2024 50/90 Challenge Day 90/90

This year’s challenge is now officially over. 90 days in the books. Thanks for coming along on my journey through silliness.

The next internet based musical songwriting/recording challenge kicks off on November 1st. National Solo Album Month. I’m not sure if I am going to play along this year. 50/90 took a lot out of me. We’ll see.

Pete Rose

Yes, I am sad that Pete Rose passed away. He was a legend and he was a great. I first remember him when he played in the 1980 World Series with the Phillies. When I was 11-12 years old I played on a Little League team called the Reds, and Rose earned his legendary status playing for the Cincinnati Reds. All of that. More hits than any player in history. Legend.

He also bet on baseball games. He claims he never threw a game and he only bet on his own team. He was banned from Major League Baseball for life and good riddance. He always came off to me as if he were an insufferable prick and I had no problem with the ban. No Hall of Fame for Charlie Hustle, even though he does hold the MLB record for hits.

Now that he’s passed, and it is sad that he’s passed for sure, the conversation is going to happen again. Should his ban be lifted and should he be allowed into the Hall of Fame.

I say no. As long as Shoeless Joe Jackson remains banned for betting on baseball, specifically as a member of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox team that threw the World Series (against the Cincinnati Reds, of course) then Pete Rose remains banned too. Rose was a brilliant player but by all accounts he wasn’t even close to as good as Jackson (who was a .400 hitter one season). Who knows what Joe could have accomplished if he’d been allowed to play out his full career. There is also very little evidence of him actually participating in rigging games. Hell, he had a great series in 1919 when his co-conspirators were clearly tanking.

If they lift the ban on Joe Jackson then we can talk about lifting the ban on Pete Rose. Before then? I don’t give a shit what anyone says about Rose. If Jackson remains out then Rose remains out. That’s how it needs to be.

I have spoken.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 89/90

This year’s 50 songs in 90 days challenge equates to more like 57 songs in 89 days. I am done. I mixed the last four songs. I didn’t mix them well (just quick and dirty) but they are done and now so am I. I hit all of my goofy little goals.

  • 50 songs
  • 10 songs started and finished within each calendar month
  • More songs than any of my previous 50/90 successes (my record was 52)

And there we have it, folks. My forth successful summer challenge. I guess the next step is to pick around 10 songs that aren’t as awful as the rest and edit, rewrite, and rerecord them into a sort of album-ish project. Maybe that will be my task for day 90. We’ll see.

Monday

It’s Monday and I am not happy about it. I’m in the office today. Boo. I am dealing with a little lingering after effect of Friday’s stomach issues. I will not describe because it’s super TMI stuff and it’s not anything bad. I don’t feel sick, I just feel… uncomfortable. Other than that, everything is okay.

Well… everything is okay except that it is Monday and the weekend is over and that makes me sad. I did get to watch the new Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon show this morning while doing my jogging (pronounced “yogging”) in place this morning. I also spent a few minutes with my little dumbbell set… the way my doctor suggested I should… over a year ago… and I never do. How many times do you need to do something before it becomes a habit? Is it three? Is it three million? Curling that little dumbbell thing, that needs to become a habit.

Anyway, this Walking Dead fanboy/apologist enjoyed the new episode and is looking forward to next week.

I’m not sure where I am going with this post. I’m running a utility at work right now and just watching the numbers flip by on the screen and I’m writing this to fill up space while I wait for the utility to complete. That’s the point of this post. I guess. What was I talking about?

Here’s today’s photo a day thing:

30/365

I don’t know what else to write about now. Maybe I’ll come up with something at lunch. We’ll see.

I wish I was working from home today. Don’t we all?
