably tomorrow too) will be blamed on the Turner Broadcasting System.
Last night my home town baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, played a game that started at 8:30pm. Assuming that the average game runs about three hours, in order for me to go to sleep at a decent enough time to get myself at least seven hours of sleep, I would have to stop watching approximately half way through the game.
During the regular season, most East coast teams start their games at either 7:00 or 7:30pm. Both teams in last nights game, and by extension the overwhelming majority of their fans, are on the East coast. Why then was the start time for the game set at 8:30? It’s disgusting enough that the games start so late that no school age child could ever dream of watching the entire game, but no adult who wishes to be productive at work the next day could stay up for the whole thing either.
I’m not even complaining about the four hours the game actually lasted. That isn’t TBS’ fault (although those commercial breaks between innings sure seemed longer than regular season breaks, didn’t they? I should watch with a stop watch next time to see how long they actually are), but it’s also irrelevant. Anyone on the East coast who works a 9-5 job would still be sleep deprived if the game had been three hours long.
It’s all about money though. If they run two games in one day without overlapping them, then they can sell 18 innings worth of ad space instead of having to split 9 innings of ad space between two Turner networks. The actual people who would like to watch the entire game are not even considered in the advertising equation.
I stayed up for the entire game last night. The final out was made at about 12:30am this morning and I can honestly say that as soon as the game ended I was in bed with the lights off, and I was dead asleep before the Red Sox left the field. My alarm clock then went off at 5:00am. TBS could care less.
