So Much Stuff – RPM2022

I worked on 13 songs today. Thirteen songs.

  • I put vocals on songs #13-17
  • I wrote the melody and lyrics for songs 18 and 19
  • I mixed songs 2 and 3
  • I put lead guitars on songs 5-7
  • I wrote song #20, including recording rhythm guitars, writing the melody, and writing the lyrics.

That’s significant progress on 13 out of 20 songs. My ears are exhausted, my finger tips are torn up, and my brain has turned to mush.

I now have three songs ready for vocals, so car music in the morning, babie.

Rock on.

Some Progress but Maybe Not Enough – #RPM2022

I did a lot today once the home improvement festivities ended and I could settle into my day off. I wrote the melody and the lyrics for five songs. I was hoping for seven, but I’m happy with five.

I also had one song that was two rhythm guitar tracks over a drum loop. I added bass and a real drum part. I wanted to add one more song but nothing came to me. I also wanted to track some guitar leads and maybe crank out a mix or two. Nope. Didn’t happen.

Definitely doing car music in the morning. I don’t know if I’ll get through all five songs I worked through today, but I’ll do my best.

Six days left after tonight. I’ve got this.

Oh yeah, I also got my hair cut. It’s not a musical win but it’s a win.

Bertha Update

Is Bertha taller?

On January 26th she looked like this (taken with my IPad, trying to use about the same angle each time):

On January 31st she looked like this:

Today, February 22nd, she looks like this:

It does seem a little taller. Our baby is growing. Now let’s sprout a new leaf, kiddo! You can do it! We believe in you!

Kitchen Lights

The two electricians had to run out to pick up a part. I took the opportunity to see what they’ve done so far. We have a light over the kitchen sink again! Oh, it’s been so long! Happy, glorious day!

Looks like the dining room, the mud room, and the front porch (sorry, birds) are all done, I think. The kitchen has one more thing to finish and then I think we’re all set for today.

I’m not going to make it to my meeting, but that’s okay. I told my manager and he was cool with it. He’ll catch me up when I get back.

Now the next question is this: When they are done and all of this is wrapped up… do I go and get a haircut?

Another Early Morning

Another electrician coming in to give an estimate on fixing some dead lights and plugs and stuff. This is the second time we’ve done this and the second time the window of arrival opened at 7:00am. I have a day off today and here I am, up and dressed over an hour before I would on a work day. Yikes!

I might be double booked. Actually triple booked. Did the weight loss clinic reschedule tomorrow’s appointment for today? They might have. There was also a meeting at work that I was thinking about joining, despite today being a vacation day. I don’t know if I will be able to do all of it. We’ll see.

Back to waiting for the electrician to show…….

The Deer Show

I’m trying my hand at working in the office on a Monday. It’s still early, but as of right now I nearly have the building to myself. There are two people in view in front of me but they are as far away as you can get and still be in my line of site. There’s no one in site behind me. The traffic was non-existent too. I zipped in without any problem.

Now having written all of that, it just dawned on me that today is a state holiday. It’s actually the first time in my 17+ years with the company that we don’t have today off. So… maybe my Monday experience is somewhat less than typical. Oh well.

That’s not what I want to write about this time though. I want to write about Deer. Again.

This morning, as I was doing my normal morning routine, I happened to look out the window and see a single deer. She (I assume it’s a she, but I think the males would have all shed their antlers by now so who knows) was in the yard, not the woods, and perfectly framed in the window. She was just hanging out, but then she looked sort of startled. She was looking off into the woods on the left side of the house. She dipped her head and stomped her front hooves. Then she took a single step backwards and did it again. Then another step backward and repeat.

Clearly she was confronting something. I couldn’t see anything in the woods but the angle was really bad so there could have been an AT-AT* out there and I would have missed it. She was clearly worked up and nervous about something. After a few minutes she turned to face the woods and did another startled little jump. There was nothing back there though.

After a few more minutes something did come out of the woods from where she was originally looking. It was 5-6 more deer. They hung out with her for a few minutes and then something spooked them all and they ran off to the right. Two more deer came across from the left at full speed, which is awesome, and then a couple of stragglers wandered in after that. They were in the woods though, so they were taking their sweet time.

And that, my readers and only friends** is the story of the scared deer.

May your Monday be less scary.
