Welcome to Flood Season

This is not an April Fools post. I know it’s on the internet, so statistically speaking you wouldn’t be wrong in expecting an April Fools post, but this one is just a normal boring Rob post.

The weather channel reported that there is a flood watch in effect for my neck of the woods. The flood level for The Mighty Spicket River is eight feet. As of this morning the river was at 8.1 feet. One of the spots being watched is the Hampshire Street bridge. I left the house early this morning and paid a visit. I should have brought my real camera but I didn’t. I only had my iPhone.

0.1 feet might not sound like a lot, but it’s enough to spill pretty far over the banks.

Forgiving my stupid shadow, you can see that the water is almost up to the bottom of the bridge. It’s not enough to worry about yet, but it looks like we’re one rain storm away from closing the road.

Here’s the view from the other side of the street.

The area right at my feet is usually dry land.

Again, pardon my stupid shadow. This makes me wish I had my ND filter so I could take some long exposures. Maybe tonight after work?

Most of what you see here is usually dry land.

I parked my car in what I believe is a bus company’s lot. I didn’t even notice that the back end of the lot was under water until just before I left.

One more for the road. Yet another lame attempt at being artsy. Urgh.

So Much for March

I haven’t written or recorded a note since Thursday. Tomorrow is April 1st. We can officially declare RPMarch a failure.

Now what?

Well, I’m going to finish these 10 songs. I’m also going to start another 10 for April. All of this is silliness, but I feel good about life when I engage in this sort of silliness. What can I say? I’m silly.

As with March, April will be a mix of new, old, and unfinished songs. I just don’t know what the old and unfinished songs will be yet. For now I just know I want 10 things.

I will continue to bore all with updates.

Happy Opening Day

There really shouldn’t be a debate about this. Opening day of the Major League Baseball season should be a national holiday in the United States. Sure, the National Football League brings in better television numbers and I believe generates more annual revenue league wide, but we are a nation of baseball people. It may be “America’s Pastime” in name only these days, but it is still America’s Pastime.

The Red Sox begin their World Series title defense against Baltimore today at 3:05. Last season was a miraculous worst-to-first turn around. They had no business winning it all, but somehow they did. This year I feel the same way. They have no business winning it all. I would not be surprised to see them finish third in their division.

Having said that…

REPEAT!
REPEAT!
REPEAT!

Not since 1916 have the Red Sox managed to win two consecutive World Series Championships. This is the year! The two-in-a-row curse will be broken!

(Damn it, did I just use the word, “curse”? Crud)

Go Red Sox

CameraBag for Mac Once Again

Here are a few more examples of me having fun with presets on CameraBag for Mac.

Here is the original.

This filter is called Vignette III.

This one is called Plastic.

This one is called Grain Strong. I didn’t see much difference at first, but it’s there.

This filter is called 1947.

I should note that these are just the presets. I haven’t messed with any of the settings at all, but it looks like you have control over all sorts of stuff.

I should also mention that Flickr has apparently switched us all to their new photo page format. My major beef with the beta (and the reason I didn’t adopt it when it first became available) was that it took away the embed options from the sharing menu. That function is back now so I am happy. However, it needs to remember you last setting the way it used to. I’m already tired of having to switch to the HTML option and picking a size. Oh well. Everything else still looks okay to me. The more image on the screen, the better.
